Magnus watched him carefully and nodded. He knew about the dangers of getting used to how people saw you; it had taken him long to see himself as something other than a monster. âWhat about your mother? You mentioned her⌠I thought you had her?â
Nodding, he smiled softly. âThatâs a good start. To accept yourself and know that your magic has the ability to heal and to destroy. Iâve been practicing magic for over 400 years, and even I sometimes lose control.â His mind went back to his first night with Alec, when his glamour had dropped because of how caught up in the moment he was. âAlexander told me youâve been practicing magic with Judas,â he said before blinking a few times. âJude,â Magnus corrected himself with a face. âDoes he not feel proud of your achievements?â As soon as he asked the question, Magnus let out a little chuckle. They were talking about Judas. Of course he didnât.
âJust the basics. Only things that are related to your magic. When you first started using it, how you found out about your mark, what kind of magic you found yourself mostly doingâŚâ He smiled. âBut you can tell me other things as well. Iâm all ears.â Magnus paused for a moment and sipped at his drink. âI know it can be⌠difficult to talk about some of those things for some warlocks. And you donât have to tell me details if you donât want to.â
Lucas opened his mouth for a moment before closing it. What could he say about her? Normally he talked about his Mother when he was relaying something happy. It made him feel good to bring her into conversations like that, to remind him what he had learned from her and he talked to her a lot when he was alone but at the end of the day, it was mostly sadness that surrounded her memory for him. âSheâs not alive any more. Died in a car accident along with my Step Dad.â He said simply, thinking about it for a moment before looking at the other man.
âYeah, but I imagine you loosing control doesnât result in you blowing things up in flames or something...â He answered back simply before he could stop himself, a soft frown on his features. When Alec was mentioned, he smiled a little. He liked him. Heâd been pretty cool with him from the beginning. âYeah... I mean I guess. Heâs helped me when I asked for it.â Although there was pretty much always a catch involved with Jude where Lucas was expected to do something for him first. âHe is...â Honestly Lucas wasnât sure he actually believed that but he would never badmouth or betray the older warlock. He cared about him. âBut Jude isnât really the type to show how he feels much. I just know, thatâs all.â He found himself defending before Magnus could say anything bad about him.
âMy eyes? Oh I think the first time I found out about them was when I was watching an owl actually. I can remember thinking about how amazing it must have been to have that freedom and how intelligent they are and in control. I guess I kinda felt a connection to them straight away... Gave Mom a bit of a shock though.â He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck as he recalled the memory fondly. âI canât remember when I first used it though. It was a little like having a ghost in the house I guess. Like... I would send things flying across the room when I wanted something or just things happened when I was particularly emotional.â Back then heâd been too young to really understand how they all related to him but he got there. âYeah... there are things that... well I guess I donât like talking about.â To say them would be to admit to the truth of things finally and even this far on he wasnât ready for that.
