Dany, her furs, and Jon
So I’ve noticed a pattern in season 7. We know that the furs were made part of her attire partly to indicate her growing closeness to Jon. I see that in general, ever since 7x04, Dany does not wear furs when she safely knows she and Jon are generally in the same vicinity (for a while, i.e. a decent length of time etc.), but wears them whenever they are separated for a length of time. This pattern generally holds.
7x04 Cave Date. Jon is around Dragonstone and so is Dany. No separation. No fur.
7x04 Loot Train battle. Separated. Fur.
7x05 returning after a separation (so not generally around each other)
7x05 in Dany’s Council. Both on Dragonstone for a while. Not separated. No fur.
7x05 farewell scene. Both have been on the island. Not separated. No fur.
7x06 Leaving to save Jon and co. Have been separated. Lots of fur.
7x06 Riding in to save Jon and co., same attire as before, not around each other for now.
7x06 on her boat. Jon has been sleeping and she’s there. Not separated. No fur.
7x07 Arriving in King’s Landing. They arrive by different means and are separated, so fur.
7x07 Both safely back at Dragonstone. Not separated. No fur
7x07 “We sail together”, on the same boat. Obviously not separated, so no fur.
7x07 No comment needed.
Ever since ‘Truth’ first played in the last Jon x Dany interaction (pictured below), this pattern seems to have held.
In fact, I think there is only one exception and that is the following scene in in 7x06:
And what is happening in that scene? Dany is doubting Jon’s feelings for her and denying their existence. I suspect his rather muted response to her at the end of 7x05 may have caused this.
As such, being the Jonerys trash that I am, I’d like to think that in general Dany subconsciously gravitates to fur when spatially separated from Jon for some length of time as it reminds her of him/make him feel closer.

Similarities between Jonerys and Reylo
As the popularity of the paring between Kylo Ren/Ben (KRB) and Rey of Jakku (aka Reylo) increases among the Jonerys fandom there have been some questions as to why, those of us who ship both, find similarities between these two couples (I know Reylo is not a couple, yet, but I’ll refer to them as such for the purposes of this mini-meta).
If you are looking at these two couples and try to make a one-to-one comparison between the two, you’re not going to find it. Jon isn’t KRB and Dany is Rey or Jon isn’t Rey and Dany isn’t KRB. Not only are these stories geared towards different audiences, they are a different genre and are going about their storytelling in different ways. A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones is a political and personal drama told through the lens of medieval fantasy. While Star Wars is a fairy tale told through the lens of a Sci-fi Space Opera Western.
The similarities I’ve noticed are of a thematic and symbolic kind and although the individual character have some similarities between each other, the real similarities are seen when looking at the paring as a whole and how they are presented to us throughout the story. This is based on my interpretation of both these couples, others might view things differently. Eventually, I would like to expand on these similarities but for now, I’ll do a quick run through of the similarities I’ve noticed between the two pairings.
Balance
This is not an uncommon theme in stories but it’s central theme of both these tales. A Song of Ice and Fire, of the bat we know that this story is about two opposites either coming together in battle or love or both. Ice and Fire or Water and Fire are two elements that sit opposite from one another. Our central characters Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow are representatives of these opposing elements and many of us believe that through their union the balance lacking from Westeros will finally be achieved.
On the other hand, we have Star Wars whose central theme is the balance of the Force between the light and the dark. In this trilogy, these opposing forces are represented by Rey of Jaklu and Kylo Ren, aka Ben Solo. When they are first introduced they are on opposite sides of a war that has been raging for a few generations. Rey becomes KRB’s prisoner but soon proves to be a true challenge for him. Her strength in the Force is equal to his, something he has not encountered before. “Darkness rises and light to meet it,” says Snoke, insulating the divide between the two but it also insinuates a coming together of the two.
Generational Saga
The other big theme in both these stories is that of the current generation reckoning with the mistakes of their ancestors. Although ASoIaF revolves primarily around the House Stark, the expanded world of Ice and Fire revolves around House Targaryen and it is their actions throughout their history of ruling that have shaped Westeros to what it is today. On the other hand, Star Wars is the generational saga of the Skywalker family and how their connection to the Force has shaped the galaxy.
Pretty much everything that has happened in ASoIaF can be traced to past mistakes and the most immediate of those are the actions of The Mad King, Aerys Targaryen and those of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. The event surrounding the doom romance and Aerys actions throughout are what has led us to the current predicament our protagonist find themselves in at the beginning of the story. Although many things have happened throughout the course of the series, we see Jon and Dany confronted with the mistakes of the immediate and not so immediate ancestors. Dany facing the slave trade promulgated by the Valyrians and Jon facing the consequences of the exiling of the Free Folk to beyond the Wall. Both of these characters not only have to fix the past mistakes and by doing this they are forgiving a new path, a third way if you will.
In the case of Star Wars, it all started with the doomed love of Anakin and Padme. Their love, described as possessive, lead to Anakin’s downfall and the emergence of Darth Vader and all the chaos it brought to the galaxy. Luke was able to help his father redeem himself, however, the darkness still remained and now Anakin’s grandson KRB has inherited that legacy. His return to the light will finally heal the wound his grandfather created. And who best to help Ben redeem himself than his counterpart within the force Rey.
Mirrored Couples
One additional element to the generational saga piece is how both Jonerys and Reylo mirror couples an important couple that was integral to the beginning of the story. In the case of ASoIaF, I’ve often said that Rhaegar and Lyanna’s union brought war, while Jon and Dany’s will end the war.
In the case of Star Wars, the love Anakin had for Padme was possessive and the fear of losing her drove him to the dark side of the force. The compassionate love that Rey offers to Ben will turn him from the dark to the light, also ending the war between the First Order and the Rebels.
Yin and Yang
This is an obvious visual similarity between these two pairings. In ASoIaF the most overt example of this is the coloring of Jon and Dany’s animal familiars. Drogon’s black to Ghost’s white with just the slightest hint of red. Through the TV series, we see this visual yin yang represented by the filters used in filming to characterize Jon and Dany’s story. In Jon’s case, we see the more muted blues and Dany the bright oranges. This is representative of the Ice/Fire or Yin Yang of the story.
With KRB and Rey, the yin-yang symbolism is much more obvious, because the Force itself is defined as Light and Dark. We see this with whites and black playing against each other’s in most of their scenes together. In addition, you see the reds and blues of their chosen Force also used in contrasts with each other. There is a specific scene in The Last Jedi where Kylo goes from cold blues to the warm reds of Rey’s fire during one of their Force Bond sessions.
Social Status
This similarity is particularly interesting for me as it’s so typical of the fairy tale genre. While the truth of Jon’s parentage has been revealed to the audience the characters themselves (except for Bran and Sam) are completely ignorant to it. As far as the in-universe narrative is concerned we have a Queen who is decedent from generation after generation of kings and queens and falls in love with a bastard. Even as a bastard Jon is of noble heritage, however, the stigma of being a bastard has followed him throughout his life, but Dany never even mentions it nor does she bring it up to him. The perceived difference in their social status is not important to her or him.
While on the other hand, we have the dark prince of a Star Wars Ben Solo falling for a scavenger, whose parents were nobodies. There is a clear divide in their social standing. However, unlike Dany who just didn’t feel the need to address it, Ben Solo, and his severely lacking social skills, reared their ugly head. While reminding her she’s a nobody, he then very suavely adds, but not to him. Jokes aside, I do believe Ben thinks of Rey as someone whose special, and in the novelization of TFA we learn that Ben has compassion for Rey and is punished for it by Snoke.
So, while these couples are perceived by the outside world to be from two vastly different social status while the pairs themselves have or eventually will see past that.
Equals
Okay, I literally just talked about the differences in their social status and now I’m calling them equals. Yes, that’s exactly what I’m doing. To the outside world, there’s a firm difference in their place in society, however, for the couples themselves they perceive their counterparts as their equal.
Dany and Jon see in each other someone who understands the burdens of ruling, of leadership, of personal sacrifice for the good of their people. They see someone who can understand the burdens they carry because they themselves has carried it. In each other, they see their equal, something they have yet to have encountered.
For Rey and KRB is much more clearly stated because they are literally the Force counterparts to one another. Their skills and power come from the same well and one is just as powerful as the other. In fact, the scavenger Rey bested the elite trained KRB twice. She is his equal and he knows it, and that is something he admires in her.
The Greater Good
The books aren’t there yet, however, on the TV show we see Dang giving up her pursuits if the throne to go fight in the Great War against the Wight Walker. I think it’s important to note that Jon didn’t make the decision for her. He presented his case, poorly, but with the help of Tyrion and some super convenient and crazy events, Dany was able to see what really mattered.
This hasn’t happened yet in Star Wars but I believe that story is headed in the direction of having KRB turn his back on inter-galactic domination and help the Resistance to end the war
Rey presents KRB with the opportunity to turn toward the light but he’s not ready to take it. He’ll have to figure that out on his own and come to the decision on his own. But because Rey has shown him the way he knows there is a chance.
Loneliness
This is an important element for both these couples. Even though they are all special in their own way, for one reason or another all have felt isolated from their family and society. There is a deep loneliness for all of them which began in their childhood.
In Jon and Dany’s case, it’s loneliness but also isolation. For Jon, his status as a bastard kept him a step apart even from his family. Even those who loved him couldn’t change the fact that as a bastard he was viewed differently than them. For Dany, it’s her exile to a country where she has no connections except for her brother. As well as her poverty while still having the social status of a princess. She could never fit in and her lack of resources meant that she was unable to put down roots.
In the case, KRB and Rey is the lack of connection with others. KRB couldn’t connect with his father because Han couldn’t relate to Ben’s connection to the force. And while Leia could relate with Ben in that regard her work as a Senator and General kept her away. We all know that his connection to Luke ended disastrously and whatever connection to Snoke he has been one of control and abuse. For Rey, she was abandoned and left to the care of uncaring strangers. She has no connection to anyone when we meet her. She forms attachments quickly because of her deep loneliness.
Their Bonds
The loneliness they all feel, the sense of not belonging anywhere is the foundation for the bond that Jon & Dany and Ben & Rey form with one another.
Jon and Dany seek belonging and acceptance. They have felt so isolated for so long that they just want to feel that they have found a place or someone they can belong to, that they can be themselves with. They find that in each other because of their shared experiences as leaders but also because of their upbringing. Their journey, as I have written many times, parallel one another and this creates a unique bond between the two of them.
In the case of KRB and Rey, the deep loneliness they both feel is literally bridged by their Force Bond. We are being shown how connected they truly are when their shared Force allows them to see one another from across the galaxy. In fact, the connection is so strong that they are able to touch one another, even though they are millions of miles away from one another. In each other, they see someone who is in need of connection but not just any connection, a connection based on compassion. Regardless of their circumstances, they have compassion for one another and the pain they see in each other.
The Gray Zone
One of the most notable things about ASoIaF is the complexity of its characters and the different shades of gray among them. Our heroes, while fighting for a common good, have engaged in acts that are deemed controversial. They make mistakes and are far from perfect. However, at the end of the day, they are heroes, just grayer than usual.
For Star Wars the dichotomy between KRB and Rey is much starker. Rey is a hero; she chose the light side of the force and she does the right thing and fights for the common good. KRB is a villain, he’s chosen the dark side of the force and is fighting for his own ambition. However, I believe the story is making its way towards a creating a gray flawed hero in KRB. His actions will eventually help the war and redeem him.
There are other themes and similarities I see in between these characters but many of them are found in your standard protagonist on their path through the Hero’s Journey. But I think enough similarities exist between these two couples that it’s notable and interesting to discuss and understand better.

“Even this… Jon Snow.”
@violet-eyes-silver-hair is my brain lol
Ramin Djwadi gave a live performance on KCRW. He played a rendition of ‘Truth’, where he also added the main theme song into it. It almost sounds like The Song of Ice and Fire now.
Game of Thrones - Brotherhood by Andrew Domachowski
The Catspaw Dagger Belongs to Jon Snow
This is a theory about the catspaw dagger.
To refresh your memory I will mention all the facts we already know about the dagger from the show.
- We saw the weapon first in season 1 when the assassin was sent to kill Bran
- We know Catelyn fended the assassin off and took the dagger with her to King’s Landing to find out who sent it
- She brought it to Littlefinger who lied and claimed the dagger was Tyrion’s
- Little finger held it to Ned Stark’s throat in his big betrayal scene
- FAST FORWARD TO SEASON 7 = in the premier episode we see the dagger in a book about The Long Night that Sam was reading
- If you zoom in; this is exactly what it says: “|The Valyrians were familiar with dragonglass long before they came to Westeros. They called it "zirfyl perzfyl" [sic] which translated to "frozen fire" in Valyrian and eastern tales tell of how their dragons would thaw the stone with dragonflame until it became molten and malleable. The Valyrians then used it to build their strange monuments and building without seams and joints of our modern castles. When Aegon the conqueror forged his Seven Kingdoms, he and his descendants would often decorate their blades with dragonglass feeling a kinship with the stone. The royal fashion for dragonglass ornamentation soon spread throughout the Seven Kingdoms to those wealthy enough to afford it. Hilts and pommels were and are the most common decoration for dragonglass if too brittle to make a useful crossguard. Indeed, its very brittleness is what relegate it to the great houses and the most successful merchants.”
- In 7x04 Littlefinger gives the dagger to Bran who then gives it to Arya
Now for the theory… why is it so important? Why would they bring it back for Season 7 if it wasn’t crucial to endgame?
The question we must ask next is how the hell did Littlefinger get his hands on the dagger? We know Valyrian weapons are passed down from one generation to the next in great houses (for example Longclaw, Heartsbane, Ice, Oathkeeper…). Little finger owns no castles and made up his own House all for himself, the dagger wasn’t handed down to him by any legitimate means.
In the little paragraph from the book, it says that “When Aegon the conqueror forged his Seven Kingdoms, he and his descendants would often decorate their blades with dragon glass”. If the illustration is an example of a Targaryen decorated dagger, that would suggest that the Catspaw Dagger isn’t just a Valyrian steel weapon capable of being used against White Walkers (as if that isn’t special enough); its a TARGARYEN relic from the times of Aegon the Conqueror. Basically, it’s extremely unqiue because its made from both Valyrian steel and dragon glass, and it belongs to House Targaryen
Now, is it such a stretch to wonder if such an important dagger belonged to a key member of House Targaryen? None other than our guy Rhaegar?! He was the Dragon Prince, the heir to the throne, and if you look at the dagger, the hilt as a little red ruby on it. Rhaegar was known for his red rubies. The breastplate he wore when he died at the Trident was adorned with lots of rubies, and they sunk into the river when he fell. Dany even saw this when she was at the House of the Undying.
So... if the dagger was Rhaegar’s then the rightful owner of the dagger now would be Jon. (And if it wasn’t, then it still belonged to a Targaryen and so it should be either Jon or Dany’s. It could go either way).
We know from the books that in the past Littlefinger has brushed up against many a Targaryen... heck, he may have even been there at the Trident the day Rhaegar died. He must have been at the Tourney of Harrenhal as well; cuz who wasn’t there?! Rhaegar wasn’t fighting Robert Baratheon with the dagger obviously he needed to use a proper sword so really his dagger would have been lying around somewhere, an easy target for someone as intelligent as Bealish, who may have known about how valuable it is.
To finalize
This dagger belonged to the Targaryens; the theory is that it was Rhaegar’s and therefore should be Jon’s now
The dagger can kill white walkers, but Sam read about it in a book about the Long Night.. so maybe it has an even bigger role - i.e., killing the Night King? Especially if we mix the theory that Jon is Lightbringer or Jon is Azor Ahai (whatever, either one means Jon will end the Long Night). If the weapon that can kill the Night King is rightfully his, it is only more evidence that he is the one who is meant to kill the Night King. That he is the prince that was promised.
This can also be said for Daenerys if you think she is the princess that was promised, and that the dagger may be rightfully hers as much as it is Jon’s. It all depends on who truly owned it, but either way it is a Targaryen relic and should go to the last surviving Targaryens.
AND THEY WILL BRING THE DAWN!
To those who say Jonerys will never happen in the books, just a quick reminder Dany has been dreaming of him, even if she has not seen his face yet…
Lying abed in her narrow bunk, she found herself wondering how it would be to have a man squeezed in beside her in place of her handmaid, and the thought was more exciting than it should have been. Sometimes she would close her eyes and dream of him, but it was never Jorah Mormont she dreamed of; her lover was always younger and more comely, though his face remained a shifting shadow. Daenerys, ACOK
He was who he was; Jon Snow, bastard and oathbreaker, motherless, friendless, and damned. For the rest of his life –however long that might be– he would be condemned to be an outsider, the silent man standing in the shadows who dares not speak his true name
Jon, AGOT
The flames crackled softly, and in their crackling she heard the whispered name Jon Snow. His long face floated before her, limned in tongues of red and orange, appearing and disappearing again, a shadow half-seen behind a fluttering curtain.
Melisandre, ADWD
Jon’s face and presence is often referred to as being in the shadows, he’s always been the outsider, watching the Stark children play and even if he did play himself sometimes, he tried his best to avoid irritate Lady Stark, so he kept it to himself, as the bastard he was pained to be.
Melisandre’s visions of him, from R’hllor himself is described as Jon’s shadow hidden…It’s not SO subtle how he’s always referred to be hidden there.
A quick reminded that when he died, she listened to Ghost’s cries…from across THE NARROW SEA…
“Jon fell to his knees. He found the dagger’s hilt and wrenched it free. In the cold night air the wound was smoking. “Ghost,” he whispered. Pain washed over him. Stick them with the pointy end. When the third dagger took him between the shoulder blades, he gave a grunt and fell face-first into the snow. He never felt the fourth knife. Only the cold … “
Jon, ADWD
“Off in the distance, a wolf howled. The sound made her feel sad and lonely, but no less hungry. As the moon rose above the grasslands, Dany slipped at last into a restless sleep.“
Daenerys, ADWD
These chapters happen at the same time, how can Daenerys Targaryen, in Meeren, listen to Jon’s murder at the Wall, North of Westeros, if not for the bond they have…without ever meeting. Call it soulmates, fate, whatever you want. Martin does not use words he does not think necessary nor he adds information that the story does not need. If you ever read one his books, you’ll know he’s sharp and everything means something, even the puzzles and riddles thrown our way. Daenerys heard his soul, Ghost’s cries (perhaps his own, warg ones), and she felt sad over it, not even knowing why.
A reminder that when Dany was at the House of the Undying, she only saw important, relevant things. Not only to herself, but to the realm: the rape of Westeros, The Red Wedding, the madness of Aerys Targaryen demanding to burn Kings Landing, Rhaegar and Elia talking of Aegon and his promised song, the fake dragon (Faegon, am I right?), Hardhome, what her son’s future would have been like, White Walkers, Rhaegar’s murmuring a woman’s name right before he died (we all assume is Lyanna’s, I guess we’ll find out eventually), and there are others, but to me it means a lot that one of these visions is:
a blue flower growing from a chink in a wall of ice, filling the air with sweetness.
Daenerys, ACOK
Oh, she also sees the red door of the house she loved and she remembers growing up, and she believed it was in Braavos. She only had important sights for the realm and herself, yet she sees a blue flower growing at the wall (if you don’t think this means Jon Snow growing at the Wall, we can’t be friends and you can’t even read this, bye! JK haha…but come on, Lyanna is said to have loved winter roses, which are blue…the same ones that composed the crown Rhaegar Targaryen crowned her with, as The Queen of Love and Beauty at the Tourney of Harrenhal. Jon lives, works, serves at the Wall, it doesn’t get any more obvious than this, y’all…only if Martin wrote she saw a ‘hot northmen with gorgeous hair at Castle Black, really…”).
(whoever did this second gif, thank you so very much, this is beautiful <3)
So not only does this shows how important Jon is to the realm (remember how her visions are all important, not only to her but also to Westeros? *inserts my theory of them both being AA* But he’s also important to her, the flower is not just THERE, it also fills the air with sweetness, it pleases her. Do I need to say more?
This one is very meaningful if not very telling, to me. They both feel alone, like something is missing. One can even say “they feel alone cause they are alone”, but they were not. It almost feels like there is someone out there, a better match.
Beneath her coverlets she tossed and turned, dreaming that Hizdahr was kissing her … but his lips were blue and bruised, and when he thrust himself inside her, his manhood was cold as ice. She sat up with her hair disheveled and the bedclothes atangle. Her captain slept beside her, yet she was alone.
Daenerys, ADWD
Jon wondered where Ghost was now. Had he gone to Castle Black, or was he was running with some wolfpack in the woods? He had no sense of the direwolf, not even in his dreams. It made him feel as if part of himself had been cut off. Even with Ygritte sleeping beside him, he felt alone.
Jon, ASOS
their story is a never ending parallel.
Not to disrespect Ygritte, cause I think she was necessary to Jon’s growth. She was a great character and I do believe Jon loved her, at some point. But just like Daenerys, this love was not a choice, it was almost like a survival choice, they made the best out of a bad situation.
He had to be with Ygritte, or Mance would have killed him, he would not believe Jon had really deserted the Night’s Watch. Ygritte wasn’t Jon’s act of rebellion, like I once read at a meta, no, she was, at first, his sacrifice/way to fill his mission. But somewhere along the way, he fell in love with her, she was strong, funny, and she awoke the sexuality in him. Again, he had to be with her, to prove himself, but it also wasn’t like he didn’t like it.
Daenerys loved Khal Drogo? Yeah, but it was as forced as was Jon and Ygritte. One can say it was even worse for she did not go willing, she was pushed into it, sold like a slave, to get her brother an army (we do have to thank karma cause his army never came, boo-ya, sucker!). She was given to a stranger, a savage (comparing to her culture; it’s funny even to see the parallel here, both had to be with people that are considered savages, wildlings where they come from) in return of an army, and she made the best of her situation, she learnt his language, his manners, bore his child (even if the baby never came to live), she fell in love with him cause for the first time in a very long time (or forever?), she was treated with care and love (the way Drogo knew how to love) by the man in her life.
A sweet reminder of how Daenerys thinks of her family and how she would have married Rhaegar’s son, had he lived. Rhaegar’s son, who’s Jon’s daddy again?
Plus, we’ve seen on the show that Jon was named Aegon Targaryen too, we do not know if he will have the same name on the books but I honestly do not think they would change something so important.
So, just another beautiful “easter egg” to ya:
Five Aegons had ruled the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. There would have been a sixth, but the Usurper’s dogs had murdered her brother’s son when he was still a babe at the breast. If he had lived, I might have married him. “
Daenerys, ADWD
Who says you still won’t, sweetie? Hold on, Melisandre will bring him back or he was warging Ghost, let’s just wait a bit longer, okay?
Their journey is a never ending parallel, and their path is clearly to each other.
I don’t think the history is called ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ without a cause, Jon may be blood of the dragon, but he’s also a Stark, and Daenerys is a Targaryen through and through…
*the lord of light aka george r.r. martin speaks through melisandre*
I’m back to reading the books and even if I’m still at AGOT, I just felt like making this, had a really bad day and making this made it a little better.

Daenerys,Queen in her own right
It is a little disingenuous that some parts of the fandom keeps comparing Dany to Queen Alysanne , when GRRM, the characters in ASOIAF and Dany herself compares Dany to Aegon the conqueror. Dany gets angry with Daario when he suggests she is a Queen consort. Dany is a Queen in her own right. She is not going to need a King to validate her claim.
Daario shrugged. “Most queens have no purpose but to warm some king’s bed and pop out sons for him. If that’s the sort of queen you mean to be, best marry Hizdahr.”Her anger flashed. “Have you forgotten who I am?” “No. Have you?“Viserys would have his head off for that insolence. “I am the blood of the dragon. Do not presume to teach me lessons.” When Dany stood, the lion pelt slipped from her shoulders and tumbled to the ground. “Leave me.” ( A Dance with Dragons - Daenerys IV)
Dany called the Dothraki around her. Fewer than a hundred were left. How many had Aegon started with? she wondered. It did not matter. ( A Game of Thrones - Daenerys X)
I have Ser Jorah and my bloodriders. And my dragons, never forget. In time, the dragons would be her most formidable guardians, just as they had been for Aegon the Conqueror .( A Storm of Swords - Daenerys I)
Aegon the Conqueror brought fire and blood to Westeros, but afterward he gave them peace, prosperity, and justice. ( A Storm of Swords - Daenerys VI)
Dany will be better than Aegon as she can control all three dragons, has the most powerful army in the world and has egalitarian views.
No one was calling her Daenerys the Conqueror yet, but perhaps they would. Aegon the Conqueror had won Westeros with three dragons, but she had taken Meereen with sewer rats and a wooden cock, in less than a day. ( A Storm of Swords - Daenerys VI)
GRRM in the first book itself have foreshadowed the KITN bending the knee to the dragons. Jon bending the knee is just practical.
The ancient crown of the Kings of Winter had been lost three centuries ago, yielded up to Aegon the Conqueror when Torrhen Stark knelt in submission .( A Clash of Kings - Catelyn I)
Why shouldn’t we rule ourselves again? It was the Dragons we bowed to and now the Dragons are dead! ( ep 1 x 10)
GRRM has compared Dany to Queen Nymeria:
In particular, given that Nymeria was a warrior-queen, is there a certain amazon tradition?
“The Rhoynar did impact Dorne in a number of ways, some of which will be revealed in later books. Women definitely have more rights in Dorne, but I would not call it an “Amazon” tradition, necessarily. Nymeria had more in common with someone like Daenerys.
GRRM about Queen Nymeria: “ her husbands were little more than councillors and consorts”. “Princess herself who held the true power .” In the books also GRRM have mirrored Dany’s & Nymeria’s journey.
Dany knew enough of Westerosi history to know that. Nymeria had landed ten thousand ships upon Dorne’s sandy shores, but when she wed her Dornish prince she had burned them all and turned her back upon the sea forever. (A Dance with Dragons - Daenerys VIII)
Dany needs men who she can trust. Tyrion is also going to be as important as Jon to Dany when they are forging a new system.
The dragon has three heads. There are two men in the world who I can trust, if I can find them. I will not be alone then. We will be three against the world, like Aegon and his sisters. ( A Storm of Swords - Daenerys VI)
Daenerys the heir to Seven Kingdoms, a layout:
The king technically had the power to name as his heir any of his offsprings, as Jaehaerys the Old King had by choosing Baelon over Rhaenys. With the birth of Viserys, Aerys had an option other than Rhaegar, to be declared as Prince of Dragonstone whenever he decides.
Aerys cursed the Dornish, certain that Lewyn had betrayed Rhaegar. He sent his pregnant queen, Rhaella, and his younger son and new heir, Viserys, away to Dragonstone. ( The World of Ice and Fire ) Following the Sack of King’s Landing and the deaths of Aerys, Princess Elia Martell, and the presumed deaths of Rhaegar’s children Aegon and Rhaenys, Viserys was declared king on Dragonstone. ( AWOIAF app) Whitebeard bowed his head. “It is not my place to question the words of Prince Viserys.” “King,” Dany corrected. “He was a king, though he never reigned. Viserys, the Third of His Name. ( A Storm of Swords - Daenerys I) “Viserys is dead. I am his heir, the last blood of House Targaryen. Whatever was his is mine now.” ( A Game of Thrones - Daenerys X)
Even smallfolk drink secret toasts to Daenerys the rightful Queen:
“The Stormborn. I recall her now.” Mollander lifted his tankard high, sloshing the cider that remained. “Here’s to her!” He gulped, slammed his empty tankard down, belched, and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “Where’s Rosey? Our rightful queen deserves another round of cider, wouldn’t you say?” ( A Feast for Crows - Prologue)
Having a child with Jon is not going to change her priorities as some parts of fandom claim. Sure she will be delighted at being able to secure a succession as a queen.
If I were not the blood of the dragon, she thought wistfully, this could be my home. She was khaleesi, she had a strong man and a swift horse, handmaids to serve her, warriors to keep her safe, an honored place in the dosh khaleen awaiting her when she grew old … and in her womb grew a son who would one day bestride the world. That should be enough for any woman … but not for the dragon. With Viserys gone, Daenerys was the last, the very last. She was the seed of kings and conquerors, and so too the child inside her. She must not forget.( A Game of Thrones - Daenerys VI)
The show has already made clear who is going to be the final contenders to the throne, its Cersei and Dany. Only they have the power and ambition to hold the throne. The trailers of season 7 have shown only them sitting on a throne not Jon. The music themes of ruling ‘ Reign ‘ and ‘ Shall we begin’ belongs to Dany. Even in season 6 when Jon became the KITN, the theme playing was ‘Winter has come’, while when Robb was declared KITN the theme was ‘ King of the North’. The episode director and Emilia Clarke have already said that the HoTU visions in the show is meant to be temptations from which Dany had to walk away. Its is not meant to foreshadow Dany not sitting on the throne. Dany may not sit on the Iron throne, but she is going to wear a crown and rule the Seven Kingdoms, possibly with help of an elected council.
In a narrative sense Dany’s role as a hero will be given prominence in season 8. GRRM and the show have been preparing Dany for the ultimate battle, giving her the most powerful armies and skill to control them. At the end of season 6 she talked about marriage, but the marriage is probably going to be at the end of season 8. Even though pregnancy is heavily foreshadowed , she may get pregnant only after the war.
In ADWD, GRRM has already foreshadowed Dany’s role in the order Queen, wife and mother. In the War of Roses also Henry Tudor( Dany) married Elizabeth of York( Jon) after assuming the throne. Dany’s priority is going to be the duty to her people. She can manage being mother of dragons and her people, children of her own is not going to upset that balance, she is good at multitasking.
A girl might spend her life at play, but she was a woman grown, a queen, a wife, a mother to thousands. Her children had need of her. Drogon had bent before the whip, and so must she. She had to don her crown again and return to her ebon bench and the arms of her noble husband. ( A Dance with Dragons - Daenerys X)
Dany has the most experience in ruling . She is multilingual, has connections to Essos , which will help in future trade relations. Westeros needs Dany, just like slaver’s bay needed Dany. After the Great War and war with Cersei, Westeros is not going to have enough resources to sustain themselves. It would be similar to the World Wars in which American capital helped Europe recover. Resources from Essos is going to be crucial in the post war period. Only Dany is able to provide that resources.

The white wolf raced through a black wood, beneath a pale cliff as tall as the sky. The moon ran with him, slipping through a tangle of bare branches overhead, across the starry sky. George R.R. Martin - ADWD
