“One should chant the Holy Names of the Lord as if he is reading a letter from his beloved, whom he has been separated with for a very long time.”

today i did a double feature of hop (2011) dir. tim hill and sonic the hedgehog (2020) dir. jeff fowler and i gotta say… james marsden is intimidatingly handsome and also has great chemistry with small talking cgi animal creatures
finding myself very invested in the James Marsden Chauffeuring Obnoxious Little CGI Creatures Cinematic Universe (JMCOLCCCU)
Imagine having this career
it all checks out
"He [Jesus] was born of a Mother whom He chose before He was born. It is the only instance in history where both the Son willed the Mother and the Mother willed the Son. And this is what the Creed means when it says 'born of the Virgin Mary.' She was called by God, as Aaron was, and Our Lord was born not just of her flesh but also by her consent. Before taking into himself a human nature, He consulted with the Woman, to ask her if she would give Him a man."
-The World's First Love, Fulton Sheen
Imagine being Catholic, seeing a photo of a bishop praying on his knees that racism and the suffering and murder of black people ends, and being offended and disgusted by his actions. Say it with me people, racism isn’t “political”, racism isn’t POLITICAL. RACISM ISNT POLITICAL. ITS INHERENTLY EVIL NO MATTER WHAT.
I am begging Hollywood to give us one (1) genuinely holy, happily celibate priest. No heresy, no lust, no regret, no ‘edgy takes’ on Catholicism put in to appease agnostic viewers. Just a wholesome cleric trying to do his best in a world where it’s far too easy to do your worst.
And happy, holy nuns too!
I’d pay good money to see this

Check out Going My Way and The Bells of St. Mary’s.
Theyre Bing Crosby films .. you get a happy, holy priest and happy holy nuns and great music!
The Scarlet and the Black is based on the true story of a priest who worked against the Nazis, and he’s played by Gregory Peck. He’s sincere in his faith and as far as I remember quite happy to be a priest.
Yes, please turn this into a Catholic media rec. thread
I like the awkward young priest in Grand Torino, who works earnestly to save Clint Eastwood’s soul after making a promise to his wife on her deathbed.
I love the protagonist in Diary of a Country Priest.
I’m inspired by Monsieur Vincent (de Paul).
Non-fictional ones…
There Be Dragons (2011) (St. Josemaria Escriva)
For Greater Glory (2012) (St. Cristóbal Magallanes Jara)
Faustina: Love and Mercy (Bl. Fr. Michael Sopocko)
And one that gets my heart every time - Les Miserables
There Be Dragons reminds me of another by the same director: Jeremy Irons in The Mission.
Also, I’m a fan of the depictions of Cardinal Lustiger and John Paul II in The Jewish Cardinal. The movie had me at the opening scene, where Lustiger is smoking, swearing, translating Hebrew, and riding a scooter to the nuncio’s to find out he’s been named bishop.
Hitchcock's I CONFESS (1953) turns on a priest's self-sacrifice to preserve the Seal of Confession.

“For us, adorers, there is still something more in the mystery of the Immaculate Conception. If God thus preserved Mary, it was because He wished to dwell in her. He wished to descend into a holy dwelling-place pure and perfect. The Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit purified Mary only to make of her a worthy tabernacle for the Divine Word. He had to create a new heaven for Him, one entirely pure. To receive Him into her bosom, Mary had to be immaculate. The Immaculate Conception is the remote preparation for Holy Communion. With what happiness the Word contemplated that dwelling which He had prepared for Himself.”
— St. Peter Julian Eymard

Do. It. For . Him.
When we praise and bless Our Lady by saying the Angelic Salutation [Hail Mary], she always passes on these praises to Almighty God in the same way she did when she was praised by Saint Elizabeth.
-St. Louis de Montfort, The Secret of the Rosary
