We talked with Harry Josh, of John Frieda House of Experts to share with us his tips and tricks for the ultimate perfect hair that you can carry from one party to the next!

Pssssst Instant Dry Shampoo Why does Benjamin Mohapi, whose clients range from Megan Fox, Agyness Deyn, and Courtney Cox, love this dry shampoo? Simple. It’s great, and it delivers. Plus points that it’s very affordable.

Spornette Boar Bristle Round Brush Sheenon Olson, creative director of ATMA Beauty whose clients include Alessandra Ambrosio, Elizabeth Olsen, and Elle Macpherson, loves the nylon quills and boar bristles of this round brush! Curious as to why she loves it? The nylon quills give you control so that all hair follicles dry in the same direction, while the boar bristles has polishing qualities, and will give you the perfect blowout look. Sheenan also shared that boar bristles by itself does not give you enough tension when drying the hair.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Extra Strength 6 Effects Serum This product might be a mouthful, but Daven Mayeda, hairstylist with Honey Artists whose clients include Shay Mitchell, Adele, and Nicki Minaj, loves how it tames hair and frizz, without leaving the hair greasy or weighed down.

Salon Grafix Wendy Iles, founder of Iles Formula whose clients include Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Diane Kruger, stocks this dry shampoo. It’s her go to for emergency dirty-hair situations. Wendy loves the Salon Grafix in brown. The product comes in natural colours, and doesn’t leave any white traces. It has good quality, and great price!

Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Heat Defense Leave-in Conditioner Stylist at the Rita Hazen Salon in New York City, Juan Carlos Maciques loves this lightweight formula that infuses keratin into the hair for amazing hydration, while protecting it from heat styling. Rita recommends adding a quarter-size amount evenly through hair, working from the ends up, then comb through for even distribution and blow-dry smooth. One of her summer secrets is to use it as a curl activator for curly, unruly hair. She would apply a more generous amount as needed, comb through and let air dry. It will tame the curly frizz through intense moisture, and seal the curl to lock in its natural pattern.

TRESemme Purify & Replenish Conditioner Stylist at Marie Robinson Salon, Ryan Trygstad loves this conditioner because “It makes the hair so shiny and smells amazing!” Some of their clients include Emily Ratajkowski, Naomi Watts, and Jessica Chastain.

Conair Copper Quik Blow-Dry Pro Vent Brush Michael Dueñas, founder of Hair Room Service whose clients include Sofia Richie, Petra Nemcova, and Rashida Jones absolutely loves the Conair Copper Quik Blow-Dry Pro Vent Brush from their copper collection. Who wouldn’t? It helps dry the hair incredibly fast, while letting you keep the volume. How does he use it? Michael blow dries on wet hair to blow straight and smooth, or even just on the roots to get all the volume he wants. Plus points that it is made of copper which is antimicrobial.

Dove Dry Shampoo This staple drugstore dry shampoo is a fan-favourite of  Nunzio Saviano, founder of Nunzio Saviano Salon whose clients include Brooke Shields, Anjelica Huston, and Elisabeth Röhm. He loves how it doesn’t leave a residue, as other dry shampoos do. Nunzio recommends to apply it at the roots and blow out the hair with a round brush, to add volume, and for a polished, refreshed style.

It’s a 10 Miracle Finishing Spray This product is incredibly lightweight, brushable, and flexible. And Lauren E. Hack and Vanessa Ungaro of LAUREN + VANESSA, whose clients include Lisa Edelstein, Ana Beatriz Barros, and Molly Sims loves this product for humid days. Ever wondered what the small symbols in your cosmetics mean? Those shapes with letters and numbers that don’t have a direct translation underneath it can actually make or break your skin. Consider yourself in-the-know, and probably a semi-cosmetic expert, as we’ve cracked these ancient (or maybe not) code for you! The small ‘e’ What it doesn’t mean: This product is from Internet Explorer What it actually means: The lowercase 'e' is a symbol called the “estimated sign.” It is usually found on products produced in EU, it ensures that the amount of product in the packaging is correct. “8 fl oz' is guaranteed to be eight fluid ounces, and the packaging prevents any altering of the amount of the contents. Basically, you're getting what you paid for—volume-wise.

The lid and jar with an ‘M’ and number labeled on it What it doesn't mean: Number of products opened/produced What it does mean: The “period-after-opening symbol' or PAO, tells you how long a product is good after opening. If the symbol says 6M, it means the product will expired within 6 months after opening, breaking the seal, popping the lid, etc.

The leaping bunny What it doesn't mean: Bunnies were used in the making of this product What it does mean: No bunnies were killed in the making of the product. The internationally recognised 'Leaping Bunny' symbol is the highest guarantee that no animals were harmed—in all stages of development and production, and it goes for all parties involved, including labs and suppliers. The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) audits companies wishing to use the symbol on their packaging to be sure that they adhere to the symbol's strict cruelty-free standards.

The open flame What it doesn't mean: Perfect with marshmallows! What it does mean: The “flammable' symbol means that this product should not be introduced to flames or high heat.

The hand studying for exams What it doesn't mean: Books before boys. What it does mean: This symbol means, 'Refer to Insert'. The label on the actual product doesn’t give all information about it, so the manufacturer included a handy leaflet for reference (think medicine bottles).

The triangle made of arrows What it doesn't mean: This product was made through a process of going a round in a round-a-bout. What it does mean: The ‘Mobius Loop’ is the internationally recognised symbol for recycling, and indicates that the packaging is recyclable. If a percentage is present, it means that the manufacturer used that amount of post-consumer waste in making the packaging.

The circle made of arrows What it doesn't mean: Put in a blender to make product What it does mean: The 'Green Dot’ is a symbol companies pay for to be printed on their packaging. The license fee goes toward the cost of recovering and recycling materials that are dropped-off recycling bins outside grocery stores, or elementary schools. The symbol signifies that the brand from which you’re buying from, supports these efforts through the fee tucked in the product price.

The triangle with a number and letters inside What it doesn't mean: The bermuda triangle of letters What it does mean: You usually see this on plastic packaging. These resin identification codes help determine which polymer was used in plastic packaging, making it easier for recyclers to sort out the plastics.

Fall signals the return of your boots, scarves, and coats, the season that signals that a change of wardrobe is in order. But it also signals something you may have overlooked—a change in your skincare regimen. While being able to pair your clothes every new season is a cinch, knowing exactly what happens to your skin as the season changes is a bit trickier. And unfortunately, if you don’t know, it shows. Here are some things you need to know when transitioning to fall: 

1. Skin is suuuuper dry When the colder season hits, it’s your cue to add more moisturising products in your routine  (The keyword is more. Regardless of the season, you should be moisturising your skin!) Shift to a gentle cleanser that not only cleanses, and hydrates, but also moisturises you entire body. 

2. Skin is very very very sensitive When the temperature drops, skin becomes more susceptible to the environment. Skip on aggressive treatments for a bit, and try exfoliating less. Concentrate on gentle cleansing and moisturising. 

3. Skin has an aftershock from summer Even if you didn’t spend time under the sun, or in the beach, you still get sun damage. This is most likely in the form of sun spots or visible signs of ageing. Add a retinoid to your routine to repair and renew the skin. It helps greatly with hyper-pigmentation, melasma, freckles, fine wrinkles and lines and dull, sullen skin.

Summer also causes larger pores, making it produce more oil, and filling it up with dirt and keratin. This in turn stretches out the pores. During the summer month’s UVA radiation penetrates more into the dermis, which weakens and breaks down collage and elastin, making pores even more bigger. Look for peels, serums, or hydrators with salicylic acid to help clean out the pores. 

4. Skin is more vulnerable to sun damage during these months The UV index may continue to be high, and you’re less motivated to put on protection because the winds are cooler. Wear a moisturiser with sunscreen every morning. When doing outdoor activities, wear an SPF 50 sunscreen.
