"mmmm, g'mornin' zaynie," you mumble as you rub your eyes.

Your boyfriend is already up, caressing your hair gently as he sits by your side of the bed. You scrunch your eyes and blink slowly, deliberately, and smile as the blorb by your side sharpens to reveal your boyfriend's visage. Your eyes roam shamelessly down his black compression shirt and joggers, a faint sheen of sweat making the fabric slightly see-through - he must've come back from a jog.

"Good morning to you too, darling." Zayne twirls your hair between his fingers, smiling at the sight of you thirsting over him while still half asleep. "Sleep well?"

"Mn," you nod, sitting up before stretching your arms over your head. "Good. How was your jog?"

Seeing that you're awake, Zayne gets up, holding his hand out for you. "Good. I passed through the bakery today. They seem to have a seasonal special. It smelled good as I passed through."

"Sounds good," you hum, following him to the kitchen. "Let's head there this weekend. A nice little date, just the two of us." That makes Zayne smile wider. He squeezes your hand once before letting go, heading to the fridge.

"What are you craving? I'll make it for you." You smile wider as Zayne offers to cook. It's not often that Zayne has time to cook, but when he does, which is whenever he has time before his shift, he whips up some of the most nutritious and heartily delicious meals.

"Pancakes, please? Ooh, and waffles if possible! Honestly either is good, but I'm feeling really hungry."

Zayne nods, happy that your appetite is healthy as always. "Pancakes and waffles it is then. It's good to fuel up in the morning. How does a side of cut fruit sound? With a healthy dosage of whipped cream, of course."

"That sounds lovely," you sigh happily, already drooling at the thought of the lovely promise of a huge breakfast spread. "What about you? Are you craving something else?"

Zayne shakes his head, already measuring ingredients and whipping up the batter. "Honestly, you read my mind. I've been craving pancakes too this morning." He adds an extra half cup of sugar to the batter, making you sigh in fond exasperation at his sugar addiction.

"Although, I am also in the mood for carrot juice, so-"

BANG!

Zayne blinked, gaze darting between you and his abdomen and the still smoking firearm in your hand, clutched tightly. He met your cold eyes, letting out a wounded gasp.

"You... Why-" he choked, coughing up blood as he staggered to his knees, hands cradling the gunshot wound in his torso. He looked down in horror, then back at you. "Why would you-" before he could finish his sentence, black crystals covered his entire body, revealing the wanderer's true form.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Another few shots, and the wanderer was already dissipating into dust, leaving behind a protocore. You scan it. Sapphire. Beta protocore. No significant protofield.

At the exact moment, the real Zayne, just returning from his jog, storms into the kitchen. He looked like he'd just escaped a fight with a wanderer. He takes in the scene in front of him - the fine layer of wanderer dust in your kitchen, the protocore and the gun in your hands, the erratic way your chest rose and fell as you still came down from the adrenaline...

"Oh thank gods, you wouldn't believe what your evil clone said!"

A/n: I'm kinda devastated that this is my first Zayne fic and not the "Zayne loves indian sweets" fic I'd planned for him🥲 but I'm not exactly complaining, especially after this post... I KNEW I had to write this!

I was half asleep and cramped in the middle berth of a train when I wrote the fic, that must be why I missed it. You're right though, you don't trim your roots 😭

Sharing is Caring - Rafayel x reader/MC

Rafayel had always been someone who is used to keeping things to himself. Or so people thought.

But the young artist couldn't quite explain his neeed to share everything that he is with this one special person who'd understand him completely and the accompanying fear of being misunderstood that still keeps him inside his shell.

But that all changed when he met you. His cutest cutie, his sweet darling, his beloved bride whom he'd loved across centuries.

He didn't hold back. He'd text you at the most random hours, waking you up at 3 in the morning just to show you a funny meme that made him laugh. Or you'd get a message marked as "SUPER IMPORTANT, TREAT AS EMERGENCY!!!" and it'll be a picture of two same colours with the artist asking your opinion on which is better ("they're both purple raf" "NO THEY ARE NOT! I'm offended you even say that cutie that electric violet could never hold a candle to freshly prepared tyrian purple-" "THEN WHY ARE YOU THE LITERAL ARTIST ASKING ME THESE YOU KNOW I CANNOT SEE THE SAME COLOURS AS YOU!" "CUTIE HOW COULD YOU NOT HELP ME YOU WANT ME DEAD HUH (⁠ᗒ⁠ᗩ⁠ᗕ⁠)").

Honestly, there was no winning with Rafayel when he gets like this.

But the truth was this - from the most mundane things to the most serious of things, you were the only person privvy to the most intimate of Rafayel's thoughts.

And it didn't stop just there. As your relationship slowly proggressed further, there were a whole lot of things that Rafayel had shared oh-so-casually with you.

It started with small things - tickets to his exhibitions, invites to random outings to the beach or this restaurant that caught his eyes, buying meals. Y'know, normal things that acquaintances or friends do to each other.

Then he started to give you his cards and his car keys, making you question reality. The first time he had casually thrown his keys at you, you were too stunned to catch it. It had hit you square in the chest, and you had only caught it in the end because you were terrified of letting the remote control key of his very luxurious and very expensive car fall to the floor (you still hadn't forgiven him for recording you as you fumbled with the key for two whole minutes, laughing himself to tears at the sight of your panic).

But you knew he was serious about you when you were sketching peacefully in one of the comfy armchairs in Rafayel's place. Thomas had come over to talk to Rafayel about one of his exhibitions, and had almost screamed from terror at the sight of his precious drafting pencil held in between your teeth as you frowned at the sketchbook. You could only gape at Thomas as he recounted how the first and only time he'd dared to use Rafayel's priced tool, he'd been given a look so scary that Thomas had sworn then and there never to touch the genius artist's art supplies.

And now, as you cuddle with your boyfriend on your shared bed and watch him peel oranges carefully before hand feeding you each piece, your heart fills with warmth as you recollect every small interactions over the past weeks.

"You really like sharing, huh?" You ask with a smile as you meet his eyes when he feeds you another slice.

Rafayel's eyes twinkle softly. "You noticed, cutie?"

"Hard not to when we do everything together," you laugh lightly. That got a chuckle out of him before he pulled you closer and nuzzled into your shoulder. There was a comfortable silence between you two, so you didn't really expect Rafayel to break it.

"I've always dreamt of sharing the world's beauty with the one I love, cutie." His voice was so soft, the only reason you were able to hear him was because you were so close. His expression was bittersweet as he looked at the plate of fruit in his lap.

"I… I've always wanted to bring you to Lemuria, y'know, since when we were kids." You felt your heart lurch at the mention of the little pocket of happiness you'd shared together as children, something you had forgotten. Rafayel doesn't give you time to feel guilty though. "Since I knew you were the one, I wanted nothing more than to give you everything. Show you around the acropolis. Swim with you across the seven seas. Even play with the jellyfishes and starfishes that you would find adorable." Your heart hurts with every word. It was a sort of pain that only comes with the realisation of being seen entirely by the person you loved the most.

"And then, my dreams dissolved like sandcastles in the wind." You knew he was referring to the day when humans came for Lemuria and destroyed Whalefall City. He was forced to flee for his life, live amongst humans and build himself back up, brick by brick. Rafayel didn't linger on it too much, however.

"All the riches, all the fame, all of it… it felt empty without having someone by my side to share it. Someone who'd be by my side forever." His way he looked at you was unmistakable. He clearly saw the life of his dreams when he gazed into your eyes.

"Cutie, I'm beyond grateful that you're in my life," he murmured, cupping your face in his hands gently, like he was holding a rare flower. "Every time your eyes brighten when I let you in, you… you make me want to share everything with you."

I haven't read a single instance of Shang Qinghua x Mobei Jun from svsss. I still ship them.

I haven't finished reading TGCF. I still massively enjoy the story.

(Having said that I don't go around posting misinformation knowing that I'm not 100% well versed in the source knowledge either)

Point is I don't need to play love and deepspace to be able to love Rafayel, or Valko, or Caleb or Zayne or Sylus or Xavier.

I still love the story. I still love the LIs and the NPCs. I still love our badass miss hunter.

But I'm not going to sit here and pretend to enjoy a dying game.

This feels like pretending to enjoy the Percy Jackson movies (if you know you know which one🫩) just because they're from the book I loved.

So Love and Deepspace (it sucks I can't tag them here),

Fix. Up. Your. Goddam. Game.

You have a beautiful story to tell. You have so many beautiful characters that add layers to your story. Your Love Interests are so beautifully written and fleshed out. Your goddam "love at first sight" formula fucking worked. You are one of a kind, a pioneer in your field. You are also actively killing your own game. And I'm jumping ships because I may have stayed through the shipwreck, trying to help YOU fix YOUR mess, but I'm not letting myself drown in your stupidity.

So thank you for the game. Thank you for the stories. Thank you for the characters. Thank you for Rafayel. I'll just take him with me (and the other boys).

If the one week I disappeared like a coward had taught me everything, it's that a) my love for Rafayel is stronger than my desire to quit writing, and b) I absolutely do not need the validation of the source material to keep doing what I love - writing.

You asked me if I’ve ever spent days on a train before… Days? You mean to tell me humans willingly trap themselves in a metal box… on land… aaaand call it travel?

I have crossed seas that never end, drifted through currents that could swallow empires whole… and you’re asking if I’ve sat politely in a seat while someone announces ‘next stop’ every few hours?

Though, I suppose there’s something amusing about it. Watching the world crawl past instead of rushing beneath you. Seeing people doze off with their heads knocking together and sharing food like it’s some sacred ritual…

If I did take one of these trains, I imagine I’d cause a bit of trouble, yeah? Lean out the window, let the wind tangle my hair, maybe convince a few passengers the sea is calling them at the next stop…

Buuuut only if you’re there. Otherwise, I’d be terribly bored… 😉 ❤️

I am actually not at all surprised to know that you haven't spent days inside a train. And you're right, you wouldn't like that kinda travel plan either 😅

So to keep things short... There are normal chair car trains, and there are trains with seats that turn into beds for longer travel. We're talking days here. And the beds aren't... fun. Expect legs to poke out of the "bed" and spines to protest from the hardness. Oh. And there's no way to toss and turn either. Yeah, sounds like a nightmare yeah, but hey, it's only for 3 days max! Erm... Hopefully...

But apart from the nightmare aspects, I think you will enjoy it regardless. Like you said, the world does seem to crawl past us at times. And the feeling of the wind against your face as the train hits top speed is sublime. You may also find some inspiration as we traverse across the lands... And not to mention how food tastes so much better when shared together...🫰

And of course, through it all, I'll always be there. Because even nightmarish sleeping arrangements sound like a thing to look forward to when you're by my side. Also I couldn't possibly bear to leave my cutest fishie all bored by himself now, can I?😉
