If you know someone with cancer, you might already be aware that cancer patients don’t appreciate sympathy. No one likes to be felt sorry for, especially when they’re dealing with something so hard. Along my path when I was an oncology nurse, administering chemotherapy 5 days a week, I met tons of cancer patients. So many of them would complain about how everyone always treated them differently when they were going through treatment. Some even chose not to tell friends or family that they had cancer because they didn’t want their sympathy. My mom in particular, when she was battling breast cancer, once told me that the sympathy cards she’d received made her feel like she was already dead.
