A Huge Holographic Ronald McDonald

A couple of weeks ago, the word Boomer became part of a the common lexicon of the country, whether people liked it or not. And at first, I too inherited the idea behind it, a nice way of insulting a generation that, by the view of the Millennial and all after us, had screwed up everything.

But the more I thought about this word and the implication behind it, the more it started to bug me. I didn't dislike it, but something about the idea -  the notion of it - just sort of sat in a pot and brewed in my brain. And it did so for the better part of the week until just now, standing on my back deck, freezing my ass off, the reality of it came to me quite suddenly.

And I figured if I didn't write it down, I've got no one but myself to blame for not sharing this truth that has occurred to me.

I can't fucking recall a generation that had anything nice to say about the generation that came before it.

And I think that's a shame. I think I understand WHY it's happened, but we'll get to that. I just wanna stick on this a second: I think it's a shame that, up until this point, generations of people have more or less come to utterly loathe the generation that came before them. And I hope that maybe, just maybe, we can put a stop to that. Because here's the thing, guys, this is it: this is why generations have absolutely loathed one another until now.

There was no internet.

And I'm not saying that as some sort of factitious jab at generations older than my own, a sort of 'yes, well, you weren't as superior as we are, neener neener.' That's not what I'm getting at here.

The generation before mine(I was born in '82, for the record, and the internet came into my life at the age of about 13) did not have access to the internet the way the Millennials did. That is something that people of my age can say they have had access to for the better part of their life, at least until their formative teen years and up.

I know that doesn't include EVERY single person, but by and large, people in the US had some manner of internet access by 1995, and by 2000, it was a home standard((P.S. A generation is when you reach an age, not when you're born. I was 18(old enough to have kids) in 2000. I was part of the Millennial Generation. That's what a generation is. Just in case anyone here is confused on how that works.))

And that is something that is very important to remember. Generations before mine did not have this tool and to this day, do not understand this tool well. Even my own mother, who's one of the most book-smart people I know, still doesn't really 'get' computers the way I do.

What does this have to do with anything?

My generation has zero excuse for not keeping up with, and at least trying to understand, the generations that come after us. Like, zero excuse. No, my mom won’t ever under me quite the way @mayor-skeleton does, because we're more closely connected in a cultural way via the internet, than the woman that raised me

She will never understand why internet friendships are just as valid and important as face-to-face relationships. That's what my mom used to tell me - that I needed to make friends in the 'real world', as if somehow, my friend living in Texas wasn't 'real'. She will never understand memes the way my generation does, though I’ll admit, even now, some of them go over my own head, a sign that I’m just getting older. 

As far as I’m concerned, the people of my generation have a duty to keep up with the rest of the world, and the generations that come after us. My parents at least had an excuse of not having the access to information the way I do. But now? If we fuck this up, there won’t be an excuse.

We’re here. We see what’s fucked up - we’re living in it. And while they’re screwing up now and we’re trying to fix it? We have to stay on this. There’s no excuse for this happening again. There’s literally no reason that we’ll have for saying, “Well, sorry, we just don’t get it.’ Look, motherfuckers, stick it in your goddamn Googler, okay? 

One day, it’ll be us sitting in the Senate office, us sitting in the White House, us making laws and passing judgement on whether or not people can live their lives the way they want, so long as they’re not hurting or bothering people. That’ll be me, that’ll be you.

I’ve been called a ‘fuckin’ Millennial’ several times by people older than me.

Do you mean to tell me that White Christian America honestly believes that gay people are just straight up evil? I cannot even see how you’d begin to believe that. LGBTQ are lovely. They always are to me. I’m as white and straight as it gets, and every time I’ve met gay people or drag queens or transgendered people, they’ve always been nothing but the nicest fucking people I’ve ever met. they’ve always been warm and welcoming and unfailingly kind to me. I’ve never met a rude LGBTQ person. And I realize that there’s a possibility to that, that maybe they felt they HAD to be nice to me because they were GAY and I was female and STRAIGHT, that might have made them nervous to be anything else but perfectly polite, and if that’s true, I’m deeply sorry I’ve ever made you feel that way. I am terribly saddened by the notion that LGBTQ people have been treated so fucking poorly that they - like most blacks and other minorities - have just learned that when around whites, they have to always be picture perfect personifications of law-abiding citizens in every fucking way.

And that’s just impossible if they’re these evil, horrible creatures. These people have been treating white people - who’ve subjugated them in every way(I am really talking about black people here as well.) - like perfection because if they don’t, we may kill them, for as long as I can fucking remember.

And yet somehow, they’re the evil ones. 

Right.

i’m not saying that online relationships aren’t important or can’t be meaningful - they are and they can - but for example, today i got really fucking angry about something  in a server and when i proceeded to talk - angrily - about how angry i was about this thing, i suddenly had a few people - that i considered friends and that considered me as a friend to them - messaging me like, ‘what’s this all about?’ and i’m like, ‘this is how i feel about this thing’ and they’re like ‘since when?’ and i’m like ‘since forever’

but the problem was, they’d never seen me angry. and i’m not talking just a little peeved here, i’m talking straight up ‘i am legitimately angry about this and i am probably using vulgarity and strong words to make my anger clear’ and most people online that we call friends don’t actually see that very often, if at all, out of us.

and look, i’m sorry, but when you don’t understand the depths and how anger works in another person? you don’t know that person. you don’t know how they feel about some things that may - sadly - be common, everyday happenstances that MAY really set a person off.

and when that’s the case, can you really call that person your friend? can you really call someone a friend when there’s the possiblity that one day, you may say or talk about something you did that may literally just make the person you’re talking to feel desires and urges to throttle you through a screen?

and i’m not saying they’re angry at something YOU DID specifically - you may just be talking about a situation you were a part of that involves A Thing that your friend has some HUGE aversion to. but if you knew that person in real life, there’s a HUGE chance that you’ve interacted with them enough - in a physical way - that you KNOW they dislike this thing.

that’s not what friendship is, i don’t think. but we’ve been brought up into a culture that tells us that we shouldn’t share our anger or talk about things that make us angry because we - and I think when I say ‘we’, what I may actually mean is women, but don’t quote me on that, i’m still on the fence about whether or not i actually want to make this a sexist thing or not - have been taught that we shouldn’t talk about things that make other people uncomfortable. we shouldn’t talk about the things that make us so irrationally angry as to suddenly have the desire to go out and SHOOT something, not because we’re violent or even aggressive, but sometimes you just get SO ANGRY that violence against an inanimate object is CLEARLY the only legitimate solution.

and that’s why internet friendships are very imperfect and incomplete.

Eddie Santana JD: Well, I don't see this "pressure" they're talking about for a female Thor. All it did was open the door to put in some perverted storylines with gay relationships. Well, gay people were watching superhero movies before they decided to cater to them specifically, so why do it, pandering to supposedly 2% of the population to piss of the other 98%? (Because they have gay friends or family members they want to impress, or maybe even the bi-sexual writers or producers.) Makes no sense.

And it’s at this point that I just sort of blanked out from the abject stupidity of what I was reading. When I finally felt my brain no longer leaking out of my skull, this was my reply. I warn you, it’s long:

First of all, do you honestly think that kids are going to go see movies with LGBTQ people in them and just DECIDE to be gay or transgendered? That's not how that works. You don't CHOOSE to be gay, you just ARE. Just like some people don't choose to be straight - they just are. No one gets a questionnaire in the womb, asking them what gender or sexuality they'd like to be. It's just sort of how you come out.

Let's look at the alternative: do you truly believe that with as dangerous in the world as it is for LGBTQ people(which I'll talk about in my next point!), people would CHOOSE to risk harassment, ridicule, and murder? Willingly? No one would do that. Not one person in their right, functioning mind would WILLINGLY put themselves at that kind of risk. LGBTQ people don't ask to be gay no more than people ask to be male, female, or transgendered(which is another group of people you feel it's okay to attack for something they have ZERO say in!).

Second of all, calling the 'liberal left' and 'LGBT' "bullies" is absolutely hilarious, seeing as conservatives, homophobes, Nazis, and religious whackos have spent, oh, IDK, HOW LONG? basically ostracizing and literally KILLING LGBTQ people? There are still countries in this world where it's literally against the law - and PUNISHABLE BY DEATH - to be gay. When's the last time you heard - in a big, real, meaningful 'in the news/media' way - about a group of LGBT people ganging up on and beating the shit out of a straight person?

You don't. Period.

Thirdly, if you're pushing some 'Christian' agenda here, please stop. The Bible is very clear when it comes to judging other people; we, as imperfect human beings, don't have the right to judge people for how they live their lives. I am not perfect, you are not perfect, no one is perfect. We don't get to pass judgment on others because of this - how can imperfect humans possibly be a higher judge than God HImself? How can we possibly condemn our fellow humans we when, ourselves, are just as condemnable?

We don't get to preach about 'God's agenda' or 'God's plan' because we don't KNOW God's plan. We cannot even begin to fathom it. But if you DO agree that people don't choose to be LGBT(which, luckily for you, I spelled out above how that's the way of things), then you have to admit that seeing as God doesn't have accidents, gay and transgender people were deliberate. God has a plan and gay/transgendered people ARE part of that plan. They have to be, because if people don't choose to be gay, then it's not some self-made concept and it is the way God wanted things. God wanted gay/transgendered people to exist, so they do.

You cannot possibly adhere to the notion that one day, someone just randomly decided, 'You know what, I think I'll go against EVERYTHING I've ever been taught to be 'natural', and go have sex with someone who's the same gender as me, knowing that God would surely smite me down if I did, because I enjoy the thought of being judged, harassed, beaten, maimed, tortured, and maybe killed by this huge thing called The Church and God." or "You know, despite society around me, I feel like I want to be a female, even though I was born in the body of a man."

But there are histories and records that homosexual and transgendered people exist in some form or another in nearly EVERY CULTURE IN THE WORLD. So it seems to me that it's not some new notion floating around, and LGBTQ people are just as normal and just as natural as every other kind of person because that's how God made people.

Some people are straight. Some people are gay. Some people are transgendered. And just as God gave us all the ability to love - a gift that we should be forever thankful for, because it's love that allows us to be closer to God, AND one another - that means that gay people should have the right to love people just as much as straight people. God also gave us the ability - and often tells us - to love ourselves and our bodies. It's hard to love your body when it's the wrong gender from what transgender people deeply feel it should be.

LGBTQ are not exempt, they don't 'not count'. They are part of God's plan, and they should have the right to love themselves and others just as much as straight people do, freely and without risk of harm or persecution from their fellow human beings.

I don't understand how good Christian people can believe that God would create people to be the way they are, and then condemn and punish those people for something He decided for them, that they have no control over.

P.S. If - IF - LGBTQ people did chose to be the way they are, who cares? LGBTQ people aren’t out there hanging people from trees and driving their cars into crowds of people.

It’s just the way I like to draw and I think that eyes and eye sockets are very important features of the face. :)
