I think about this constantly. @lotsofdreamb0ats who let you get this funny.
(lineart versions under the cut:)
Watched Justice, The Lovers, The Sun, and Death 13 episodes today and had *slightly* more fun. Like so much still sucked so bad (the police in The Lovers doing the whole Orientalist "where I come from we chop off theives' fingers!" thing was disgusting) but at least the Death 13 episodes were INTERESTING.
I was excited for those because I'd actually seen those before and except for Kakyoin's Revenge (which I literally cannot watch. it haunts my waking hours) it was a good time. Legitimately that baby is so interesting to me. She raises so many questions that have VERY INTERESTING answers. I love her. She appears in two episodes and I'm glad she's kind of blorbo to me. Everyone else who likes those episodes likes them for Kakyoin (which is fair, those are fantastic Kakyoin episodes) but all my attention is for Mannisha.
Watched from Judgement to the Oingo Boingo brothers today. I hated most of it. The things that stood out to me:
Judgement - The whole thing sucked. Why was Fake Sherry naked if Fake Avdol was clothed. Literally just objectification of a teenage girl who was raped and murdered (fridged) simply to motivate her brother, and now Araki is dragging her naked corpse around for his own amusement. What the fuck. So unnecessary and disgusting. (Also, Why did the rest of the team drag the Avdol-is-dead farce on for so long? Once they were on the island, there was no benefit to that. Just torturing Polnareff with grief. I don't even like Polnareff that much but he did NOT deserve that shit.)
High Priestess - This entire arc was fucking dripping in misogyny. Why are they lying to Suzie. WHY DOES THE BUTLER KNOW BUT NOT HER?? "Oh, we shouldn't worry her" BITCH SHUT THE FUCK UP SHUT THE FUCK UPPP!!! Her daughter is DYING. ACTIVELY. Why is it so goddamn imperative that you lie to your wife??? And then Joseph made Jotaro get in on it too!! He sent him dirty looks whenever Jotaro didn't follow Joseph's "lie to Suzie" plan TO THE LETTER! I hate that shitty old man so much . . . And then it gets WORSE with Midler being like "Ooo, Jotaro's my type" and then Polnareff making sexual comments about her mangled body. Either she's a minor and Polnareff was creeping on a teenager, or she's an adult and she was creeping on a teenager! Polnareff is a creep either way, but holy shit this episode sucked so bad.
Geb - not a fan of Iggy, but I'm kinda on his side. He didn't sign up for this. Let him leave. The fuck. N'Doul is cool, but there were some ableist tropes that I didn't appreciate, like the grayed-out eyes. Also, it was weird how he heard through "sound" but never heard them talking. He was listening to vibrations through sand. Just say what he's actually doing. Fuck's sake.
Oingo Boingo Brothers - Thank goodness for those stupid brothers <3 that episode was a lot of fun.
Watched the Anubis fight today. Actually had a pretty good time.
- Polnareff nearly getting the Sweeny Todd special. Deserved. Why in the world would you give the barber the sword. Leave it with Jotaro in the waiting area. What's wrong with him, genuinely.
- Polnareff getting mind controlled and forced to fight Jotaro, and Jotaro being upset and concerned. Yesss, child, feel some emotions.
- Jotaro being genuinely concerned for his life :D and then turning around and letting himself get severely injured in order to defeat the sword. Emotional state not doing too hot, queen?
- "If you don't stop, it's murder" Jotaro regarding the sentient sword as a full living being <3 I love sentient stands <3
- Jotaro actually having to experience a serious injury and feel exhausted for once <3<3<3 Araki took it away too fast for my liking, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.
- Anubis accidentally defeating himself/Iggy defeating Anubis. Good comedic bit to end a good fight.
All in all, pretty good :)
Watched the Mariah and Alessi episodes today
If I had watched this series in order, I would have stopped watching the show entirely.
D'Arby the Gambler: i had the "Jotaro Doesn't Know How To Play Poker" post rotating through my head the whole time :) fun. Also the previews of Splat using The World :D
Hol Horse & Boingo: every Boingo episode is a hit with me π hell yeah you funky little dude
Pet Shop: The fight itself was good, and I like the permanent injury Iggy got (tho I am still on Team Why Did You Have To Bring The Dog Into This. Leave Him Alone). I was NOT a fan of the "beggar is secretly rich" trope. What the fuck, Araki.
Watched the first two episodes of D'Arby the Player today, haven't seen the conclusion of the fight but ngl I'm a little bummed that Kakyoin didn't win π as soon as he said "I'll go first" i knew he was going to lose, but I was really hoping that Jotaro would go first, lose, and then Kakyoin would save him. Looking back, I understand my foolishness. Araki would never let his Manly Man Main Protagonist lose a fight and need to be rescued. My bad for thinking something interesting would happen in Part 3.
Finished The Player (good, though the reveal of the trick was slightly underwhelming. At least it was teamwork).
Watched the Vanilla Ice episodes.
I knew Avdol was going to die but DAMN that was so fast :( #itshouldhavebeenPolnareff
Iggy really pulled his weight in this fight. The Fool really is versatile, and it was fun to see Iggy make full use of his sandbending powers one last time π RIP #itshouldhavebeenPolnareff
Finished the DIO fight last night . . . It was pretty good. Watching Jotaro kill himself in real time was fun. His body moved on but his soul stayed dead and all that.
I wish Joseph had stayed dead. I knew he wasn't going to, but I really, really wished he would . . . Sort of in the way I wish Orpheus and Eurydice make it out of Hadestown together. The song is already written the story is already over but I can't help but hope and think "maybe this time"
Overall opinion on P3: Not Even Remotely Worth It.
BONUS ROUND: OVA
Just as racist & sexist as the anime, just less "downtime" for the characters to really get into it π ughhhhh this place is a prison
Most of the first half was pretty rushed, even without comparing it to the pace of the anime. I did like a few of the scene contractions for the sake of flow, however some fights were simplified or eliminated entirely, making some dialogue seem unnatural later.
However, besides that ohhhh baby it was all worth it to get to the Enya fight π
That fight is 1000% times better than the Justice fight is in the anime, hands down, no contest.
Everyone was involved, giant floating fog Stand manifestation, the sheer intensity, and best of all AVDOL CAME BACK EARLY WITH A SICK AS HELL ENTRANCE πππ AVDOL ILY
That alone would make the fight awesome, but I think the version of the OVA that I'm watching was edited or something, because slightly before Avdol appeared, "Lay All Your Love On Me" by ABBA started playing? The audio was mixed kind of badly but it fit the fight scenes surprisingly well?? And it made the fight even more cool??? I feel like the original cut of the OVA didn't have that but am I wrong????
OVA PART 2:
Okay, I watched the rest of it and yeah, it was edited to include "Lay All Your Love On Me", as well as "The Resistance" by Skillet during odd chunks of the DIO fight. In the fake credits at the end the editor said they did that to practice for fan edits and such, so mystery solved on that front.
The artsyle was so inconsistent that it felt physically painful at times. I get that the first half of the OVA was done way before the second half or whatever, but the artstyle changed NOTICEABLY from one half to the next. Kakyoin had cartilage piercings consistently for the whole first half, but goung into the second half they were lobe piercings most of the time. Against all odds, everybody got uglier. Iggy slowly animorphed into a Minecraft dog instead of a human-faced beast. What was that.
Holly and Suzi Q had a little scene together, but it was so sudden and without any buildup to Suzi's presence that it felt odd and jarring. If Holly had enough strength to rouse herself from that coma just to give a pep talk to her two male relatives who weren't even in the room, she should have had the strength to survive getting a Stand π
There were only two fights before getting to the mansion (N'Doul and D'Arby the Gambler), where they immediately fought Vanilla Ice & DIO. Avdol got Nukesaku'd AND Creamed, which was unfortunate :( but at least he was a good character until the end. Kakyoin got a sick entrance scene that I liked better than his reappearance in the anime (all he did differently was lose against D'Arby the Player instead of saving Joseph from DIO, there's a clear winner here).
I've been largely avoiding any mention of ships during my reviews, but Vanilla Ice in this somehow comes off as even MORE down bad for DIO - and with DIO doing all that in front of the invading party, it feels less like a threat and more like BDSM exhibitionism. I really see why so many people ship them so hard; that was wild.
The quality of the DIO vs. Jotaro fight was about the same as the anime in my opinion, although DIO was slightly spookier in the OVA.
Anyways, the best part of the OVA by a mile was the Enya fight with "Lay All Your Love On Me" edited over it. 10/10 for that part, and a very generous 4/10 for the rest of it.
Watched Justice, The Lovers, The Sun, and Death 13 episodes today and had *slightly* more fun. Like so much still sucked so bad (the police in The Lovers doing the whole Orientalist "where I come from we chop off theives' fingers!" thing was disgusting) but at least the Death 13 episodes were INTERESTING.

β¦does LARP mean something different now??? Is it not live action roleplay anymore???
Some douchebags online decided that "larp" means "poser" now and they're trying to get the rest of us to bend to their will and besmirch the good name of the Live Action Roleplayer community.

At this point, 90% of my Tumblr drafts are reblogged posts about JJBA parts I haven't read yet
I wish I could consistently send asks to people without Tumblr losing them in the mail :(

I love the sheer number of transfem headcanons for Mannish Boy. More of this.
WHO ELSE IS DOING THIS I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
jojos sucks because none of the protag dudes ever summons his stand for the first time and is like hhey avdol why is mine a girl
Chipped my right top incisor again π

Okay, it's been a few hours since I watched the Alessi episodes, and I'm still upset, so I'm writing down my thoughts here
CW: discussion of fictional sexual assault of a child and predatory behavior
