‘ nothing important worth repeating, i reckon- go and talk to one of your house’s perfects instead. i don’t have time to go over this with you again.’ victoire replied with a shrug and turned to look back down at her notebook.

“don’t be such an arsehole, love, ” lucy crossed her arms, cocking her head to the side. “the last time i checked, the hat sorted me into ravenclaw.” pointedly, she eyed the other’s colour-coded necktie.

   Corvus stared at her as if he did so then she’d break and tell him what the hell was going on inside her head because now he was irked. If he did something, he wanted to know what it was because he hated these stupid guessing games. There was a moment of silence before he reached for the vial and picked it up but before handing it to her, he decided to ask again.  “You’re lying.” 

lucy’s frowned deepened at the accusation; she knew, deep down, that corvus was right. at times, he could read her like an open book—was she going to give him the satisfaction of being right? absolutely not.

Corvus really didn’t understand why she was being much more snippy with him than usual. He hadn’t really spoken to her much since their return from Hogsmeade so if she had an issue with him, it was unknown to him what he did. He stopped before reaching the vial and made direct eye contact with her without faltering.  “Did I do something or did you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?” 

lucy visibly bristled, “you didn’t do anything,” she answered tightly, only glancing up at the hufflepuff before glowering back down at the cauldron. it wasn’t that she was in a sour mood, it was corvus’ incompetence that was irritating—and she totally wasn’t pissed at him for getting all chummy with some bloody girl at the library.

valentino laughed, nudging her back, a malicious glint in his eyes. “you’re right. i was always destined to be an actor,” he joked, still snickering. “honestly though, the number of people that have asked if i’m alright is downright delightful.”

scorpius was shaken out of his thoughts when lucinda called his name, and he blinked, shooting his housemate a small, tired smile. “huh? yeah, i’m fine… just uneasy with everything that’s going on. you alright?”

    Ximena used to feel guilt for how she could act but slowly with time, she stopped really caring how people perceived her. She wasn’t fond of being questioned and plus, she had no answers to really give.     “Maybe they’ll learn to stay in their dorms when they’re supposed to.” She shrugged and glanced over at her, “Speaking of, why are you up and about?” 

he stopped walking and turned to look at his friend almost as if she had grown a third head. “my coat?” balthazar asked making sure that he had even heard her right. his coat? “i can’t tell if you are fucking with me right now, luc…” he said before shaking his head and continuing on their walk, hands in the said so stylish jacket pockets. “christmas gift from my dad last year…why?”

balthazar’s reaction was comical. lucy fought back a laugh, “do i look like i’m fucking with you?” she genuinely liked balthazar’s coat, though. “it’s very chic—a classy chic. your father has great taste.”

“for sure,” lucy commented, falling silent as she shifted her attention back to her book. there was nothing else to talk about; she may be in a good mood, but she wasn’t patient enough to listen to the other’s concerns.

“Well I’ll…get out of your hair. Maybe I just need to sleep these worries away or something. I don’t think I’ll get any work done anyways…” Piper said softly, still not being able to shake her concern. “Thank you again.” She started to gather her things, hoping that maybe on the way to her common place she could find something to distract her mind. 

thirty minutes had passed since they began brewing a pot of wiggenweld potion, but lucy remained persistently silent, only speaking when absolutely necessary. when corvus reached for the vial of flobberworm mucus, lucy scoffed in annoyance.

“oh, scorpius. i nearly didn’t see you, love,” lucy greeted, icy blue eyes scanning the slytherin up and down. “you look rather distracted. is everything alright?”

Cainan was pulling the last of his newest haul out of his knapsack when he heard the door to the broom closet creak open further, moving from the slit he’d left it at to wide open. Turning, a bottle of daisyroot draught in hand, he looked to the doorway and the person standing there with a half-smile. “Welcome to my office. You know the rule, close the door.” He stood taller, nodding towards the entrance. The only way to keep his practice going was to keep some level of secrecy. Changing locations helped. But avoiding the obvious missteps was key. “So what’ll it be? Interested in something or just here for me?” Cainan asked, adding a cheeky wink.

the moment lucy’s eyes landed on cainan’s shit-eating grin, she instantly regretted pushing the creaky old door open.

   Ximena didn’t really know what was going on. Despite the outrage, prefects were not told the circumstances of the situation with the message in the Great Hall. She did not liked to be questioned however. “Ezekiel is none of your concern and I do not need to answer to you. The situation is being handled. Now head back to your common room before I deduct house points. I will not ask again. It is well past curfew.” 

lucy waited for the frightened-looking second years to scurry off before approaching the slytherin, a hint of a smile on her face.

“That’s true…and people always talk about how they wish they had a day or two longer to explore.” Piper tried to continue on, wanting to do anything to relax her mind. She let out a breath and returned the smile. “Thank you…it is just so easy to get worried.”
