“The sky is blue, and all the leaves are green.”
----------------------------
The three days in a row of non-stop rain had finally stopped. While Horatio didn't necessarily mind the rain, he did prefer the sunshine, with at least a few clouds in the sky to help block out the sun now and then. But admittedly, he grew to like rainy weather a little more only because it was perfect weather to just cuddle up with his gorgeous girlfriend, listening to the raindrops on his window, or hers - depending on where they were - either with a movie playing or while she read one of her many books.
Not that they needed rainy weather to cuddle. Cuddling was something they did every day, really. Before school when they were sat in the courtyard waiting for classes to start or during their lunch hour where they were sat under their favorite tree, either with her laying against his chest or his head in her lap, and of course when they were at each other's home. If they weren't studying or doing homework, then they were playing a game or just cuddling on the sofa or in bed and... well, even when they were studying or doing homework. They were inseparable. Even when they were hanging out with their small group of friends they were always being affectionate, but not overly. Nothing sexual. It was mostly just holding hands, or his arm around her shoulders with her head on his, or him holding her from behind, or her hugging him... physical affection like that. With a kiss here and there, sometimes making out but not heavily. They were just... so in love. And it showed. It showed in every moment they spent together and they had become the couple at school.
Today, though, there was no school. It was the weekend. There was no school, there was no rainy weather. There was no practice. There was just the weekend and hanging out with his girlfriend and instead of staying in, they decided to go out. It was late morning and they had decided to head to Central Park to soak up the sun a little, especially since it wasn't too hot and it smelled incredible thanks to all of the rain. And he loved Central Park. There was a lot to do here, walking trails included, and there were a lot of cute shops that they planned on visiting, including the bookstore because of course that was on their to-do list. He'd never think otherwise when they were out and about.
With a wide smile, Horatio pulled her closer against his side, his arm wrapped around her shoulders and her hand holding his, their fingers linked together on her shoulder. "The rain did wonders for the park, huh?" Horatio commented as he looked around, smiling. "It feels amazing out here today. Blue sky, green leaves, and the hot dogs are cooking." He chuckled, taking in a deep breath, his stomach already growling at the thought of getting one of those hot dogs from the food carts. Those were so damn good.
"Alright, so what first?" He smiled against her temple, then pulled back, continuing their walk. "Walk the trail? Visit the bookshop?" He grinned down at her, knowing she was probably most excited about that. "Grab a drink?" Coffee or slushies or smoothies, whatever they wanted. "Or head for the courts?" He eyed the basketball court in the distance and grinned down at her again, voice quieting and deepening just a little. "Don't think I forgot about our little bet." Their bet from two nights ago on whoever lost at Jenga had to go wherever, or do whatever, the other wanted. Horatio had won. Even with Maria trying to distract him by flirting and teasing him, which almost worked. Almost. The removal of her shirt nearly did him in but he managed to keep it together and her attempts had backfired because her next move ended in the tower of blocks collapsing. And what was it that he chose? Bringing her to the courts and showing her how to shoot. It wouldn't be the first time he's shown her, but it had been a while because of everything going on, so he was really looking forward to this.
He loved having her be part of something so important to him. He wanted her to be woven in every part of his life. And truthfully, she already was. She always had been and he loved that. He loved being able to share his passions with her, he loved experiencing them with the girl he loved. Because even though he loved Basketball, even though he loved criminal justice and his dream of becoming a Police Officer and eventual Detective, there was nothing, and no one, that Horatio Caine loved more than his girl.
The real and true love of his life. The girl of his dreams. His other half. His best friend. His soulmate.
