I know that it's controversial because of the age gap. I like Ship™ them? but also in a platonic way?? I headcanon Luffy as ace so it's more to me about their connection. he moved the world (read that as destroyed Enies Lobby, a beloved outpost of the World Government) just to save her. she found worth in his (and the crew's) love. she stopped running because he proved to her beyond a shadow of a doubt that he wanted her as part of his crew. he said to her, "Say you want to live!" 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 it's so beautiful.

don't get me started on how fun their dynamic is! he loves to explore and she enables him no matter what. she is always pleased to make room for his childish misadventures, like when they explore Thriller Bark and kill the dragon on Punk Hazard. Luffy is fascinated by her knowledge and consults her with unwavering trust. ALSO Luffy is the rudest person ever and Robin is so formal and polite to a fault. that's pretty funny to me.

obviously their age difference is weird and Luffy loves the whole crew equally. I can't picture them in a traditionally romantic relationship but that doesn't mean I don't think they have a special connection that deserves to be explored. also, can we stop calling Robin the "Mom Friend"????? she is the least mom-coded female character like ever. it's just because people ship her with Franky and want to call them the parents of the crew. be fr please 🙏 not MyRobin.

oh and bonus story time! when I was like fourteen, my local library only had up to volume 40 or so of One Piece. I asked when we would get more and the staff was like, "Oh well you can request it on the computer but we don't know when they'll buy more." when I tell YOU THAT IT WAS SUCH AGONY TO BE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF ENNIES LOBBY WITH NO IDEA WHEN I WOULD GET TO READ THE REST I am not exaggerating. what misery. and don't tell me, "Bruh you should have just read it online." girl HUH?? I did not know that online manga existed. I was kinda lame lol

but, basically, I attribute me shipping Luro with this Canon Event in my life. I was INVESTED in the emotional stakes of Luffy choosing to rescue Robin above anything else. and I was a kid so my understanding of minor/adult was kinda skewed. since I was in an eternal state of purgatory waiting for the next volumes, I had unlimited time to dream up scenarios. I don't remember how long the wait actually was only that it felt like eternity.

I'm way behind on One Piece now. the last arc I read was........Punk Hazard? who knows. it's been a long time. I'll read the rest someday. I can't stand waiting for ongoing things when there are cliffhangers. you can't spoil anything for me, though. I've been online too long for that.
