Dropping a very special Sketch-a-wish, voted on by my lovely Patreon members for August!
The winning request was to illustrate an off-page scene from The Folk of the Air series, when Cardan was writing his letters to Jude.
I countered that Cardan went through the five stages of grief writing those letters, and each deserved it's own illustration. (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance) You'll also notice some familiar outfits throughout!

He liked feeling every mark under his lips, tracing a path along her body, following them like breadcrumbs. He had them mapped outâevery scar a new island he had to religiously chart, a job he took more seriously than Nami and her maps.
His favorite scars were always the ones linked to him somehowâthe one across her nose, the same she often tried to hide, though he found it beautiful. Theyâd gotten it in the same fight, helping each other, and he carried one on his cheek, too. The one on her shoulder reminded him of their reunion after two years, now faded into a sun-shaped mark, born, ironically, from a snow woman.
And then there was the one on her back â a long, thin line, sharp as a blade. Not a mark of shame as he once thought, but a testament to her unwavering courage, a love that never wavered. It was the scar of her sacrifice, the day she took the blow meant for him. He kissed that line with reverence, lips tracing constellations that flickered and broke against her skin.
He traced the length of it with his fingertips, the roughness of the tissue under his touch. She had her back to him, her muffled moans swallowed by the pillow, fingers gripping the sheets until her knuckles turned white. Wanting to draw more of her voice, he kissed the scar behind her ear, down her neck, and her shoulders. Between his own ragged breaths, he left new marks of his ownâuntil his scars blended with hers.

His gaze flickers between the small package in her hands and her flushed face, uncertain what to say or do.
âItâs just a present, Roronoa, Iâm not trying to kill you,â Glasses says, a bit frustrated at his inability to respond. She adjusts her glasses, her pout evident.
âFor me?â He asks dumbly because itâs obviously for him; otherwise, she wouldnât be there.
Glasses groans, and that mightâve pissed him off at another time, but heâs too shocked to bite back. âWho else would it be, Roronoa?â
Itâs his birthdayâthat damn date he doesnât celebrate because whatâs so special about being born? âand also a shared celebration between her unit and his crew. Her unit. Only hers, no Smoker around. Even as a Vice-Admiral, she still spoils her people, who always find a way to break rules and join them in any sort of activity. Not that Zoro minds âhe doesnât mind at all, not if that gets him to meet her.
He picks the box from her hands, fingers brushing her palm, and itâs so small he has no idea what she could have bought. She must be messing with himâthat wouldnât be the first time, the damned Cook taught her well.
But curiosity wins him over, and carefully, he lifts the top to find a black-greenish cloth. Itâs kind of exquisiteâa really well-crafted scarf, he thinks. Zoro runs his fingers over it, and the softness tells him it mustâve been expensive.
She mumbles, averting her eyes. âItâs a bandana. You lost yours, didnât you? So I thought youâd like to have another.â Then she looks back at him, adjusting her glasses again, the blush an endearing little thing. âI got the three swords embroidered.â
Words crumble before they reach his tongue. He just stares at her, stunnedâbecause yes, heâd lost his bandana. Heâd even thought of replacing it once, but there had never been any urgency.
âItâs really cool, Glasses.â And it is, the feeling of the embroidery under his fingertips makes him smile. Thatâs a nice touch; it makes the bandana his alone.
A slow smile spreads across her face, the kind that comes from knowing she got it just right.
âCan you tie it for me?â Zoro asks without thinking. His right arm is indeed bandaged, and he canât tie the bandana on the left arm himself, but deep down, he knows thereâs absolutely no need to do it right now.
Glasses blushes even more when she gets close to him. He thinks about teasing her, but stops himselfâthe warmth on his own face tells him he must look just the same.
âThanks. I really liked it,â he murmurs, his voice low enough for only her to hear. Her big brown eyes widenâpart from their closeness, part from the surprise of him admitting itâs a good gift.
And without her knowing, she gifts him a second time: a grin that brightens the darkest of days, the one heâs never tired of.

Writing and characterizing Luffy is really just trying to decide the ratios between
- Luffy pretending to be stupid to put someone at ease or make them lower their guard
- Luffy pretending to be stupid because thereâs complicated political shit happening that he canât be bothered to deal with and he wants someone else to do the thinking for him
- Luffy seemingly pretending to be stupid so he can drop some insane brilliant iconic move only what actually happened was that the genius solution to the problem seemed so obvious and straightforward to him that he didnât bother to explain it to anybody because he honestly didnât think he had to
- Luffy seeming stupid because he has a very clear understanding of the power scale, potential risks, and capability of his crew, and he knows for a fact they can handle just about anything so he doesnât need to pay attention too all the warnings and the planning and the whatever. Teehee gum gum go boing because Taking Fights Seriously is for people who canât dog walk warlords
- And Luffy genuinely sincerely just being extremely fucking stupid.
No one asked, but here's a quick note on how I interpret him: his bluntness, extreme honesty, and hyperfocus are often mistaken for childishness, but believe me, my boyâs just autistic and doesnât mask a thing. Heâs not stupid, not even a manchild. Sure, he can be silly sometimes, but he feels deeply, is actually quite smart, and knows how to solve things even if in a different way than others. His strength is emotional intelligence, and I love that.
