You can get into a whole weird white guilt thing about whether to use 👍 or 👍🏻 because the pervasive view within this cultural context that 👍 is "default" or "neutral" but also implicitly understood as white is a symptom of white supremacy, but also using 👍🏻 can sort of seem like unnecessarily centering your whiteness in conversations that aren't supposed to be about you. But ultimately what I do in practice is I use 👍 because I want emoji to be weird little smilies & cartoons on my phone and I do not want them to resemble my actual physical body for personal reasons, I absolutely respect you if you use 👍🏿 because it looks like you but the thought of an emoji actually looking like me fills me with an irrational dread I cannot justify
