this summer, i have been trying to figure something out.

i want to know what’s up with all the bees

and why they are so picky.

i’m not sure when the bees started showing up—

all i know is that there are a whole lot of them lately.

on june 1st, let me tell you,

because i remember this time the clearest.

i was sitting in the sun with my friend (beach day!)

and it was really hot, but it was worth it because there were flowers all around,

so many i wish i had counted them.

and then there were bees,

a whole lot of bees, circling around the grass and the flowers in the grass.

they were buzzing all weird, not like i remember bees sounded when i was a kid

and i would save them from the pool.

and i tried to move away from them,

but that seemed to make them extra angry

and one of them got my friend.

that sting was so ugly i didn’t like to even imagine it!

ever since june 1st, i’ve been seeing those guys everywhere.

june 3rd, june 5th, june 9th and 10th, lots of tuesdays, on sunny days.

so now i’ve been on the watch for them,

cause if i look away, i might look back

and they’ll have stung another one of my friends.

though, and i hate to complain about my own ideas,

but im getting tired of looking for those stupid bugs all the time

and sometimes my friends get mad because i missed a funny joke

while i was making sure the clouds kept the sun covered.

some people tried to help me, but they all suck at finding bees

because they don’t really care that much about it.

lots of people just get that that’s the way bees are,

which i get sometimes,

but some of it just makes no sense!

like, i’ve been asking for a while

why the bees will sting you when they know it’s gonna hurt

and nothings even wrong!

one of the books said,

cause i’ve been reading bee books in july,

it said the bees get you because

one of your pointer fingers

to them looks like a giant.

you would think the bees wouldn’t even be scared of that, though,

because everything is big when you’re a bee!

get used to it!

i just don’t get them,

so i thought if i could figure out where they come from

then the rest would come together—

get to the root of the problem.

i’ve separated time into two categories:

bee-repellent and bee-attractive.

some of the people i talk to are bee-attractive,

so talking to them is super scary

because the bees really like something about them.

i only ever feel sorta calm when im in

a bee-repellent place

anymore.

think about it:

have you ever seen your favorite person

and a bee in the same room?

no! never!

i might ask some more people what to do

about them,

cause all the advice i’ve got sucks.

like, the internet told me:

if i’ve got so many questions about bees,

i ought to ask a beekeeper.

now that is just the last thing

i’d like to do.

plus, those guys see bees all the time,

so it’s not even the same thing.

is it the same thing?

i wonder if, since they have to notice so many things about bees,

they notice when they’re there and when they’re not

in the same way they’ve been bothering me.
