“ Psh. You're like one of those ' did you drink water? ' boyfriends. Or a ward doctor making sure I don't hide meds under my tongue. ” [ he chuckles lightheartedly, raising the glass to his lips. being watched makes him feel a bit sheepish, and he averts his gaze before taking a sip. ]
“ Thanks. I didn't know -- You don't have to worry about li'l old me. This is something I have to learn to get used to again. Feels like an addiction I gotta get my fix for all the sudden, y'know? ” [ and it feels GOOD to get that fix. it feels good to break bread with another person, to share that connection and feed each other. Cesare wouldn't say it aloud, but the sentiment of making sure he eats is FLATTERING. ]

An excited gleam enters the brunette's eyes, and her crooked expressions melts into something soft and genuine. It's not everyday she can discuss one of her hyper-fixations with a stranger without them getting bored.
"It's not cliché if it deserves the prestige. Murnau's use of chiaroscuro in the film was inspired! When I first watched it in theatres, Max Shreck's inhuman movements actually gave me a nightmare or two." She absolutely just dated herself, but she prays the costumed gentleman is too distracted to notice. "I tend to be more of a fan of books than film on principle, but I could watch Nosferatu over and over without getting bored-- and still discover something new!
"Murnau also did an adaptation of Goethe's Faust in 1926 that I highly recommend. The imagery is positively haunting!"
💀 ⸺ [ the story was HAUNTING on its own ; a man who sold his soul to the devil, only to find that he was in over his head. Cesare had read an early iteration of the tale and related to his discontent, yearning for the humanity he'd left behind. it did chill him, unlike the cheesy blood and guts horror that he favors --
but right now he's playing human, his favorite pastime! he can set those brief dismal thoughts aside, more interested in the woman's PASSION for the subject. an intellectual has no business being HERE of all places ; it humors him. ]
“ Can't say I've seen it, I'll have to give it a gander! -- But I think I'm out of my league here, you've already got me beat by casually dropping ' chiaroscuro, ' eheh. Are you in film school or something ..? ”
Allen stepped back and to the side as Cesare finally walked inside his apartment, hands planting on his hips with a small smile. Despite how much money Cesare paid him for his work, the apartment was small, modest; he didn't need a lavish life. He just wanted to live comfortably, and live that way for a long time. With the money he made working at Zomburger, he was set up to do that.
"I will forever be indebted to you, Cesare, for providing me with the funds to live a modest life for a very long time. As long as I don't splurge too often, that is. Not only that, but you believed in me and my ideas..." When nobody else would. Not his parents. Not theater producers who felt his methods were 'too much.'
Clearing his throat, Allen stepped closer to the zombie and gave him a pat on the back. "Shall I give you the grand tour?"
💀 ⸺ [ his head bows without thinking ; a humble gesture of respect imprinted in him. Cesare would reassure him that HE was the one indebted, but he can't find the words. true, he'd funded a comfortable life, but Allen SAVED his ... there are so many things he'd say, if allowing himself vulnerability wasn't so new.
he perks back up at the pat to his back, a sheepish smile spanning his lips. not being asked to do anything in particular before they continue on, he assumes the CUSTOMS of the modern - day home are pretty relaxed. anyway, he's too embarrassed to draw the concern attention by asking. ]

ooc ; thoughts pertaining to my post - canon zombie ending ft. LDG because i'm thinking real hard for once
despite being the keeper of the previous Watchers, the messenger for C.aligari's tasks for Cesare, and KNOWING he was doomed ; SHE was too. Cesare recognizes that she was a person perhaps the MOST puppeteered under his influence -- and HE at least got to go out on a leash sometimes. she was reduced to just that ; a Living Dead Girl.
he would have liked to have saved every watcher as well, and any remaining being underground when it all collapsed. all the two of them have left of that experience is each other, and in a way it's therapeutic, to have someone who shared the same traumatic experience as you. no one else could understand!
they both have survivor's guilt, albeit they experience it in different ways. i think LDG would be frustrated with Ces for saving her, falling into a depression. she's overwhelmed, scared, and guilty, under a quiet, stone - cold guise. sometimes showing in the form of anger and lashing out at Cesare. she's been thrust into a life that she had come to terms with never seeing long ago, with no memory of the past or knowledge of the current world.
meanwhile Cesare is persistent in helping her, getting her a wheelchair and other mobility aids she may need. he's optimistic and eager to teach her about the world and its people, showing patience and understanding that wouldn't be expected of him.
despite her pessimism, the world is beautiful and her friends are kind. she doesn't believe she deserves to be a part of it, but warms up and finds purpose and enjoys being alive!! her own person!! happy ending!

ooc ; what if i tested out writing ldg on her own little sideblog? idk i've been thinking abt that redemption arc idea ... i'd have to see how it works out w having her interact w/ people bc she is very apathetic / quiet and just a niche character in general. not outgoing & would be freshly learning how to integrate into society
