hi friends!!! uh here’s a lil explanation as to why i was MIA for like MONTHS lmao so skip over this if ur looking for new content :) 

so BASICALLY i uh quit genshin for a while since i’m a uni student and was extremely busy for a big chunk of the year (literally fuck engineering lmao) and it kind of slowly translated into me abandoning this blog since i had just started and didn’t have too many followers. but i recently logged back in and ive been overwhelmed with the amnt of love and requests ive gotten so ive decided to start writing for these lovely characters once again <3 if u sent me a request like MONTHS ago i promise ill get to it and i sincerely apologize for how long it took me to do so 😭

looking at the rushed, frenzied state you were in, one could assume you were late for something, or rather, rushing to get away. deft hands that were once so gentle with love began packing up clothes, weapons, and various other trinkets into the folds of your bag, stuffing each item with no real care. you glanced at the oval clock, mentally noting the time. hands automatically packed faster, before you forced yourself to slow down. “he probably hasn’t noticed the time anyway” you bit out, bitter words tumbling past your lips. 

taking one last quick glance around your shared bedroom, you loaded up your bag on your shoulder and made your way to yujing terrace, sitting on the same  corner you had been waiting on for over two hours. 

madame ping offered you a sad smile upon your coming back, her gaze all too knowing about the purposes of your too full bag. she wished she could say something, give you a tangible reason for her old friend’s most recent absence, but she knew no excuse could ever fully heal the heartache of being forgotten. 

as minutes cascaded into hours, the sky blossomed into a navy blue, the only sign of your presence marked by the silent tears running down your face, illuminated by the lights of dimly lit stores. madame ping kept you company, feigning tending after flowers in favor of looking after you, willing to give you a place to stay should you need one.

at the sound of swift footsteps you wiped your eyes, the last thing you were going to look like was broken, no matter how much you truly were inside. 

zhongli’s concerned face entered your line of vision and you sat up straighter, gripping the strings of your bag tighter. he slowed down to a stop a few feet away from you, almost as if he could sense that the last thing you wanted was to be close to him. fresh tears threatened to drip down your cheeks as you wobbly stood up, knees weak from waiting for so long. 

he took a few experimental steps towards you, his hand reached out to quietly brush a few stray tears. feet moved away from him, stepping back out of arms reach. his hand fell limply. 

“i’m so sorry, my dear” he whispered. his heart constricted at the sight of your teary face and red lips. 

perhaps he knew internally that this time was different; that maybe this time his failure to check the clock and instead get lost in conversation with his colleague would be the last straw. 

“you were supposed to be here 3 hours ago” 

your head was turned away from him; you could never stay mad for long despite the amount of betrayal coursing through your veins. well aware were you that he would never do anything to intentionally hurt you, then why, oh why, did this hurt so bad?

“i know, i...i truly apologize, i was helping my new colleague learn the history behind liyue harbor and i lost track of time”

“this was a rescheduled date zhongli. we haven’t seen each other properly in three weeks. your colleague has been taking up all of your time” you bit out, waves of jealousy rising through your chest unintentionally at the mere mention of his colleague. 

“darling, it’s my duty as a consultant to share my knowledge with people. i can’t refuse their questions”

“really? you’re going to pick them over me?”

you fought to keep the anger out of your voice while frustration seeped through the broken crevices of your words. anger at his colleague yes, but more potently, frustration at zhongli for being unable to recognize people’s advances towards him under the pretense of “education.”

your anger felt out of place under the soft gaze of his amber eyes, and you looked away, feeling unusually small. the strings of your bag under your hands roughly ground against your palms, anchoring you to the real reason you waited. 

zhongli sighed softly, trying his best to make you understand. your anger was warranted he decided, yet he needed you to know that you were the only one he would ever love. 

“of course not, they’re just a friend. however, it seems i have made you more upset than i had intended. is there anything i can do to make it up to you?”

he fought to make eye contact with you, praying you would be able to read the sincerity behind his molten eyes. 

you shook your head, carefully balancing your bag on your shoulder. 

“i’m leaving.”

zhongli’s head immediately shot up, eyes wide, and mouth opening to interject. 

you held your hand up, silently asking him to wait. 

“i’m not leaving for good, i’m just... setting off on my commission a little earlier than intended. i think an adventure by myself is long overdue and maybe when i get back, we...we can work things out”

you looked off to the side, knowing full well you were simply running away from your problems. internally you were aware of how displeased zhongli most likely was, knowing he preferred to work problems out as they arise, keeping your relationship healthy. 

however you didn’t want to, at least not right now. the frustration and hurt was still fresh in your mind, no matter how well intentioned you knew zhongli to be. a simple conversation along with a few apologies wouldn’t quell your aching heart. you needed to soothe it yourself and setting off on your commission two days earlier would kickstart the healing. 

zhongli bowed his head politely. 

“if that is what you wish, then i agree. i will wait for your return.”

his heart clenched painfully as the worst case scenarios flashed through his mind. perhaps this was it, the final curtain call on your time together. perhaps this was the final chapter to your beautiful story. either way, he let himself hope as you allowed him to reach you, his lips brushing a gentle kiss on your forehead as he murmured a, “stay safe” into your skin. 

as he watched you walk away, with your bag slung over your shoulder packed with too many things, he hoped that you would come back.

you slowly blink up at him, attempting to register what just happened. 

“you...what?” 

he sheepishly grinned as he held out a small blue hydro slime, its shape contracting and releasing as it studied you with round eyes. you bit your lip softly, attempting to contain an ‘aw’ at the creature’s cuteness. 

you sighed softly. “what experiment is this slime for this time?” you prodded, used to your boyfriend’s many research tendencies.

at your words, you swore the slime’s eyes widened as it attempted to jump its way out of the alchemist’s hands, seemingly alarmed by the word, ‘experiment’.

albedo’s eyes glistened as he talked about what exactly he intended to use the slime for and the many doors in alchemy this creature could open up. 

he hurriedly rushed to his lab and slipped drawers open on his table, talking animatedly all the while. 

taking this as your queue to leave, you stride over to your light haired boyfriend before quickly pecking his cheek and grabbing your supplies. before you could head out however, albedo gently grasped your wrist, causing you to shoot him a questioning look. 

“if my memory serves me right, you are sleeping over tonight...right?” 

swinging your backpack over your shoulder, you felt your lips slip into a wide grin at the tentative question from the usually so assured alchemist. 

“i’ll be back soon ‘bedo, i’m just going to check on klee”

your reply made his shoulders visibly relax as he immediately went back to placing his experimental supplies out. sensing something’s eyes on you, you turned around to meet the slime’s gaze before affectionately moving to smooth your hand over its flesh. it lightly nuzzled into you, almost cooing. you laughed softly at its antics before finally taking your leave, oblivious to albedo’s curious stare at your retreating figure.

“i’m back ‘bedo! and i brought a special guest with me!”

klee tried to muffle her giggles as you gently pressed your index finger to your lips. 

you spotted the alchemist near the crafting bench, seemingly hard at work. to your surprise, you saw the slime perched happily on his shoulder, nuzzling into him every so often. 

despite your silent signals to stay quiet, klee immediately ran over to her brother, almost knocking him down from the force of her hug. the young girl started jumping after noticing the peculiar slime hiding away on albedo’s shoulder. at her promise that she wouldn’t blow it up, albedo carefully handed her the slime which had her running to the chair as fast as she could in order to play with her new friend. 

the alchemist’s gaze turned towards you as you stood there with your arms crossed. 

“i’ve never seen you get so attached to specimens before”

he shrugged before elaborating. 

“i observed the way you handled the slime and was curious as to how it responded to affection. i wasn't really expecting to enjoy being around it that much but they truly are adorable creatures”

you raised your eyebrow before motioning with your hand for him to continue.

“so...would you object to keeping it? i’ve drafted up some items for it if you would like to take a look?”

walking towards your boyfriend, you take a look at the objects crafted on the crafting table. 

“like a pet?” you smiled. 

his affirmative nod had you laughing before you immediately agreed. 

he let his lips curve into a smile as you turned around to say something to klee. 

“klee! would you like to come up with some names for your new friend?” 

the girl’s immediate scream of joy filled up the lab as you watched the slime’s eyes curve up happily, content with the way things played out.

your soft grasps at the lapels of diluc’s coat don’t go unnoticed by the redheaded man as he uttered these words, gently guiding your fingers to rest on his chest.

his arms are wrapped snuggly around you as he satisfied your silent request for body contact. your legs are hooked around his waist while you inhale the smokey scent of his coat, feeling slow relief finally seep into your veins. 

he had known something was wrong from the moment you had stepped foot inside the winery with eyes filled with clouds too dark and cheeks a little too wet to be cast off as sweat from the hot summer day. he had immediately moved to stand beside you and watched as you refused to look at him, instead opting to mumble a soft “hello.” the light touch of his hand on your arm accompanied with his usual, “i missed you” had you biting your lip, struggling to keep your tears at bay. 

you had internally chanted to yourself to hold onto your flood of emotions for a little while longer -  just until you could get to the bathroom. however, these three little words uttered by your caring boyfriend immediately broke your facade as you felt the tears finally mark your cheeks once more and soft sobs tumble past your lips. 

your head was pounding as your knees finally gave out from the emotional strain you were under. his arms immediately caught you, just like they always do. his steady hand against the small of your back as he gently whispered reassurances only had you crying harder, desperately attempting to pull him closer. he obliged, letting you meld into him in any way you saw fit; he just wanted to be there for you. 

noticing adelinde ushering the maids away from the entry way, he softly placed a kiss on your temple before walking into the shared bedroom with you in his arms. your cries had steadied out into hiccups as he sat down on the bed, softly shifting in order to grab a light blanket to wrap you with. 

“do you need anything?” diluc gently whispered as he brushed his lips against your forehead. 

the light shaking of your head prompted him to sit more comfortably, preparing himself to be here with you for as long as you needed. one hand weaved comfortingly through your hair, gently tugging on knots, while his other hand moved up and down your back, lulling you into a state of security as you finally found refuge from the storm in your mind. 

slightly lifting your head up, you turned to look at him, letting your eyes pass over the crease in his brow as a result of your sadness. he smiled slightly when he caught your eyes with his own. you weakly turned the corners of your lips to show that you were ok, and were rewarded with an even bigger smile. 

the light nuzzle of his face in your shoulder shot sparks of happiness through your veins. only diluc could ease your sadness with a simple brush of his body. a sudden jolt of panic went through you as you looked at him with all the surprise you could muster in your tired state. “don’t you have work?” the slight panic raising in your voice had him chuckling. 

“work can wait. i’ll stay here with you for as long as you want me to”

you quickly reclaimed your spot on his shoulder, content with being lulled to sleep at his gentle ministrations. 

the last words you heard before you drifted away into a peaceful slumber made you smile. 

“i’ll always be here for you, y/n. don’t worry, everything will be ok”

your gentle hands weaving themselves into his matted locks vanquished any last restraint he had in him. with a mumble, razor collapsed onto your chest, lightly snuggling his head closer to your hands while his face found purchase against your shoulder. your gentle ministrations had the wolfish boy nuzzle his nose against your neck, breathing in your scent. his arms were wrapped securely around you, a quiet plea for you to stay here with him, if only for a little while. the gentle rumble of your voice against his shoulder as you recounted your commissions comforted his heart as he let his eyes peer off to the setting sun behind you. the occasional “sounds nice” and “interesting” comments let you know that you had his full attention. as much as his wolfish instincts insisted he should be the one having you in his arms like this, his human side was content with being protected by you, basking in the comforting warmth you emitted. he loved physical contact, but cuddles in the sunset with your arms tangled in his hair had to be his favorite form of affection.

the bone crushing hug you wrapped him in after being away for a week had his heart pounding and his arms automatically finding their home around your waist. he laughed as he quickly picked you up and spun you around, cheeks radiant with the promise of spending the next few days under the sun with you. your smile glowed as you laughed along, voice brimming with happiness with how much you missed mondtadt, missed him. he immediately insisted on taking you out on an adventure, before you gently reminded him how late it was. his sheepish grin as he looked at you bashfully with a softly uttered “oops” had your heart constrict lovingly. you excitedly babbled on about your journey - the things you saw, the monsters you met, and the people you helped - all the while having your legs wrapped securely around his waist. he carried you like this back to his camp, where the two of you were so lost in conversation that you didn’t even register you were home. his cheeks flushed as he looked down at the position you were in, the steady warmth of your body shielding his arms from the cold as your chest was pressed flush against his. he loved the way he could feel your heartbeat against his shoulder, the steady thumping lulling him into a calmer state of mind. 

“we should do this more often, you’re very comfy to carry around”

chongyun ✰

the way chongyun softly jumped as you intertwined your hands had you trying to muffle your giggles. the boy tried his hardest to not glance at you, over fear of combusting from overheating. his other hand shakily pulled out a popsicle from his pocket and he quickly ripped the covering open with his teeth before cutely munching on it. you laughed while poking his side, teasing him about his sensitivity. he puffed his cheeks out slightly at your jests before securing his hand tighter around yours. the flush was still starkly evident across his pale features but the way he was able to meet your eyes now without having his whole face burn gave you confidence. taking advantage of this rare opportunity, you quickly moved to peck his cheek, giggling while you pulled away. you swore you saw smoke come out of his ears as he quickly let go of your hand in order to cover his face out of embarrassment. your giggling turned into full blown laughter as you teased the poor boy in between breaths of air for getting red so easily. he softly muttered how at this rate, “you’re going to make me run out of a whole month’s supply of popsicles in a single night.” your laughter increasing at his statement had him lightly rolling his eyes before reattaching his hand to yours, syncing your footsteps again while you two strolled around the harbor.

your light kick against his shin had him mischievously lowering his book so you could see the twinkle in his eye. you rolled over next to him as you scoffed at the title. “a maiden’s love, huh? since when were you so interested in romance?” you prodded as a single eyebrow rose to look at him. “oh you know, just expanding my knowledge is all. now shhh, i’m trying to concentrate.” he responded while hiding his smile beneath his book. your sound of indignation accompanied with another light kick to his shin had him grasping your foot, yanking you towards him. the sudden yelp you let out as you softly landed against him had him chuckling before returning to grasp for his book. you quickly moved to push the book out of his reach while glaring at him slightly. “you hate romance. you think romance books are written horribly. why the sudden interest, hmm?” your question prompted him to dramatically lean against the tree droning on about how you, “wounded his poor mortal soul” and “only the greatest of poets can grasp the complexity of the human heart.” you rolled your eyes before sitting properly on his lap, going through your list of commissions for tomorrow. he wrapped his arms around you before divulging his little secret.

so one night, he's hanging on the rafters of a house with the perfect view of your singing

everything goes smoothly, he sets his spear down while lightly swaying his head to the music

the concert ends and fans disperse after you say your farewells

a night like this is rare since for once, xiao can walk home w you back to the inn sweet boy really cleared out his schedule for you huh

you're unsurprised when you see him materialize next to you, opting to flash him a smile and a hello

his cheeks are lightly flushed as he crosses his arms before talking quietly about how well you did

he relishes in the wide smile you give him as a result of his praise and he lets the corners of his lips curve upwards slightly

the quiet bustle of the harbor seemed to slow down as the night grew longer

since this was a fairly large concert, you had boxes among boxes of equipment so xiao decided to make your life easier by quickly flying them to their appropriate locations

when he got back however, he was surprised to see you talking animatedly with someone

he didn't think anything was wrong until he saw the person trap you between the stage and words filtered into his ears

your back was painfully pressed against the stage wall as you defiantly met their gaze. after xiao had left, they had immediately come over to you: first introducing themselves as a fan and making amiable conversation, before divulging in personal details of your life that made your skin crawl. you weren’t helpless, you always had your weapon on hand regardless of whether you were performing or not. the way they pushed you against the wall however, made it near impossible to summon your sword should you need it. 

they leered down at you while balancing an arm against the wall next to your head. you had dealt with things like this before so you weren’t overly worried; you could defend yourself. you almost felt pity for the person in front of you as they asked for your number with a sadistic grin, disgusting words tumbling off of their lips. however, that was before you felt their cold fingers idly make their way to your stomach and you felt your breath hitch. oh no

the telltale sound of whooshing alerted you of xiao’s presence, and the press of the tip of his spear against their jugular brought you relief. 

“back away” he tightly growled while his golden eyes narrowed into slits. they stared at him in shock before holding their hands up and moving to step a foot away from you. 

“farther” he motioned with his spear before stepping in front of you as you attempted to collect yourself. 

“ok ok, i’m far away can you put your spear down now?” 

“no.” 

you mentally cursed as you watched the two of them glare at each other. this was supposed to be a carefree night but this unfortunate twist made the air thick with tension. you could feel the anger radiate off of xiao in waves and in an effort to deescalate the situation, you spoke. 

“i’m glad to meet such an...avid fan but i’m sorry the two of us must get going now” you hastily said before attempting to grab xiao’s hand and walk off past them. 

the next words had you halt your steps as they divulged their secret. 

words painted in careless arrogance with hints of violet overconfidence flew out of the person’s mouth - “judging from the weeks i’ve been following you, it didn’t seem like you had a boyfriend”

at the mere mention of prolonged stalking, xiao immediately lunged to pull you behind him. god, he didn’t kill mortals but he swore if he plunged his spear into this human being right here, no one would even blink twice considering how low of a person they were. 

“if i ever see you near them again, i will not hesitate to kill you. i won’t blink twice, i already have blood on my hands.” he ground out.

at the threat, the person grudgingly turned their back to you before leaving the two of you alone in the quiet harbor. 

you carefully reached a hand out to touch your boyfriend’s shoulder, but stopped after you saw the expression on his face. the mix of rage, sadness, and anguish imprinted his features as you watched his chest rapidly rise and fall - a result of his emotional battle. 

“i’m sorry i didn’t notice them before. i should’ve been paying more attention to you” he whispered before silently striding away from your grasp 

you knew that no matter how many reassurances you gave him about how, “it’s not your fault xiao, i didn’t notice them either” he would still blame himself. 

he was supposed to protect you right? so why couldn’t he sense the danger beforehand? what would’ve happened if he wasn’t there?

it’s still a learning process for him to realize that things happen, and he inevitably couldn’t be there to save you from everything. he needs time to understand and adjust. you’re willing to wait, patiently helping him through it. why? because love is worth it.

you always flash him the sweetest smile and this man blushes like CRAZY before quickly lifting his hand up to give you a thumbs up

he doesn’t pry because it’s addressed to you and it’s your business but as the letters start coming by everyday, he starts to grow curious 

one day he straight up just asks you about it

“hey, you know those pink letters you keep getting? who are they from?”

you laugh slightly at his bashfulness and respond with a “just some overexcited fan” and he smiles before kissing your forehead 

he loves that people are noticing your talent 

loves it! until you get stalked by the same person who wrote you those letters while you were shopping!

diluc knows something’s wrong when you rush into angel’s share panicked after not returning his usual smile. 

“darling? are you ok?” he asks worriedly before quickly setting down the glass he was cleaning to move towards you. 

the widening of your eyes as you looked behind you at the sounds of someone else entering was all he needed to swiftly step in front of you, blocking their gaze of your face. 

the slightly panicked look in your eyes before you hurriedly whispered, “they’re following me” made diluc glance at them subtly out of the corner of his eye. he watched as they walked over to find a seat next to the bar, seemingly ready to order a drink. he quietly asked if you would like to sit in the room reserved for the employees, away from their prying eyes. your hasty nod was all the confirmation he needed for him to let you access the door behind him. 

the night went by fairly smoothly with kaeya’s usual teasing and venti’s usual begging for alcohol. diluc’s eyes narrowed however, when the person seemed to ask him questions regarding you. things like, “i heard you’re dating y/n... they’re amazing, how long have you been together?” and “do they live with you at dawn winery?” diluc answered these questions as short as he could, trying to convey with his body language that he truly did not want to talk to them. 

everything was going well until he made the mistake of leaving the bar unattended. he had briefly forgotten about your residence in the room behind him as his mind immediately gravitated to breaking up a brawl. when he returned, the half drunk glass of liquor combined with the person’s absence from their seat, caused sparks of worry to light up inside his chest. 

turning to the door, he knocked once. 

“is everything alright in there love?”

the sounds of things rustling about and the occasional muffled voice had him opening the door quickly. he saw you with your arm being held tightly in their grasp, your mouth muffled with their hand, while you strained against them by pulling at your arm. 

diluc immediately made his way over to you, quickly pulling your arm away before letting you enter into his embrace. 

“get out.” the venomous words clawed their way out of his throat as he looked at them with eyes that screamed hatred. his blood was boiling as his mind replayed the scene; your scared expression and their greedy eyes. 

diluc didn’t need to repeat himself twice as they ran out, trying not to trip over crates of wine. he made a mental note to find out who they were in order to make sure they never came near you ever again. 

he quickly looked down at your form, relaxing slightly at the sight of your tentative smile. “my knight in shining armor” you joked before softly nuzzling your head into his shoulder. the anger had yet to dissipate from his veins, and although he knew you were still shaken up, he was sure you would be fine. 

a pink letter placed on the table next to you caught his eye, and he made sure to quickly pocket it as he led you out, gently jesting with you about the “unnecessary amount of wine barrels in here, diluc this is a safety hazard!” 

he would deal with this person later.

bc did they not know who he was??? the fact that they thought they could get away with holding you captive was quite honestly kind of funny to him 

very stressed and angry tho - hides it behind a facade of smiles but he’s raging 

takes him only a few hours to track you down bc he had everyone and i mean EVERYONE looking for you 

the note crunched in his hand as the harbinger made his way towards windrise. his pace was erratic, long legs rushing towards the small cave his agents had found. they were bordering the perimeter of the enclosure, careful to not alert you or your captor of their presence. childe’s subordinate head had calmly stated that childe need not come out to rescue you, the situation was under control and they could do it for him. however, childe’s sharp gaze along with his sickly sweet words of “thanks but no. i’m coming out to see this sorry asshole for myself” had the agent backing away apologizing. he wanted to see the look on this person’s face before he shoved their sorry ass into the abyss himself. 

as he reached the opening of the cave, he glanced over his shoulder at his head agent; a silent warning to keep the area sealed. his blue eyes glinted with a thirst for blood before making his way into the cave, sealing off the exit with his body. 

“well well, playing games with the love of my life are we?” 

his teasing words reached your ears as your eyes immediately found the face of your boyfriend. you weren’t horribly scared, just a little shaken up and sore from the bindings on your wrists. relief coursed through your body at the sight of him. you needn’t put in your plan of getting out of these bindings to fight your captor yourself anymore. 

childe’s eyes quickly scanned over your frame, making sure you weren’t hurt. at the state of you completely unharmed, the harbinger let his heart calm down slightly. you were completely ok. 

“wait a little longer, love? i promise this will be over soon”

the wink he sent you had you lightly rolling your eyes at his antics before he directed his attention back to your kidnapper. if your captor wasn’t scared before, they were certainly shaking in their boots now at the sight of childe’s twin hydro blades rotating playfully in his hands. 

“listen, all i want is the money-”

“and all i want is your head” 

your boyfriend smiled after cutting them off. the severity of the situation truly seemed to sink in at that moment before pleas of mercy fell from your captor’s lips, desperate to escape the bloodthirsty gaze of the harbinger. childe’s eyes flickered over to yours where you sat there, with your head ferociously shaking. a silent “no.” he sighed before swiftly bringing his arm up to hit your captor on the head, effectively knocking them out cold. 

his hands worked at the ropes holding you and he gingerly rubbed at your bruised wrists. you silently thanked the archons he could never say no to you. archons forbid what would've happened if you hadn’t said anything. while you were explaining what happened, the young man quickly scooped you up in his arms before walking out of the cave. 

you playfully hit his shoulder while muttering “drama queen” but you stopped when you saw his face morph into an expression of seriousness. you had informed him on the situation about your captor revealing themselves to be a recent stalker of yours, completely oblivious to the look of frustration on his face as he freed you from your bondages. 

“i was scared you know.” he quietly divulged. “i knew that it wasn’t anything extremely serious but i... i was still scared”

you swore as you looked at him in that moment, he had turned ten again. the youth of his face betraying his vulnerability. 

you quietly hummed before tangling your fingers in his hair. “i hope you know it wasn’t your fault. it wasn’t anyone’s fault. not even the two fatui agents who you sent to stalk me while you were away.”

he quietly laughed at that before mentally filing away a reminder for a lecture to those two agents in the near future. 

“i’m just glad you’re safe. i know you can save yourself but i’ll always be here. i still wish you would let me take care of your asshole kidnapper myself though.” he pouted jokingly. 

“i’m sure the millelith will lock them up for a long time.” you laughed sweetly.

oH on the topic of comfort, kaeya really likes resting two fingers on the back of your neck???

ik he seems like the type to throw his arm around your shoulder which yes he totally is but during more serious conversations his hand automatically seeks out the warmth of your neck 

your neck feels amazing especially during the warmer months due to his chilly fingers contrasting with your warm skin

a soft smile adorned his face as he swiftly navigated the streets of liyue with his tell tale swagger. stall owners all turned to watch the harbinger as he paid them no mind, determined to get to his destination. usually, he would stop by certain stalls and make small talk while relishing in the slight fear and upright posture his presence conjured up in the owners. today however, he had places to be. 

the place in question? he needed to see you. your friendship with xiangling had to be one of his favorite friendships of yours, aside from the trio you formed with zhongli. the sweet natured girl always seemed to drag you off on some culinary adventure which left your heart happy and his stomach full. today was no exception; before leaving this morning, you had pecked childe on the lips and asked him to stop by wanmin restaurant later. he had teased back with a “of course, looks like someone misses me after a few hours ~” to which you promptly smacked him on the back of his head. you had been planning this trip with xiangling for a while now so he was excited to see what new dish you would have him taste this time. 

when he got to the entrance, he sent a quick “hi” to chef mao before venturing inside. the kitchen was bustling with activity - xiangling on the stove while you chopped up various ingredients to add into the bubbling concoction. taking a quick survey of your appearances, childe noticed that your clothes were dusted with dirt and slime condensate, indicating that you had just recently gotten back from your ingredient hunting. a sweet hum left his lips as he lightly let out, 

“wow, what’s all this?”

xiangling jumped at the sound of his voice, squeaking while whipping around and subsequently crashing into you. childe’s rich peals of laughter could be heard echoing off the walls as the both of you laid on the floor comically, your apron folded over your face while xiangling had lettuce in her hair. 

“when you’re done laughing, care to help us up?” your annoyed voice spiraled up from the ground. still giggling he reached his hands out for both of you, easily pulling you to your feet. his fingers interlaced themselves into yours after fixing your apron. 

“hello childe! sorry, you scared us! we were so lost in cooking we didn’t even notice you come in!” xiangling chirped while stirring the pot. 

“oh don’t worry, it was very entertaining to see you two fall” he smirked while bringing his hands to come around you in a back hug. you scoffed at him but leaned into the warmth he provided. “besides, i can’t wait to try whatever crazy combo you’ve come up with today.”

“definitely the craziest! but i can promise it’s finger lickin’ good!” xiangling responded before moving to plate the food. 

“it’s hoarfrost core kebabs today” you informed him while absentmindedly tracing the cut from the fight. noticing, he replaced your fingers with his own before chuckling and moving to stand next to you in order to peak into the plate. you could practically hear him salivating as his eyes sharpened with a focus he got on the battlefield. 

“enjoy!” xiangling smiled before handing the plate to him and moving to stand next to you. childe was always the number one person you went to if you needed a taste tester. your boyfriend was always so keen to get involved in whatever you loved to do and crazy food combinations with xiangling was no exception. surprisingly, he had a good palate as well. instead of just eating the food, he gave you good feedback, acutely pinpointing on certain flavors and textures that melded together. you had accumulated this newly discovered trait under the category of “fatui things.”

as childe bit into the dish, both you and xiangling watched him wide eyed, eager for a response. you noticed his cheeks puff out as he chewed with a quizzical expression. his eyes lit up before he swallowed, conveying all you needed to know. 

“this has to be one of your best dishes yet, who thought hoarfrost core and boar would go so well together?”

the awe in his voice was apparent as he eagerly bit down on the kebab once more, sweet hums of delight filling the air as he closed his eyes while chewing. 

as you and xiangling watched the harbinger scarf down the food like a starved man with glowing cheeks, you felt your heart swell.
