WL3 PART 4 AU DESIGNS!!!!

So if u haven’t heard me yap about this AU before basically the plot is that the wl3.4 group are magical girls that are very popular with the public and are often cheered on by everyone and celebrated when they save the day… at least, that’s what everyone thinks is happening. In actuality, these four actually (unwillingly) work for an evil force who wishes to destroy the order of the world so that they may have control. This evil overlord is exploiting them using psychological manipulation, giving them vivid dreams of losing the ones they love, telling them they aren’t enough for them, that they’ll leave them if they don’t work for this evil force, that the evil force will kill them if they leave. So they continue to do evil works so that when the world is plunged into darkness by their leader, their loved ones can be safe, so that they aren’t alone or left behind. Their boss that they answer to is Kaito. He manipulates them and gives them horrible visions of their closest friends and loved ones leaving them, but Kaito actually hates doing that. His boss is the actual evil force, who created Kaito for this purpose, and if he fails his job he will be erased from existence.

So I decided to make them music themed and a lot of the naming has a purpose and meaning within the story.

Oblique Chord -> “Oblique” refers to “oblique motion” which is when one note of a song stays the same while another moves either up or down the scale, which is meant to represent the fear of the members not being able to move, while those around them, specifically the ones they care about, move on while they stay stagnant. a “chord” is a combination of multiple notes, showing this group has more than one member (like the squad part of vivid bad squad)

Sonata -> A “sonata” is the name of a type of classical music piece written for a solo instrument, from what I’ve read typically piano, that is in multiple movements and typically have 3-4 contrasting parts. I chose this name for Toya for multiple reasons, 1) the classical music and piano ties, 2) the solo aspect connects to the stories theme of fearing being alone, the name somewhat mocking him in that regard, 3) the movements of a sonata can somewhat relate to how he somewhat feared that street music was some sort of phase like his father kept telling him, and that maybe he still secretly fears that it is, that he’ll end up moving on at some point.

Nocturne -> a “nocturne” is a piece of music inspired by the night, however it also used to refer to a piece that was performed at night, typically in later hours. Mizuki got this name because NIGHTchord at 25:00. She has “Give me your Night” as a comm, which is so night time coded. Also the aspect of it being a late night performance is a nod at n25 meeting at 1am. They are also typically very “expressive, lyrical, and gloomy” (Wikipedia) which is also very n25 music coded. Also bonus nocturne can also refer to art inspired by the night as well (mizuena exists in this AU btw)

Aria -> an “aria” is a solo vocal part that is performed either with or without accompaniment from an orchestra or other music. They can be stand alone pieces or part of some bigger work. I chose this as Ruis name because, besides the solo symbolism once again returning, the parts about being performed with/without accompaniment can refer to how Rui continued to put in shows despite having no one to do them with (using robots instead), though while he used to stand alone, he is now part of a bigger group (WxS).

Serenade -> a “serenade” refers to a piece of music (usually romantic or celebratory) typically performed during the evening/early night. There’s less symbolism in this name, mainly the night/evening part connecting to Leo/need and stars and stuff. If you guys have a better name for Saki please lmk, the names are all different types of songs, so if you do want to help find a better name, just keep that in mind :)

Their powers are likely music related. I’m not 100% sure on what exactly they do, but currently I think that fight using instruments (Toya -> violin, Mizuki -> French Horn, Rui -> flute, saki -> piano) and their group attack is singing based. I’m still working out the logistics of how the magic works in this AU and mostly how they transform. I’ll get back to u guys on that
