The Theme Enjoying part of my brain: Jax has abstracted, and she'll never be brought back. And it hurts. It hurts that she never got to accept her transness and become better. It hurts that she died wondering. This was a completely preventable tragedy. She could've been saved if she'd made a single different decision. And that's the point. The point is that this didn't need to happen. If she had acknowledged herself as a person with depth, as a real human being who needs other human beings, as a trans woman, she would've lived. But she didn't. She didn't accept herself, she didn't reach out to others, she kept on performing, and it killed her. At least, in the circus. But the real version of her is out there, with longer hair and a chance to become who she needs to be. It's two diverging paths- one world where she accepts herself and lives, one where she doesn't and she dies. And even in the world where she's abstracted, she's still there, kept in the blanket fort to not overstimulate her, painted on the wall in memory of all who abstracted. She's cared for despite all she's done, because this shouldn't have happened. Her abstraction was completely preventable. She should have gotten to change, and she didn't. And it hurts. But it reflects a real reality of so many people who don't accept themselves and die. It's a beautiful, heartbreaking piece of trans tragedy. And Jax's story is going to help so many people feel seen, and help so many people to not die wondering. I wish her story had a happy ending. I'm glad that this story exists.
