For every shout you've ever made through my ears, a hate to myself has been made. "You are such a failure!" "I just hope that I never let you live as my child!" "You were born in this world to serve us!" "I don't have a stupid child!" I should be perfect; I must never fail. That's how my standards for myself have been made after those words that I heard from you. I am scared that you will shout at me again, just like you are stabbing me with your painful words that keep wrecking my ego. Stop; I want to be happy. Stop; I want to live on my own. I want to say those words, but my love for you stops me from doing it. I may sound pathetic, but I will keep on understanding you because I love you. I will keep on following you because I want you to be proud of me when the time comes.

Speak whenever you want, cry until your eyes are dry, hug me until you find calm. If you choose silence, I am willing to understand its meaning. When you feel judged by the world, I’ll shield you from those judgments. If loneliness surrounds you, I’ll be lonely alongside you. All you need to do is call my name, and I’ll be there. I may not be the best person in the world, but I’ll be a comforting presence during your toughest days. I’ll spread my arms to welcome you with a hug whenever your chest feels heavy with pain. I’ll never get tired listening to you. Rest assured that I am always here for you.

You are God’s instrument in raising me in this world. You taught me how to walk, fed me with your love, and made me feel deserving of the affection you’ve given me. Time flies by, yet you remain the same person I’ve always known. I feel sorry when I disappoint you with my academic performance, and I regret being rude to you out of anger. I apologize for my behavior and for sometimes mirroring your actions when you’re upset with me.

I hope you know how much I love you. I don’t want to see you cry because of problems I can’t help with. One day, I’ll make you proud as I pursue my dreams for our family. Thank you for the unwavering lessons you’ve patiently repeated to me.
