Winter On the Way // Wes + Wraith
It was a small victory that he didnât piss the smaller man off, and exhaled a little in relief. Finding that Wraith didnât stick around long after, Wes followed closely behind him.
âIâm not sure, Iâm not familiar with what people use alcohol for other than getting drunk and cleaning medical things.â And, if the elf recalled correctly, whiskey was the worst of the alcohols. He remembered one of his men going on a drunken rampage off the stuff, and didnât remember a single thing the next day.
Wes really, really hoped Wraith wouldnât do the same.
âBusiness kind of busy. I get mail and have to approve of things, see how things are going, and deal with things that need my say.â Wes shrugged, hearing the dull roar of the tavern pour out into the hall. âHow do I look like Iâve done well for myself?â
Rounding the corner to the entrance of tavern, Wes couldnât help but scrunch his nose at the poignant smell of the place.Â
âYou know, I donât recall you ever telling me why you came here.â The elf stated, going to their typical little spot they seemed to haunt. He took his seat, and waited for Wraith to sit. Wes gave him a half-hearted smile. âThen again, Iâve been busy with so much on my mind I might have forgotten, but I remember everything else about that day but that.â
{  â  }  â Oh, for starters youâve got much more keeping      your ass from freezing in this cold, â Wraith answered.  He      was doing about all he could to keep himself warm, and it      still wasnât working.  Heâd just about given up at this rate.
{  â  }  â It looks expensive, was all I thought.  So you must      have been doing well.  But if itâs not something you want to      talk about Iâm sure we can find something else. âÂ
{  â  }  Weston made it clear shortly after that he was more      interested in talking about Wraith, anyway.  The homunculus      usually didnât like to talk too much about himself.  There was      too much to tell, and no one he told would be around to      remember it for that long, so itâd just be easier to stay quiet.
{  â  }  Wes, however, had also shown he was willing to      be some manner of friend, considering their little relationship      so far had been amounting to Wes offering drinks,      companionship, and more, while Wraith had fuck-all to spare.Â
{  â  }  He took his usual seat in their usual spot, smiling a      bit himself.  Something about Wesâ smile warmed Wraith up,      too.  â Itâs probably not the story youâre hoping it is, â he      replied.  â Thereâs a lot of places in the world, and thereâs      nothing wrong with a change of pace.  Thatâs mostly the      long and short of it. â
