1000 Picspams Challenge | #190 - Nephilim
you will not choke the divine from me
lenoreavila¡:
âI donât have a filter, itâs glitchy or was never there at all. Maybe I just lost all my marbles that one time I got a fucking concussion.â It was a normal question, one she had heard since she was young and by now she had a default reply. It was boring to clarify it, but she knew she was intense. âYouâre telling me no oneâs ever said that to you before?â She joked, a short laugh escaping her. âWhat a shame.â
His face clearly showed he was thinking about what she was saying before he finally nodded. He was told a time or two that he needed to work on his socialization skills, but then again he had an excuse. And he supposed not having a filter was hers. âIâve had people proposition me for sex before.â A number of them significantly younger than him. Though he couldnât help he looked closer to his 30s than the 1000 plus years he had under his belt. âThough most either at least knew my name before they did or were prostitutes. And Iâm assuming you fall in neither category.â The small ships of paint on her fingers not escaping his notice. Lux started taking slow steps closer to where she was so he wouldnât need to raise his voice, taking her in with every step.

âMy thinking comes from experience, not belief.â He checked the oven. Still not done. It wouldnât be for a while, either. He was debating leaving it anyway. He was getting antsy sharing such a small space with the other nephilim. âWhat, are you upset that I got to it first?â It would take more than a short conversation and a few bitter remarks to convince Nathan that there wasnât any hatred residing in the other.Â
âWeâre all going to die eventually. Might as well deserve it.â He flashed a bitter, humorless smile before turning back to the oven. He had done what he needed to do to survive and he had never expected to live long. âI did what I had to do.â Maybe all of it hadnât been necessary. But those things had sort of blurred together after a while, emptying out any idea of a conscience that had once existed inside of him. Turned away, he was already reaching for the knife strapped inside his shirt. He might know he would lose, but he wouldnât go down without a fight.Â
Lux wasnât sure what to say. He couldnât tell if the guy hated himself or hated other nephilim or some combination of all the above. He was spitting out more waves of bitterness than Lux cared to swallow. His brows knitted together as he turned away from his task to look at the brunette. âNo, Iâm not,â he answered, âI wouldnât have called you on to begin with.â For Lux he didnât care how much angel blood a nephilim had, just so long as they had it. Though heâd never trust anyone, he was more inclined to trust his own kind than a human.
Once more Lux was left speechless. He couldnât relate. Not in the slightest. He knew it was much easier for the nephilim before him to die, judging by the size of his wings, than it was for him to. He also knew that if he wanted Lux could live forever, or well as close to forever as a nephilim could come. Which kind of left him in a place where he was torn on the longevity of his existence. With a strong will to live imprinted on him at such a young age, the idea of dying always seemed horrible. It was that thought that had him finally questioning, âDid you really?â He turned back to his task.
melancholy flights
spencerr-quinn¡:
He stretches his wings in the rain. Spencer is still firmly on the ground, but warming up the muscles that have not been used for some time is important. A few loose feathers drift toward the ground, very small cerulean feathers. They are bright against the drab ground of fall; he does not notice this.Â
There is no one around, which is what he wants. Spencer hates it when people watch him fly, or people watch him. Flying itself is a great joy for the nephilim, and before he came to the ranch, it was a frequent activity.Â
Today, today was different. As he pushed off the ground and went through the air, there was no sudden burst of joy, no adrenaline rush. It just made the nephilim feelâŚnumb. It was like he broke through the ice of a frozen river, and all Spencer felt was cold. Suddenly flying wasnât such an enjoyable activity right then, and he dove towards the ground, when he stopped suddenly. Did a crappy landing and called it a day.Â
Well in actuality, Spencer curled into a ball on the ground and lay there unmoving. He didnât really care that is was starting to rain, or that there was cold seeping into his bones. Whatever. Spencer in truth, cared too much and was in a constant state of internalized hysteria at this point. Â
Which meant he didnât care when footsteps were close by, it was probably one of the werewolves onto his scent. Fuck it, Spencer thought,  I am not moving. And move he did not.Â
@luxcassian
Lux knew he wasnât the only nephilim on the ranch. Which was rather quite impressive considering they were rather reclusive creatures and Lux knew it was rare to have so many in one place. And yet he had yet to stubble upon the other one heâd heard about. Though he wasnât entirely surprised by that. It was rather easy for them to avoid the world, let alone one another. Then there was the fact that he wasnât looking for him either. He had enough to deal with when it came to all the other personalities on the ranch.
However, when Lux saw a plethora of of vibrant blue feathers tumbling to the ground and not coming back up he knew he met the other part angel. Heâd been out for a jog. Not the least bit bothered by the rain falling from the sky. It was few degrees above freezing and it was doing wonders to cool of his body. He didnât hurry his pace to see if the nephilim was okay. Lux knew heâd cover the ground quickly and catch up to where heâd seen him laying eventually.
When the man finally came into sight, Lux slowed his pace until he eventually came to a stop. He noticed that his presence didnât cause a stir in the man. Even though he knew for a fact that the brunette knew he was there. âYouâll get mud caked to your wings if you keep laying like that,â he remarked before deciding he should just move.

Xavier shrugged, accepting that explanation. Heâd prefer an actual one, and if Lux thought he was getting away with never talking about it again, he was an idiot, but he would let it be for now.Â
âGuess I can walk with you.â He said, letting out a whistle to get the puppyâs attention. It bounded back to his side, full of boundless energy, and he started towards the house. âSo how does hiding the wings work? Are they still there, and just invisible? Or is it magic?â He preferred the first option, oddly enough. He still had a bit of distaste for magic in general, despite technically being a magical being.
When Lux told him he was going inside he hadnât meant it as an invitation for Xavier to join him. In fact he sort of meant it more as this conversation is over. And now Lux wasnât really sure how to un-invite Xavier. So he supposed he was simply just going to have to accept the otherâs company.
He sighed. Lux already knew the drill. There were always varying reactions to seeing him, and judging by the look in Xavierâs eyes the wolf was definitely having one of wonder and curiosity. Too bad for him Lux had years of practice at avoiding questions and giving as little information as possible. âNo magic. Afraid there is nothing magical about me.â His strides werenât intentionally at a pace to match Xavierâs, but he didnât care enough to walk faster. Lux glanced over at him. âAnd donât get it in your head to try and touch my back to feel for my wings. Youâll only feel my back quickly followed by my fist.â

N - Nephilim; were the offspring of the âsons of Godâ and the âdaughters of menâ before the Deluge, according to Genesis 6:1â4 narrative of the Bible. The âsons of Godâ have been interpreted to be fallen angels according to some classical Judaic explanations.

xavierhalder¡:
âWhy not?â Xavier asked, glancing around. âThereâs no one else around, and obviously Iâm not going to do anything.â The idea of him being dangerous was ludicrous. He didnât think anything had ever considered him dangerous out of his wolf form. And even then, he wasnât all that aggressive, especially compared to others.
And he was interested to actually see Lux fly. The few seconds had not been enough to get a good look, and his curiosity was piqued. What did it look like? How did the wings move? How big were they, really? Heâd only just barely gotten to see, and he wanted to see more.
It was conversations like these that Lux was reminded of why he liked being alone. He glanced back down at the puppy rather accusatorially as if to say you just had to wake up early. Lux wasnât going to tell Xavier why. He didnât trust the man. Sure he liked him more than most at the ranch, but he didnât trust the man to tell him that it made him uncomfortable or why it made him uncomfortable. He wasnât going to tell him that even though he knew the likelihood of Xavier hurting him was slim for a number of reasons, he was still traumatized over something that happened seventeen hundred years ago.
âBecause I said so,â was the only answer he gave. Making sure not to step on the puppy he started walking back towards the house. Then remembering it was rude to just walk away from a conversation he stopped at Xavierâs side. âBesides I was already heading back inside to have breakfast and a drink.â
