Roommate!Simon Riley x student!reader - Unexpected admission
Hello, hello! This one shows the path of Ghost admitting that maybe he low key adopted you. Hope you will enjoy it! (not proofread sorry)
Simon never wanted children. It wasn't the fact that he didn't like them, in fact, most of their shenanigans amused him greatly. Yet, his traumas from childhood and his erratic schedule made him not be open to the idea. The last thing he wanted was to be a deadbeat father just like his before him.
When he met you, a little over twenty, looking for cheap rent so you can go to university, while it wasn't exactly his wish to have a roommate, in Simon's head a weird voice started to whisper all the dangers that could await you. What if a landlord tries to fool you? What if a roommate starts bullying you or worse? 'What if's Ghost never really cared about until now. So he let you stay with him - reluctantly.
Over the months, the lieutenant started to be concerned when he saw the food in the fridge untouched, while cans of energy drinks were filling the trash. Did Simon make you eat while he watched in complete silence? Yes, throwing sharp glances when saying that you can't eat anymore. Each time you went out with friends, the man couldn't sleep until he heard your keys opening the door, stumbling to your room. You would always wake up with a pill and a glass of water on your nightstand, maybe even the trash besides your bed - in case the drinks wanted out. At some point he just started to wait in the living room.
"Can't pay rent if ya're dead in a ditch", is what Ghost would state.
During missions the military man couldn't stop thinking if you were eating or checking the locks before sleeping. Sometimes he finds himself hanging around in the shadows when the younger recruits gossip, knowing you'll love to hear about it. Other times, walking through deserted lands, Simon would find a nice rock and think about your rock and fossil collection.
The task force noticed his new weird behavior, but didn't exactly want to bring it up, knowing he'll just ignore the questions. That didn't stop them from discussing hypotheses about it - maybe new hobbies or boredom were the most relevant ones.
You, on the other hand, loved the dynamic. The paternal role in your life has always been vacant, no dad to offer protection and teach you things - you've done it yourself, getting bits and scraps from other men in your family. It didn't quench the thirst for a father figure, though.
When you met the gruff man, there were no expectations on your part for him, thinking he'll just leave you alone and ignore your existence. However, with every small thing he did, Simon healed parts that bled for so long, you thought they don't bleed anymore.
This fueled your idea to send him a vine right on father's day. Ghost was sitting on his favorite spot on the couch, watching a match, beer in hand. You hear the video play on his phone. Simon turns his head towards where you were sitting in the kitchen.
"'m not yer dad", he deadpans.
That's when denial and doubt started within him.
Until, one night, after a mission that didn't exactly go as planned, the task force decided to go have a drink. The drinks kept pouring, hours kept passing. Everyone was having a great time, playing cards, making jokes. Everything stops when Ghost's phone starts ringing, showing the caller ID - Duckling. Johnny stops in the middle of his story, eyebrows almost touching his mohawk. A voice can be heard on the other side, yelling excitedly about something.
"I PASSED! I GOT THE GRADE I NEEDED!", this is all Simon needs to let out a chuckle.
"G' job, talk when 'm home."
His colleagues looked at the man like he'd grown another head. Even Price looked surprised.
"Dinae kno ya hed a birdie waitin'", Johnny breaks the silence.
Simon throws him a dirty glare.
"'s m' kid, no birdie, Johnny."
The silence was thick with confusion and awe.
"Didn't know y'had a kid, mate", Price says lighting another cigar.
"Not mine. Jus' got 'em one day", Simon shrugs.
"What do you mean 'just got them one day'?", asks Gaz trying to wrap his mind around what was happening.
"Like a stray cat", the lieutenant searched for that term you always used, from that god forsaken app on your phone, but it didn't come to him. "Needed somewhere t' stay, had a free room", he shrugs again. "One day, said 'm their dad."
And that's how both Simon and the task force found out that he, indeed, has a kid.
