When did you first get into Linked Universe?

"Anywhere from the summer of 2020 to spring 2021. Or maybe even 2019, thanks to a Wattpad fic!"

Oh? Which fic!

"I couldn't say, unfortunately. I haven't used Wattpad in years. I remember it used the same Link names that LU does (Time, Twilight, etc), and the in-fic location was something accessed by stabbing the Master Sword into the ground, with the main character being Wild. I think there was a brief Majora plot point in there, too, but don't quote me on it, lol. So maybe-maybe not as to it being LU."

Do you have a favourite Link in the Chain? What makes them your favourite?

"It's so, so hard to pick a favorite, because I like all of them for different reasons. Statistically, I've probably done the most with Time + Legend, which makes sense - my first game was OoT - but I really am endeared by all of them. If I HAD to pick, solely based on how they're portrayed in LU, then Twilight, because of his dynamics with Legend and Time specifically. But again, they're all so endearing lol it's a tough choice!"

What themes and ideas do you most like to explore in relation to Linked Universe?

"On a more grounded sense, I love to explore the questions of 'What does it mean to be a hero?' and 'How does the hero label impact their self perception?'—both having been at least briefly touched upon in the main comic itself. But I also really like to just throw things at the wall and see what sticks. Sometimes it's a blend of both, which is how Requiem Legend came about!"

When did you first get into writing fanfiction?

"Oh, late 2023. For better or worse, everything's on my Ao3, if you're bold enough to venture there!"

What does your writing process look like? Is there anything specific that helps you write or conceive ideas?

"I write when the motivation strikes, and if the idea can keep me going. Sometimes, ideas are left as permanent wips… Though for the ones that eventually make it out of the doc, I usually have a second tab open to bullet-point the main story events that are coming up, so I don't lose track of where I'm at." Otherwise, I just go with the flow and edit as I write. Usually, if I like it, I will post it to Ao3. Once I get there, I'll do one final pass over it for spelling/grammar errors, paste it in (and add any effects, if need be), then post! I also will highlight the bullet points once I've passed them in the fic, so I still have access to them, but I can tell on a glance where I'm at. It helps for motivation too, like small step stones LOL"

Are there other media that inspire your fanfiction?

"For Req!Legend specifically, Searching For a World That Doesn't Exist played a huge role, plus my own genre favoritism. I'm sure all sorts of fandoms and lived experiences have subtly influenced my writing choices… Heaven Official's Blessing has to be up there, Voltron probably (for better or worse), etc., etc. All the fandoms that I mention on my blog are probably mixed into it, one way or another!"

Rather uniquely, one of your fanfictions, 'requiem for the illusory', explores themes of unreality and the interesting idea of what a character would think of being perceived as just that. What inspired that creative choice?

"Hmm... I think Req!Legend was a way to express my opinion on how a person would feel being ripped from everything they thought to be true. It's something that I'd like to explore more once I get the time (#finalss :dejected:). UTDR likely also played a part, now that I think about it, with the relationship between the Soul and Kris/Frisk."

What was the thought process behind making the fic interactive?

"Actually, I had been itching to do something interactive/4th wall breaking for a while - community interaction is practically a part of my ethos, lol, I love giving people the chance to engage in a little harmless fun. The Req!Legend fic gave me a good opportunity to do that!"

What do you consider when writing and drawing Legend's reactions and mood? How do you characterise him?

"Canon Legend might be a little different, but with Req!Legend I try to focus on him being a young teen who is, in his defense, used to having his world rocked all the time. He's fought Ganon + co. a whole bunch, after all. He's trying to be as adult as he knows how, because that's what he's done before in these high stress situations, he's trying to regulate and bottle things up at the same time, and also figure out wtf is going on now that he's being haunted by the Horrors (abstract). This is also really really difficult because the reader (i.e. horrors (abstract)) is always watching him. With time, his reaction very well might change, but for now, he's a bundle of stress and derealization trying to carry on with acting Adult because if he acts Adult, then he'll be able to handle it."

What do you plan to write about next, if anything?

"I don't have much planned at the moment, but I would like to at least continue with Req!Legend in the near (ish) future. I may also do some drabble? We'll see - I've already got a few late-night ones hidden away in my docs, I might compile them with future ones on one Ao3 fic? Who knows!!"

When did you get into Linked Universe?

"Around five years [ago]! I got Tumblr because of it!!

What specifically prompted that? An official post or a fanwork of some kind?

"I don't actually remember very well... I think it was a fanfic I came across while reading TLOZ ones!"

Do you have a favourite Link in the Chain? What makes them your favourite?

"My favorite for the past few years has been Legend! I relate to him on probably a scary level, and I usually latch onto characters like that! Time is up there in the same category as well."

What about the comic captures your heart the most? Is there a specific element that inspires your art?

"I think the concept of them all interacting and sharing their stories just sparked my interest!! [...] Yes!!! It's so interesting how their experiences have shaped them, and I love seeing them interact in such ways."

What does your art process look like?

"Oughhhh, my process changes depending on what I'm doing! Usually I sketch and then just color..."

Your art has a very traditional look despite being digital. I notice, more often than not, it emulates watercolour works. What do you think inspired that creative choice?

"I'm traditional based!!!! I've been drawing traditionally my whole life, and I actually am not very familiar with digital. Watercolor happens to be my favorite medium! [...] Ohh, the art is digital!! I just use traditional as my main medium. I tend to try my best to replicate a traditional feel and texture to my art. It feels a lot more home-y and comforting!!"

Any techniques or brushes you think work best for that?

"I usually use a default pencil brush!! That, and a watercolor/paint brush, are my go to."

How do you pick colours for your art? What do you consider when creating the composition for a piece?

"For composition, I try to find an interesting viewpoint and fill in empty space with any texture I can! I'll manipulate clothes to make a more interesting silhouette, such and such!! As for color, I fr just say 'fuxk it we ball.' I don't know wtf I'm doing fr"

Are there any art resources you've found helpful, past or present, to study?

"I don't really have the money or resources to buy anything, but I find it really useful to study everything around me!! Looking at people and observing the way the shadows and colors fall on their features, or staring intently at clothes/scenery to better understand the shapes that make up something!"

Are there any artists you look up to, either in the online space or IRL?

"Oiuhhhh, @kokirizeldas, @wardingshout, and @clowns0up-felix are artists I've looked up to for a while!! I'm still surprised I'm mutuals with all of them, lol, they're all very kind!!"

When did you get into Linked Universe?

"In the summer of 2022, I started delving into Zelda lore. In around December, I think, I found the Estrine Studios (RIP) dubs of Linked Universe. I had always sort of been aware of the Link's meet trope, but I didn't know there was a whole big comic about it. Anyways, I've been a fan ever since."

Do you have a favourite Link in the Chain? What makes them your favourite?

This is kinda embarrassing, but when I got into LU, I was in my Wattpad phase, and as such, I was reading a bunch of… Warriors/Reader fics. So, for the first month I was into LU, I think Warriors was my favorite. And my favorite Chain dynamic was Wild and Twilight, I think. Then, for a while, it was Four. At the time, I think I was also really in the Four Swords fandom, so I think that added to it. I just really liked Four's story, and I think my favorite color was Vio. So anyways, I read my first fic on AO3—I still remember it, actually. It's called 'know that water's sweet, but blood is thicker', and it's very peak. It was a Hyrule-centric fic, and then Hyrule was my favorite for a while as well as Downfall Duo. After a while, I just started really liking Legend and I started REALLY liking Ravioli and to this day Legend is one of my favorites and Ravioli is one of my favorite ships ever. And a couple of months ago, I started roleplaying as Wind, so now he and Legend are both my favorites."

What about the comic captures your heart the most? Is there a specific element that inspires your art?

"Hmm, this is a good question… I think what really draws me in are the character dynamics and just… the idea that the Links are literally strangers to each other, but find a way to work together. I know Jojo's inspiration from the comic is a media that shows different people from different walks of life working together, and I think she really captures that in her comic. As for the art aspect, I really admire the colors. I'm such a sucker for well rendered colors, it's insane. As well as the backgrounds! Oh my god, Jojo's art is so beautiful, and it makes me want to make my own comic like that"

Aside from Linked Universe, what else do you think inspired how you draw today?

"Ummmm, I usually draw inspiration from artists that I find through Linked Universe, like fanartists. Additionally, my older sister is a painter, so she often pushes me to experiment with a more painterly style of art."

What art program, if any, do you use? Any brushes or materials you recommend?

"I started out on Firealpaca with a touchscreen laptop, and I think that's honestly the best program to start on for beginners if you have a drawing tablet/touchscreen laptop. I'm NOT a good source for drawing tablet recommendations—I use an old Wacom Bamboo Capture that only works if you do the special ritual at 2:34 AM every new moon. As for brushes, I use Bristles-5 Glaze for my sketches and my more painterly rendering. I use Ink Pen (mypaint) for lineart/normal rendering. I also use screentones to add texture."

What does your art process usually look like?

"If I'm doing a big rendered piece, I'll start with multiple sketches and choose my favorite. Then, I'll block out flat midtone colors and use layer blending modes to make the colors look interesting and add basic shadows. After that, I'll just… start rendering. There really isn't a process to rendering; you just start in one place and keep on going till everything is rendered. I think of rendering as cleaning up and making everything look polished. After rendering, I add final details like screentones or little pops of complementary colors."

How long do you think you could hold your breath underwater if there was a cash prize of 14 dollars on the line?

"Maybe 38 seconds? 40 tops. I can't hold my breath very long."
