Lucky Break!

Thank you for your patience! Lucky Break! is now live and ready to play!

In order to keep the first release as controlled as possible, I ask that you join the Discord server linked in our description. That way, I can monitor the approximate amount of players who will be on the server. From the Discord, you will be able to access the IP and play on Lucky Break!

Lucky Break!’s first release features an enhanced survival experience with an RPG twist and gacha elements. Make towns, fight unique monsters, collect rare gear! Enjoy the fun familiarity of Minecraft SMP while trying out new mechanics! In the future, a STORY AREA will be added to the server.

There is an event active in the server currently to celebrate Chinese New Year! Cook and eat lots of moon cakes, and take on a powerful boss with your friends for awesome loot!

Lucky Break! encourages artists and creators to fulfill their wildest dreams on the server! Build your own world and show us your lore and characters! Who knows — maybe your stuff will be added as monsters/NPCs/etc.!

I’m glad to announce that the Discord is open for Lucky Break! This has been such an adventure, and I’m so excited to share this with you all!

What an adventure development has been!

Hours upon hours of work have been put into every detail of the server — from world generation, to backend mechanics, to the RPG experience. Check out the world generation in this clip!

A few features have been pushed for a future update so that the release of the server arrives much sooner. This includes classes, weapon skins and the story map.

Lucky Break! will have its first release (enhanced survival, rpg elements) on FEBRUARY 12th! Almost everything is in place, so I’m confident in this release date! Lucky Break! will run on Minecraft Java 1.16.5, but players still on 1.16.4 will also be able to join!

Players who wish to join the Minecraft server are EXTREMELY ADVISED to join the Discord server. This is to make tracking bugs and initial player count much easier. The Discord server link will be shared when the server is released. If you do not have Discord and would like to join the Minecraft server, the IP will be released publicly after the server has stabilized!

Decided to make a new “promo post” with more accurate and up-to-date information about what’s to come in the first release!

Lucky Break! is a 1.16.4 (soon 1.16.5) SMP with RPG elements. Here’s a list of features coming in the first release!

Classes* — Pick between a wide variety of classes, and switch between them on the fly!

Spells — Cast powerful spells based on your class (or weapon)!

Attributes — With a stat pool inspired by classic RPGs, you can upgrade your abilities and grow stronger with every level!

Custom Weapons — Lucky Break!’s first release will feature 68 weapons classified into four different categories. These weapons will all have custom 3D models and stat values!

Custom Accessories* — Equip extra accessories to special slots in a custom inventory for bonus effects!

Custom Mobs - Test your strength against new mobs built with custom stats and custom designs!

Weapon Gacha - Try your luck by spending Gol (non-premium currency) to roll for powerful weapons!

Specialty Shop - Spend your hard-earned Clovers (premium currency) on cool cosmetics and server-wide boosts!

Custom Crafting* - Combine special items to create new ones!

* in progress and may be postponed for after the first release

There are more features currently in development for beyond Release 1.0, including a whole story for the world! In the meantime, events will be pushed out on a regular basis to keep things fresh!

Lucky Break! has been on a bit of a pause as many of the team are now adjusting to getting back to school after their winter break. The main person in charge of managing building and lore development is currently going through what they call “hell week,” so best of luck to them!

I have been doing a few things here and there to keep the ball rolling. Some new updates with the server are as follows:

The class system will be fully rehauled. Instead of a class tree, a different system will be put in place to facilitate the future creation of more unique classes. The classes will not be upgradeable, but players will be able to switch between them provided that they have the points (TBD if another currency, or an existing currency) to do so!

Amazing animated models will be added to the custom mobs. The plugin Model Engine will be utilized to convert Bedrock Edition models to models compatible with Java Edition, allowing for smooth animations and accurate hitboxes! This feature will require more testing before it is deemed safe for public release, as the mechanics behind it may generate lag.

A ton of new hats have been added to the cosmetic roster. And I mean a TON... One of the people behind Lucky Break! went wild with making hats and now we have a whole bunch. Just thought it would be nice to let you guys know.

Hi guys!! Everyone’s doing a wonderful job with building, but I’m having a little slump with the scripting. I think I am going to rehaul the class/spellcasting/weapons and their mechanics. That’ll be fun.

With finals coming to a close, I’m realizing that December 20th came a lot quicker than imagined! I’m going to push the release date a little bit and see how that goes. In the meantime, I’m gonna get my friends to set up their builds and the WorldGuard regions around it, and possibly open up beta soon!

I, the dev, have been swamped by finals (really, I should’ve seen this coming) for the past week and have not been able to work on Lucky Break!. There’s actually still a lot to be done, and I may not make the December 20th release date, but just know that I’ll be working on the server again very soon! Finals are almost over for me [:

Most of the work I’ve been doing lately is NPCs, monsters and QoL stuff. It’s been tough coming up with ideas for rich gameplay, but I think players will enjoy what I’ve come up with!

One thing I’ve created is a “monsterdex” book. This book has multiple volumes (overworld, nether, end, etc.) with the overworld one being available in Release 1.0.

Here’s one of the pages of the book. It’s for the mob “crablet.” Mobs will have custom textured drops that can be cooked or crafted into special items! Here, the crablet has two custom drops, and it also drops experience and gol (the primary currency). Monsterdex entries will also show useful information like health points, damage and spawn location.

In the world of Lucky Break!, players will be faced by custom monsters of all levels and types, including bosses!

There is no set amount of monsters for Release 1.0, more will be added as I have time.

Let’s go over some of the monsters I’ve created just yesterday night!

Golbee: These buzzy fellows drop lots of gol for the prospective adventurer! Grab your weapons and farm for gol by gathering a bunch in one area and sweeping them all.

Crablet: These cute little guys would make great pets if they weren’t so feisty! They drop tons of goodies - up to 2 crab claws and up to 6 crab legs. On top of the gol and experience that all mobs drop, crablets are a whole treasure!

Orc: Just your general run-of-the-mill monster, orca deal formidable damage to a player without armor. Not only that, but they spawn in camps of at least 3! Be sure to suit up before taking these guys on.

Lucky Break! will feature five RPG-styled classes in beta and Release 1.0!

Apprentice - This is the beginner class. Learn a range of active and passive skills before moving onto one of the following four classes:

Mercenary - A melee-DPS based class. Most of not all skills have to do with increasing damage output.

Assist - A support based class. Primarily focuses on healing and buffing allies.

Hunter - A ranged-DPS based class. Has lots of skills for debuffing the enemy as well as dealing quick damage.

Mage - A utility based class. Has skills for damage dealing and for manipulating the battlefield.

Quests are an integral part of Lucky Break!’s gameplay. Quests can be obtained by speaking to NPCs. In the beta and Release 1.0, there will be three different types of quests:

- “Gather”/“get” quests: Bring a fixed amount of a certain item to an NPC

- “Defeat” quests: Kill a fixed amount of a certain mob

- “Deliver” quests: Bring a specific item from one NPC to another

Some of my friends have come along to help warm up the server and build a nice spawn. I’ve finished all of the weapon models and the rose gold weapon skins. Also, I’ve added several cosmetics to the server. NPCs are starting to populate the builds in progress. Beta might be out in the next week, we’ll see.

Cosmetics cost “clovers” (as opposed to “gol”). Clovers are a rare currency that can be earned through daily login rolls or through gear pulls. Soon, they will also be able to be purchased for real-life currency from a web shop. To abide by the Minecraft EULA and provide a fair gaming experience, clovers can only be spent on cosmetic items.

Four types weapons will be introduced in the first release (and in the beta) for Lucky Break!.

Swords are standard weapons. They’re quick and deal good damage.

Axes are heavier than swords, dealing more damage at a slower rate.

Bows are ranged weapons with rather standard stats.

Staffs have lower stats, but can cast spells on click.

Each weapon type has around 10-15+ weapons. All of these weapons will be completed in time for the beta. More weapons and weapon types will be created for future updates.

i’m gonna see if i can keep up with making logs like this.. i think it will help my productivity.

i’ve been hard at work making 3D models for EVERY weapon. this has involved a lot of learning and effort, but it’s actually been a lot of fun. honestly, though, i’d have to say this has been the hardest part of putting together the server. the amount of patience required to do something i have little experience with is quite significant, and i have never been known to be a patient person.
