Simple? A set of rules. You and Lando had set up. More like Lando had set up you were his best friend who were you to say no? especially being in love with him. you should’ve known it was never going to work.Ever.
It wasn’t the glances. It wasn’t the kisses. Nor was it the roaming hands all over your body late at night.
It was the feeling of being so close but yet so far. The way he held you. The way it had felt so real. Almost like he had actually cared. That you weren’t just someone he could go back to when he was thinking with his dick. Like you were more than friends.
Like you were actually his.
But you could never be his. Because watching him disappear with random famous models that were drop dead gorgeous that you could never come close to. Was like watching him stomp on your heart over and over.
But even in your heart you knew you couldn’t let go. God you’d always let him back in despite it breaking your heart.
You could smell the alcohol on him when you opened that door. Hesitating despite that unsettling feeling in the pit of your stomach you couldn’t leave him out there.
“…room for one more?” Lando slurs out in his drunken state.
“Lando..you’re all drunk-” you groan out.
“Oh come on..pleasee?” He begs. His gorgeous eyes looking up at you pleading. Oh you wanted to slam that door in his gorgeous face but you couldn’t.
Because the moment you folded in giving him way into your apartment once again his hands were already all over your body reaching under your shirt leaving hot open mouthed kisses against your neck.
“..shh..just let me take care of you..” he says his voice soft barley above a whisper.
“You’re drunk..you don’t know what you’re doing” you say softly trying to pry him off you.
“Y/n I need you..I need to feel you.” Wrapping you into a breathless kiss not letting you respond.
He picked you up effortlessly. Like you weighed nothing your legs wrapping around his strong waist. Navigating himself through your apartment without breaking the kiss like he knew your apartment like the back of his hand. Like what he was doing was an occasional thing.
Before making it to your room and lowering you onto your bed. The street lamps illuminating on his face casting a gorgeous soft glow in his features.

The bed was cold. No one beside you. No one holding you. You could smell his cologne on the sheets it was almost mocking..humiliating.
He was just gone. Like no one had ever been there with you last night.
It wasn’t the fact he was just gone. No notification from Lando. He didn’t even have the audacity to wake you up and say he was leaving.
Gone. Once again like you were just there for him to use and go. Because that’s all it was.
Because as the day went through it was like you didn’t exist to him. Not once did he message you. He was probably out at some club living his life with some random girls he’d rather be see with.
All just to end up at your doorstep once again.
There he was again. Late at night stood at your door once more. You didn’t want to open that door. Didn’t want to let him back into your arms again.
You were hurt. Knowing that this whole stupid “friends with benefits” thing wasn’t going to work. Not when you love him. Not with knowing he will never want you the way you want him.
It was that dumb feeling once again making you open that door. The feeling of love. The feeling of longing for someone who doesn’t want you.
You couldn’t keep doing this. Not when it was killing you inside slowly.
The faint sounds of Monaco’s busy streets ringing out even at night but not enough to cover the fury in your voice.
“..you’ve got be kidding me” You scoff. Staring at Lando infront of your door like a lost puppy. “You disappear all day and now you’re back?”
“What? It’s not that deep..I had stuff to do-” his tone laced with confusion
“Not that deep!?” You snap at him not giving him a chance to speak.
“Yes not that deep! I don’t get why you’re blowing up on me?” He retorts.
“You really don’t get it..? You left without a word Lando! Not a single text you didn’t even bother to wake me up!?”
He sighs his hand running through his soft curls.
“I didn’t think I had to. We said this was causal! Nothing else”
You laugh coming out short and bitter looking at him with pure disgust now. “Casual? Mhm. You only show up when you’re horny or bored. This is my fault for going through with this! I’m the idiot who keeps letting you in!”
His body froze. “Don’t fucking make it seem like that. Like I’m using you!” His tone nothing but defensive.
“Then what the fuck is it! Huh? Because this isn’t a friendship anymore we fuck and you won’t speak to me unless your horny again!” You snap back,voice trembling.
“You think I don’t care about you!? That I don’t care about our friendship! You agreed to this. We had rules and now you’re taking it out on me!” His jaw tightening. Anger lacing his voice at the accusations being thrown at him.
“I cant keep doing this!” Your voice cracking watching a flicker of guilt flash in his eyes.
“It was never meant to get this far..” He whispers.
“I only agreed to this because I love you! And I have for months! Fuck-” you blurt out
He just stood there. Didn’t move. Didn’t speak. He just stared at you.
“I cant keep pretending Lando! I cant I just cant- but I cant keep pretending this isn’t killing me” your voice unsteady,tears threading to spill.
His lips parted like he wanted to say something but nothing came out. Those eyes you could never forget looking at you like you had just slapped him.
He said nothing. He walked away. Again.
No goodbye. No explanation. Just the sound of him closing the door behind him. Leaving you stood there heart shattering.
Before curling up on your bed. You didn’t know what you felt.what to do.what was next. Just sobbing into your pillow.
The following week felt like living hell. You ghosted everyone. Distracting yourself with work or just staying home. You were embarrassed.
On occasional. Pietra your best friend would come over. You could never hide anything from her she knew you too well. Aswell as being in the same group as Lando.
Despite your practiced smile she could see through it. She was concerned to say the least. Especially because you would always be there at race weekend she knew Lando always wanted you there so why weren’t you?
Race weekend. How could you forget.
Those clips you had seen on instagram was brutal. But no matter what you still supported him still silently cheering him on as you watched the race in your tv.
He looked fine? Like everything was just peachy.
How could he stand there on tv and look like nothing had happened.
God this was messing with you.
“No. Not happening!” Putting a mug of coffee infront of her.
“Come y/n..you can’t keep hiding in here” she says huffing
“First off I am not hiding! Second of I like keeping to myself!”
“Listen. Im not going to pressure you into telling me what happened. But shutting everyone out isn’t going to help” her hand going ontop of your hand comforting you. “if you come to the race this weekend you don’t have to speak to him..stay with me.”
“I’ll think about it..” you whisper out.
There you were. Fake smile. Fake laugh. You stayed by Pietra the whole time trying to avoid the McLaren garage at all times. Any time you heard his name or anything to do with him was like you went into this hyperaware state.
That’s when you felt it. The feeling of someone eyes burning into you while you were trying to talk to Pietra and Ria on the balcony. You couldn’t focus.
That’s when you saw him. Locking eye contact with him from across the balcony. Surrounded by his team laughing at whatever they were saying. The type of eye contact to make chest feel constricted.
You weren’t going to do this. Not with this many people here. not with this crowd. Excusing yourself from Pietra and ria saying you needed the bathroom. Telling them they didn’t need to come with.
Walking past the McLaren garage was the worst. The once garage you sat in supporting him as the race went on.
His hand clamped to your wrist. Not rough but not gentle. He hauls you away to his drivers room ignoring the few curious faces on what he was doing. Not responding to your protests to let go.
Before hauling you into his drivers room the door clicking shut behind you.
“You came..?” He says,his voice tight
“I didn’t come for you!” You snap. “I came for my friends because I’m tired of hiding because you walked out on me like I was nothing.”
“I didn’t walk out because you were nothing.” His jaw clenching.
“..no? Then why’d you walk away huh!? Why didn’t you say anything!” Biting back.
“I didn’t know what to say okay!” Taking a step back but never letting go of your wrist.
“You made me believe I mattered! That every night we shared every kiss could’ve been something! You walked out!” You scoff bitterly.
“I thought if we kept it casual it would be safer. For us. For our friendship! You keep forgetting you agreed to those terms!” Running a hand over his face.
“Safer!? Having sex and holding me like I meant something to you was playing it safe..” you whisper.
His face twisting,like your words had struck a nerve.
“I didn’t want to hurt you.” His voice low.
“But you did. And when it got to much you left”
“..your a fucking coward Lando.”
You turn to the door. Eyes glossy “I can’t keep doing this. Being your stupid fuck buddy while you go out and live your life”
Before he can stop you,you pull away from his grip before he can say something that changes your mind. Walking out quickly. hot tears streaming down your face.
Humiliation. Embarrassment. That’s all you could feel once again.
You didn’t know where you were going. Away. Away from McLaren away from anything that reminded you of Lando.
You felt sick to your core. The argument re playing in your head like some sick kind of torture. His voice replaying in your mind.
Crouching on to some step away from the paddock. You probably looked like some weirdo. You didn’t give a shit to hurt to. Too numb to.
“You okay..?” A soft and steady voice calling out.
Looking up and being greeted by the one and only Charles Leclerc.
You hadn’t really spoken to him a lot. Maybe a few times here and there but he was definitely sweet and handsome.
“Sorry— I didn’t mean to” wiping your tears quickly,embarrassed.
“Don’t worry..” he says sitting beside you. “I’m guessing it’s about Lando..?” He asks.
“Weren’t exactly quiet..I was just walking past to get back to Ferrari. Not listening in I swear!” Putting his hands up in defence earning a soft laugh from you.
“don’t blame you..” you say quietly.
“..I don’t exactly know..what’s happened..but from what I heard..you deserve more than someone who doesn’t make you feel like a burden..” his eyes studying you.
“It was nothing..really” voice shaky
“I don’t mean to pry..but I’m serious” he nods before handing you a tissue. “It’s clean I promise”
You take his tissue laughing wiping a few tears away.
He just sits there beside you. Listening. No cameras. No pressure. Just there. It was like you were being seen for the first time.
Footsteps echoing. Asking Pietra and ria if they had seen you making them worry. His voice worried,urgent and uneven like he was ready to break.
Lando rounding the corner before freezing.
You. Charles sitting on the floor beside you saying something stupid enough to get a soft laugh out of you. Lando face twists instantly. Shock? Guilt? Or was jealousy?
He didn’t speak. Breathe uneven. His eyes locked on you laughing not at something he said. Something Charles had said. The same way you laughed at him when he would say something stupid.
You didn’t notice him. Too tucked away into the quietness Charles had offered the type of comfort you had deserved.
His fists clenching at his sides. Swallowing hard.
He didn’t blame you. He deserved this the kind of mockery that he rightfully owned. Watching Charles gently nudge your shoulder. Watching you throw your head back and laugh. The once laugh that was for him.
Turning away before Charles or you can see him. Still hearing your laughter a sound that could’ve, should’ve belonged to him. But to blinded by his stupidness and fear.
And that’s when the text came through. You phone pinging atleast making you look at it.
God I bet you’re fucking him aswell.

It was like the air had been knocked out of you. Like this was a cruel sick joke.
