The shocking and absolutely true essay on why Valdemar has to be Canadian:
Listen up cowards and critics, very recently the dear Kidd (by some known as cherrybombkidd) has caused me to come up with an interesting thesis.
In this essay I will prove to YOU, dear readers, that everyone's most beloved Quaestor / Head Physician / Demon / Cutie is Canadian, is from Canada or has at least some Canadian blood!! (If they even have blood, that is)
You might think a fictional country (nam. Vesuvia) and the real world country Canada can't possibly have anything to do with each other, but just read, for I have gathered information and proof that proves otherwise.
There actually once was a village called Vesuvia in, you guessed it, Canada. Today, the place is called Andrew, Alberta.
is a screenshot off of it's Wikipedia article, and after some searching I found a map of Alberta from 1922:
in which the town's old name is still used. Throughout the Game, it is hinted at strongly that Valdemar has lived their entire life in Vesuvia, but isn't the question rather WHICH Vesuvia?
This is a screenshot from Chapter XIII of the game, in which Valdemar is shown to walk through maple leaves. This suggests that they were standing under a maple tree before MC arrived. For what reason could they possibly be standing under a maple tree? Perhaps to remember the maple trees from their old home (Canada)? Even in flower/plant language, maple leaves are usually shown to mean "old memories".
If you look closely, you can see a special texture on the bandages on their head, resembling the Medium-stretch All-purpose Bandage "Lenkelast®" made only by "The Canadian Bandage Shoppe". Due to the fact that the world in "The Arcana" does not seem to contain shipping of medical goods, they must have either gotten them from the shop themselves, or through some other unexplained reason.
how the colors of the Canadian flag could possibly be represented in Valdemar's sprite. Even the beetle pin might be a strong reference to the mountain pine beetle, whose habitat is commonly found in British Columbia and Alberta.
Their hand position, too, seems to resemble the maple leaf, shown HERE.
After this evidence, any uncertainty is clearly out of the question. Quaestor Valdemar IS Canadian, or they are at least very strongly hinted to be from or associated with Canada. Of course, every person should have their own opinion, yet personally? There should be no doubts.
