Hey-o! I wanted to get something out today about my NaNo project, so here’s a moodboard for one of my main characters!

@theplantpoweredwriter asked for an update on the Steampunk Rapunzel WIP and I finally wrote this stupid scene that I kinda liked sooo… here is an excerpt! (Grammar mistakes are probably present; you’ve been warned)

Asahel couldn’t contain a loud scream when the ship trembled again. After being chased and fired at, the big flying boat was giving up. Luci grabbed the corner of the control table as to not fall when it shook again.

“We’re falling” it was obvious, but bad enough that Francis felt the need to say it out loud. “Asahel, we’re falling. You told us you were not let us die in a falling ship. Please, do not let us die in a falling ship” 

“He already told you he’s trying, you big dumbass” Lucille tightened her bag around her waist. suddenly, stealing that forsaken crown to show what she was capable of doing wasn’t wort it. At all.  

She should really put more emphasis on the word “trying”. It was difficult. He was sure that the balloon was about to rip and the wings had gave up moving a few cities ago. It was a miracle the ship was still flying, let along moving, but their luck was starting to run low. Or maybe it never existed, and the Lords had decided that they weren’t entertaining anymore. 

The city stretched beneath them. The early smoke was coming from one or another chimney on the houses, and the golden shadow of the sunrise was breathtaking. Francis, in his terrorized state, sent a silent apology for whatever house they would most definitely fall on. He closed his eyes. From a street rat to a decent little thief to an accidental murderer. Lords, his mom must be so proud that his face was on the news again, but this time has an imperial traitor. 

“ASAHEL!”

Luci’s heart was pounding so loud on her ears that her own scream seemed muffled. The clock tower. It rose in the center of the city, a construction that looked as old as the continent, as imponent as the Empress and Emperor themselves. Their only form of protection against the winged horrors that lurked in the creeks of the forests and canyons that formed their territory.

And it was directly in front of them, coming closer faster by the second.
