Hart was on testosterone, legally changed his name, and had gotten a hysterectomy (that was described as "unfortunate" by the Right to Privacy gay and lesbian political action committee), making him the first documented trans man to transition in the USA, yet he was characterized as a lesbian woman because cis gays and lesbians had the nerve (when do they NOT have the nerve, dare I say) to think they had the right to "honor [his] life as a woman" by having fundraiser dinners with his deadname attached to them, having college lectures where they talked about him as a lesbian hero, and using she pronouns for him until 2000. The USAmerican trans community, including trans activist Lou Sullivan, had to fight to defend Hart's identity and to have his manhood recognized by the wider community by protesting these lectures and dinners and having a conversation with the Portland chapter of the Lesbian Avengers association, which ended up having a favorable response and joining the trans community in the battle.

I want to end this by reporting the words of Candice Hellen Brown, a trans woman from Portland who wrote a letter to Just Out magazine in 1994 defending Hart's transness:

The Right to Privacy Political Action Committee in Oregon has a big fundraiser every year that is called the [deadname] Hart Dinner. When asked if I am going, I indignantly answer, "Not until they stop using the wrong name and gender for one of our heroes!" His name is Alan [. . .] He never wavered from his identity as a man, and upon his death, his widow continued to insist that he was a man. Why would such a straight man be called a lesbian by the gay community when today we would certainly call him a female-to-male transsexual? [. . .] He was transsexual or, at least, a transgenderist - a true pioneer. One who is seen as a hero by today's transsexual community. Please don't let him be taken away from us by allowing his old name to be used as though it were a badge of honor.

I'm not saying there hasn't been any harassment because i haven't seen it, just that i fear SOME ( not all ) people are talking about valid criticism.

Not to mention as someone who also has OCD these kind of "YOU THE READER IS AT FAULT" posts is making me upset / paranoid even though I've not said or done anything but its making me second guess myself anyway due system amnesia.

i don’t doubt there’s probably some harassment, a lot of what both staff / devs and users are calling harassment is either criticism or just people expressing they’re upset at the situation or upset with the devs which is normal?? and expected?? you are shutting down an app in less than two weeks JUST after promising not to be shutting down anytime soon and encouraging already stressed people to use your platform

and the way most posts are calling out the reader is just,,, ugh,, the way a lot of people are typing their posts in defence if the devs is just disgusting and with no sympathy for other users and people

personally, i believe that if a tool helps somebody who is disabled with their disability it is an accessibility tool, even if they could technically manage it another way. We have ADHD, and we rely on accommodations at school to manage our ADHD. But, technically, we could manage our ADHD other ways, like we had been doing for all the years before we got diagnosed. its just much harder and not ebenficial for every person with ADHD, same with sp/octocon.

Yes, you can use a journal or ampersand to store system info and log fronts. But thats not all people used sp/octo for. A lot of systems used sp/octo to be able to show their friends and family who was fronting and other health information. Sure yes you could just tell them but thats much less convenient and not always applicable for systems who are nonverbal/nonscribal and/or otherwise cant communicate easily. Not to mention sp was great for having a website, which means systems in situations where they cant download apps on their phone (eg. parental controls) or who cant have a journal becaus of a risk of parents/other household members finding it can safely log their system info and track fronts. Not to mention the fact ampersand isnt available on IOS, so if you're an IOS user you cant track fronts. And no amount of journaling can replace a front tracker, it just not convenient at all.

Not to mention journaling isnt accesible for every system especially systems with dysgraphia or physical disabilities that affect their ability to write, and also its not convenient for systems with ADHD who are likely to forget about or lose the journal. Not to mention another greta part of sp/octo i sit being on your phone is great for systems with memory barriers so alters can never not know where the app is due to amnesia because it is on your phone.

Mullerian traits = parts of the mullerian duct (uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, ovaries, etc.) Estrogenized traits = traits that are the result of estrogenization either within the womb or during puberty (a mullerian duct, vulvas - labia, clitoris, vagina, etc - breasts, widened hips, a higher voice, less body/facial hair, etc) Androgenized traits = traits that are a result of androgenization either within the womb or during puberty (a wolffian duct, penises/larger phalluses, a scrotum, increased muscle mass, a deeper voice, more body/facial hair, etc) Androestrogenized traits = traits that are a mix of both estrogenized and androgenized traits. Mulleripathian (shortened to Mullpath) = the perisex "female" sex. Wolffipathian (shortened to Wolffpath) = the perisex "male" sex.

No traits should be described as "wolffipathian" or "mulleripathian", because every trait seen in perisex people can also be found in intersex people. By calling something "wolffipathian traits" and "mulleripathian traits" you're making perisexuality the standard, which is intersexist.
