Luci Jackson

“I’m afraid you’re asking the wrong person…” Riana laughs lightly at the woman she recognised from the fundraiser. “But, you’re more than welcome to wait for my driver if you’d like assistance,” she offers with a small shrug.

“First the shoes, now the car” she laughed “You may start to think I’m a damsel in distress most the time.” she joked, remember their conversation at the fundraiser. 

“That would be great, it isn’t like I’m going anywhere soon with a flat tire that won’t come off” she admitted.

Giorgio had some knowledge about cars, but it was better if people didn’t discover how he acquired that knowledge. Car Racing. Illegal car racing, to be precise. The streets of Paris had been his playground growing up. For the right price, bored rich kids could pretend to be someone else during the night. And Giorgio was and still is very good at pretending.

“ Interesting job you have, miss. No Hulk. I´m afraid that he might cause more destruction than good. I don´t know many garages, but perhaps my driver would know better than me. ”

Luci’s knowledge of cars was very minimal, she knew that basics of car care and how to easily get herself from A to B but anything beyond that was way past her. Changing a tire should have been simple to her, at least when there weren’t temperamental bolts involved.

“The job keeps me on my toes, and busy of course.”

“I can do a grand total of none of those things, so you won’t find any judgement here.”

Usually, he wouldn’t have stopped for a stranger in the street, but given the fact that she was clearly struggling, he couldn’t, in good conscience, keep walking. 

“I’m about as strong as I look—which is not particularly—so you may have heckled over the wrong guy.” Amir chuckled, glancing at the woman almost apologetically. “I can call someone to help if you need it, though? I know a couple of people from the garage about ten minutes away. I’m sure they’d be happy to send someone out.”

“I’ only recently learnt” she admitted, “though clearly, I’m yet to master to arts of difficult bots.” 

She laughed at the comment of him being the wrong guy that she had called over “Well a girl can dream”.

“That’s a measuring scale I haven’t heard before,” she pauses to take a sip from her flute, “what’s the deciding factor?”

“I definitely need to remember to wear a new pair of shoes in before I wear them out.”

“Ah, I see,” Laurie commented, trying not to let his disappointment show. It probably wasn’t normal to get excited about someone getting murdered, but he couldn’t help it. “I was just asking, because I’ve got a true crime podcast. Thought it would be an interesting story to bring up next episode.”

“Interesting for some, but not all I’m afraid. So sorry, nothing too exciting I’m afraid.”

Since arriving in London, Rachael had felt as if she hadn’t really done anything to help the greater good, or to help those in need. She was feeling philanthropic and one of her girls told her about a friend of a friend that could help. Some woman named Luci Jackson. 

As Rachael walked into the restaurant, she wasn’t really sure what to look for; she had never met the woman and hadn’t seen any pictures, but the two woman had been communicating via email and had decided to meet each other in an attempt to coordinate and event together. 

“Reservation for Rachael Montgomery,” Rachael stated, hoping that Luci was in the vicinity and would recognize the name. “I am meeting with another woman, a Luci Jackson,” Rachael informed the hostess. 

For a while now Luci had wanted to plan an event, something to help raise awareness for children who found themselves in a similar situation as she did as a child. To her there where never has been enough awareness in regards to adoption, especially to those of an older age. It was something that Luci had been talking about with a friend for a while now, and after some time she had advised Luci that she knew of someone who may be able to help. 

Her name was Rachael Montgomery and it really didn't take Luci long to accept the offer of arranging a meeting with the women. A time, date, and location had been set, Luci had arrived earlier than expected and had remembered that the reservation would be in the name of Rachael. 

It wasn’t long after Luci had been seated that she was joined by another female, instantly Luci rouse to her feet and offered a friendly handshake. .

Seth and Caitlyn when 17 and 15 when they first met each other, Seth had always had a wild side to him, where Caitlyn had been brought up by her strict religious parents. Set loved Caitlyn's blue eyes and she was drawn to his charm, it didn’t take long for his ways to rub off on Caitlyn, and for her behaviour to change completely - causing chaotic arguments between her and her parent. Caitlyn had only just turned 16 when Seth introduced her into his world of drugs, and within months she was hooked and had run away from her family home to live in his rundown bedsit.  After that Caitlyn lost all communication with her parents. Hers and Seth's life was nothing more than parties and drugs, they loved each other deeply, but they also loved their drugs.  It was the only life they knew, and they where both shocked when at 21 years old Caitlyn discovered she was pregnant with Luci. Despite their lifestyle and past there was no way neither of them had to hear to terminate their child, so during the pregnancy, they both sought help and managed to remain sober throughout - it was hard but with the constant threats of social services that made them stick it out.  However, once Luci was born their soberness didn’t last long and before she was even six months old they were both back on drugs. Caitlyn and Seth managed to hide their addition from the health visitor but once that stopped it just worse and worse. For years Luci grew up with drug addict parents, it was normal for her and knew no different. It wasn’t until one of Luci’s teacher noticed the lack of clean clothes, and that she rarely had food or money and lunches that she becomes concerned, and then one day found a used needle in her school bag. The social services were called and within days Luci was placed in foster care. Her parents were given a strict set of rules to follow and a year to clean up their act or risk looking Luci forever. Unfortunately their addiction was too much and a year later, they lost all legal rights to their daughter. 

It wasn’t her favourite watering hole in Westminster by any means, but after a particularly taxing day at the office (that ended with a dire need for alcohol), Cassie had decided to stop in and give the place a shot. If nothing else, the company wasn’t terrible, and the drinks were cheap. For the past ten minutes, the middle-aged bartender who’d had heart eyes from the moment she’d walked in had been talking her ear off about Chelsea’s season.

Cassie hadn’t the heart to tell him she wasn’t the BBC Sports reporter he thought her to be.

During a brief break in which he moved along the bar to attend to another customer, Cassie caught the attention of the person who had just sat down beside her. She nudged their shoulder lightly, lowering her voice to a whisper, “I’ll buy your drinks for the rest of the night if you pretend you’re here to meet me. If I have to talk about football anymore, I might die.”

Luci was on her monthly night out with some of her work colleges, though they have called it the ‘monthy night’ out Luci actually couldn’t remember the last time she had physically joined them. As she was waiting for her to drive to arrive she felt a gentle nudge on her should, followed by a small whisper from the blonde. 

“Oh” she replied, raising her eyebrows. “One of those it is?” Luci had noted moments ago that the man behind the bar had spent most of her free time, trying to speak to the blonde next to her and with her job she had become good a reading peoples body laughe and to her it was obvious she had no interest in what the man had to say. 

She watched as the man made her way over, clearing her voice Luci made sure that she spoke loud enough for people to hear her. 

“Sorry, I’m late. I got held up.” 

“So, what’s the best Scotch one can order in this bar?” Robert asked, sweet smile on his face, one hand placed on the bar counter and tucking his tie with another. “Not that I’m expert in Scotch, quite the opposite.”

The bar was one of Luci’s prefered places to go, it was often busy but not rowdy to the point where you couldn’t hear yourself think. She was deeply read into a case study when a man's voice caught her attention. “Sorry was that directed towards me?” she asked. “If so I honestly don’t know a single thing about scotch. 

Laurie watched her curiously as she pulled out, what was clearly, an evidence bag and placed the other bag inside. His stomach bubbled with excitement, elated with the idea that he somehow stumbled into a crime investigation. What a brilliant story for his podcast. He should be a little more concerned that she might become suspicious that he was the one that put the bag in the rubbish bin, but he’d worry about that if the time came. 

He had to train his features to not look so obviously giddy as she started asking him questions that he didn’t know the answers to. “Uh–well, this is the back of a cafe,” He gestured towards the building. “They might have a security system out here. I don’t really know,” He shrugged. “Are you investigating a murder?” He asked blatantly, his head buzzing with ideas for a new episode.

Having people out questions when she was at a scene wasn’t anything new to Luci, though most of the time it was more the press that asked such upfront questions. She listened to what the man had to say, her eyes scanning the top of the buildings hoping to show signs of some sort of camera, unfortunately apart from the discovery of the bag Luci was out of luck. She left out a disapproving sigh.

“It’s called Dani’s Delights.” She grinned with a shrug. “I know it’s corny, but I’ve always been a sucker for cheesy things.” She laughed softly. “Oh good! We have all sorts too so you should stop by sometime! All of you!” She nodded eagerly

. 

“Dani’s Delights” Luci repeated as she typed the name into her phone. “Cheesy things are good, I have to admit I’m also a sucker for anything cheese related.” 

By this time Luci had finished her fries, and it was near enough the time that she should be heading back. “Well thank you, it’s nice to have a conversation that doesn’t involve talk of suspects or blood.”

Luci put on her coat “I’ll see you soon for some of those baked good.”

“Can’t say I blame you, to be honest.” A part of him felt sorry for the poor fucker; maybe he didn’t even realise it. Then again, Tom probably wouldn’t have been so lenient had he been the one stood next to the unhygienic stranger instead of the poor woman in front of him. The man sighed out through his nose playfully, shaking his head. There was always one.

It didn’t sound bad at all. This bullshit was exactly the reason the house he and his wife had picked was within running distance of both of their workplaces.

“I guess this is goodbye, then,” he mused as the train started to slow on approach to her station. “You’ll be all right. Go home, smell a bit of bleach, and maybe the horror will have left you by tomorrow.” Tom laughed, stepping aside slightly as a group of people made their way to the door next to which he stood. “Maybe I’ll bump into you again, eh? Less of the violence next time, if you don’t mind.”

“I’ve dealt with some stenches at work but this was something different. At least I learnt that I haven’t lost my sense of smell.” Luci could tell that her top was coming up, carefully she placed her jacket on hoping to avoid the London chill. 

Laurie was on his way to a cafe when he got a call from his producer, causing him to stop mid-step to answer. There the path was relatively empty, so he made himself comfortable against the side of the building, anticipating that this wasn’t going to be a quick conversation.

It was mostly an update on the schedule and expectations for future episodes, nothing that really required his full attention. He watched cars pass idly as he gave his producer one word answers, completely missing someone placing a bag in the bin behind him.

When he finally hung up, he turned around and saw a woman pull a bag out of the bin and rifle through it, raising an eyebrow in interest. He wondered if he somehow wondered into an attempted terrorist attack. “Oh uh,” He blinked in surprised when she addressed him. “Shit no, I wasn’t looking. Is it a bomb?”

“No, No it’s not,” Luci said firmly and quickly, raising her hand as if to say there is no need to panic. Luci looked around hoping that no one had overheard his assumption, the last thing she needed was the residents of London going into a frenzy thinking there was about to be a tourist attack. 

“Honestly it's fine. Just something of interest that’s all “ she reassured him, placing the holdall in a large evidence bag before removing her glove.
