The red-orange gradient compliments his overall design nicely, especially the blond hair. Part of me wonders if there were plans to add green accents at any point, as a nod to his dendro vision and to mirror Alhaitham's heterochromia.

Anyway, my favourite detail is the white (?) pupil highlight in the center of his eyes, it makes him look really alive and alert. It also gives him more of a feline-esque look; elegant and powerful. (between the mane-like hair and his eyes, the lion imagery is undeniable)

His eyes look different in a few of his earlier artworks. There's a little less detail so the gradient really stands out.

but i dont think a lot of people like... Fathom as to how much valencina must of had to work for the love of the family bognatelli. she presumably started as a soldato then moved up through the capos. we know from soldato sinclair that the thumb is utterly nightmarish to be in especially in the lower ranks of the hierarchy

it is So easy to fuck up. even on a Good day youre at risk of getting horrifically mutilated in some way.

which leads into the next thing to remember that being. guys. the fingers are cults. all of them, not just the index. there is a lot of thought and behavior control Everywhere in the thumb

which, given it seems like it takes forever to rise in ranks because of the emphasis the thumb puts on achievement and merit, this means that valencina has spent so much fucking time of her life not only indocrinated into this kind of system but constantly fighting tooth and nail to climb upward and treading a razor thin wire. and then the second she was promoted to sottocapo, a position of power where the only person you need to bow your crown to is the actual head of the syndicate, something that fighting in an actual, for real war for couldnt earn her back, she loses her title in a matter of days due to an incident and is kicked out of her family entirely. Anyone would be fucked up and aggressive after that.

i think it explains a lot about her aggressive investment in ryoshu too. shes basically a stage mom on crack living through her daughter because she might be the key to not only having a way back into the thumb but restoring her pride and reputation. she refuses to let ryoshu enjoy that birthday cake because shes been denied the pleasure and relief that came from her own achievements. shes spiteful because ryoshu is still young and has the ability to prove herself without having to constantly one up the high peaks valencina can't reach anymore because the people she wants to impress refuse to acknowledge them. with the heavy level of cult indoctrination thats implied it is no fucking wonder her method of parenting is proving her superiority over a weaker person with less power in an attempt to cultivate them into something stronger. she wants power but theres a non zero percent factor in here that she genuinely cannot fathom a different method of earning that respect or dignity. shes someone that was cultivated in a hostile environment and is taking it out on her own kid
