         i  have  been  thinking  about  the  structure  of  the  death  dealers   &  how  their  roles  might  realistically  function.    at  much  higher  rankings,    especially  at  someone  like  selene's  rank,     you  would  be  expected  to  spend  a  large  amount  of  time  in  active  field  work.    hunting  lycans  is  not  routine,    it  is  extremely  dangerous,     even  for  vampires.    lycans  are,    in  most  situations,    physically stronger while  vampires  rely  more  on  speed,   agility,    &  precision  to  survive  encounters  with  lycans;     you  need  to  be  incredibly  focused  &  calculated.     there  is  also  a  biological  risk.     the  vampire  &  lycan  strains  are  fundamentally  incompatible.   when  they  mix,     they  tend  to  destabilize  the  host  at  a  molecular  level,     which  often  results  in  a  painful  death.    this  makes  combat  especially  dangerous  as  a  single  bite  could  be  fatal  under  normal  circumstances.     while  a  bite  from  either  species  would  turn  a  human,     a  bite  from  either  when  one  of  the  strains  is  existing  already  in  a  host  will  end  in  death.

"    her  tone  was  softer  now,    lower.    "  i  fear  he  will  undo  all  that  we've  worked  for.  "     the  claims  that  kraven  did  such  a  thing.    that  tale.   selene   knew  it.    she  knew  it  well  ---  he  never  let  anyone  forget  it.     but  she  always  questioned  if  he  had  more  help  than  let  on,    or  perhaps  something  wasn't  being  entirely  disclosed.      "  i  beg  you  to  heed  my  warning.  "     please.

Stolen progeny stands before him. Her gaze upon him is nearly as intense as his to hers. Stubborn. Standoffish. Spoiled.

         anger  settled  within  her  core.     desperate,     she  knew  this  decision  wasn't  wise.     of  all  who  could  be  chosen-     selene  did  question  the  elder's  choice  to  grant  so  much  power  to  a  coward.     her  gaze  dropped  as  words  were spoken,    but  then  looked  up  again  with  something  in  her  eyes.    no  anger,    but  a  controlled  frustration.     " my  lord   [ ... ]   i  fear  he  will  disappoint  you.  "    tone  was  low,   careful,    but  insistent  in  what  she  spoke.    "  i  have  seen  craven  where  you  have  not,  "     she  tightened  her  words,    cautious  as  to  not  overstep  too  much.     "  i  trust  your  judgment  above  all  things,     yet  placing  the  coven  in  his  hands  is  a  risk  i  can't  ignore.  "
