This is our final video for projecting onto our sculpture. We tested it today and we absolutely loved it. Super excited to see everyone else reactions.
Process of narrative
After collecting the images we intended to use for our visuals, we then decided in order to make the narrative build cohesively, we needed to start by designing the sound scape. This way we could determine how long we needed the narrative to be. If we could listen to it without getting bored, then we knew it would have enough impact when combined with visuals.
We wanted it to start with an entrancing, almost ambient feel to the music. With A tinkle on the piano and the deep humming of the kokako underpinning the track. Once the track builds to a peak, the glitching intercepts the soothing soundscape and increases in intensity until bringing the track to a halt.
Visuals:
Once the soundscape was confirmed, we then started to build the visuals to match it. With a few re-organisations, we were able to reorder the unfolding flower forms to match the track. Then playing with the speed of the blooming, altering placement on the canvas, and reversing the clips so some of them could rewind the process of blooming at the end, we were able to elaborate on the narrative. We then matched the glitches and the speed of each transition to the track so it felt as the the two worked hand in hand.
Once projected onto the wire mesh form, the inverted edged visuals give the appearance that they are traveling through each fold in the sculpture. With each glitch, the image quickly expands then withdraws again to its original form.
