I donât think thereâs anything inherently wrong with relating to characters, âtheyâre literally meâ etc but if thatâs the only way you engage with stories youâre kinda missing the whole point of Characters being vehicles through which we can see perspectives outside of our own. and also youâre going to get upset when the Character acts in a way that is not Personally Relatable to You
it's very frustrating seeing otherwise well-structured posts about media literacy and critical thinking bookended with statements about "nowadays", "nobody has literacy anymore", "this generation is so anti-intellectual", and the like, unquestioningly falling into better past fallacies.
Do we really think the 80s and its Satanic Panic were better at critical thinking? what about the 40s? the Victorian era? societies have always had problems with critical thinking and literacy, because most societies have dealt with propaganda, corrupt leadership, difficulty providing education (due to poverty or discrimination or other issues), and/or people who resist critical thinking (due to privilege or circumstance or what have you). we can criticize media trends without pulling a "well back in the GOOD OLD DAYS" about it.

It is absolutely immoral, completely counterproductive to the goal of learning things, and turns out incredibly subpar work.
As for unavoidableâŚ.you understand that the vast majority of people who have ever graduated college throughout history did so without ever once using AI, right? You understand that?
You understand that the point of writing papers isnât just to have a paper with words on it, right? You understand that the entire point is to do the mental work necessary to put your learning into organized words, such that you actually learn it? And that if you outsource that to AI you are not learning?

One of the pregnancy books I've got (What to Expect When You're Expecting (yes I've got multiple pregnancy books)) talks about nutrition during pregnancy and more than once it says "Good news! Now that you're pregnant, you have an excuse to stop dieting!" and I just find that. sad. Like our default state should be to always diet and always deny ourselves and the only way to get out of it is to be growing a whole new person because otherwise why wouldn't you diet? You may not like it and in fact you're jumping at the chance to stop now but you have to be dieting right? Obviously once you've given birth you won't have an excuse anymore and you'll have to go back to the dieting and the weighing and the denying yourself little pleasures but hey! For the next little bit you have an excuse not to!

And I know she was trying to compliment me, but I thanked her briefly and kept trying to change the subject because I hate diet talk, but she kept going with it. "You've kept the weight gain down! You've still got your figure!" I guess she got the wrong idea and thought I feel bad about how I look right now? I mean. 1, I look like an egg right now, I really don't mind, 2) I'm being realistic, my body will not look the same after the birth and my old pants aren't going to fit and probably a lot of my pre-pregnancy shirts won't either, and 3) I'm growing two new human beings and I think that's kinda more important than my figure. I was chubby before pregnancy and I'll be chubby after and that's just fine, I don't care. But I guess the only important thing is how I look after huh
