Sunday morning, Louis slips out of bed to make some coffee in the kitchen; he returns with two mugs, gently waking you when he sits back down on the bed.

“Morning, babe,” he says, holding out one of the mugs of coffee. “Coffee?”

You perk up when you see the coffee mug being handed to you, reaching out to grasp it. Taking a sip, you reply, “thank you. Good morning.”

You and Louis slowly sip your coffees, enjoying your lazy morning; by the time you’ve finished, you make your way to the bathroom to take a shower together. After heating up the water, both of you step in; as the hot water cascades over you, Louis pulls you close to him, pressing kisses on the side of your jaw and neck. His hands glide over your body, finding your ass and squeezing it, grinding your hips into his.

Thursday goes by pretty quickly; when Friday morning rolls around, you find yourself at work, texting Louis and giggling instead of checking in-baskets and work-queues. You check your phone just as a message comes in from him.

Sooooo do you wanna come over to my place tonight?

He sends another message after that one.

We could walk down to one of the bars, or just chill... up to u

You smile reading his message, then type out your response.

Yeah, I’m down! I’ll come over after work, just gotta stop at home and change

Setting your phone down on your desk, you wiggle your computer mouse, keeping the screen awake. You glance down at your phone again to see that Louis has replied.

Sounds good! Bring PJs :)

He quickly sends another text.

You blush, quietly giggling at his message and heart reacting to it before putting your phone away and going back to work.

After finishing the work day, you rush home on I-84. You quickly change into some leggings and a cute top before packing a small overnight bag with a pair of pajama shorts, your toothbrush, hairbrush, and your meds. Then you're back out the door. You send Louis a text on your way out.

After a short drive, you make it to Louis’ apartment building; you park on the street, sending Louis a text when you get there.

You grab your bag from the passenger seat and step out of the car; Louis walks out of his building, holding the front door open for you.

“Good to see you, love!” he says, grasping your waist and kissing your cheek as you walk into the building with him.

“You too!” you say, walking up the stairs with him.

He opens the door of his apartment, letting you inside. You set your bag down on the chair next to the daybed, then get comfortable on the daybed; Louis sits down next to you, placing a hand on your outer thigh.

“How was your day, darlin?” he asks, gazing affectionately into your eyes.

“Oh, it was fine, how was yours?” you ask, getting equally lost in his.

“Mine was just fine, much better now,” he says with a smirk. He stands up from the daybed, walking towards the kitchen, asking, “want a drink? I don’t have whiskey, but I do have wine!”

“Oooh, I’m down for wine!” you say.

“I’ve got some in the kitchen, let me go get it,” Louis replies, going into the kitchen and returning with a bottle of red wine, a bottle opener, and two stemless glasses. He sets them down on the coffee table in front of the daybed, then sits back down next to you and opens the wine, pouring you each a glass. “Cheers!” he says, clinking his glass against yours.

“Cheers!” you say, taking a sip of the wine.

“Morning, love,” Louis says, moving a strand of hair out of your face, sitting upright next to you on the daybed. The sun is just starting to come up outside - you can smell coffee as you start to awaken.

Groggily, you smile softly, replying, “good morning, Lou.”

Louis smiles warmly at you, finding your sleepiness extremely cute. In his hands, he’s holding a mug of coffee. “Made some coffee for you. It’s about six o’clock, figure you probably have to leave soon.”

You sit up a bit, taking the mug of coffee from his hands and taking a sip. “Oh my god, thank you so much,” you say. “You’re amazing.”

Louis chuckles. “No problem, love.”

You and Louis spend a bit in bed together sipping coffee; a little before seven o’clock, you call an uber back home so you can get ready for work.

As you're about to head out the door, Louis puts his hands on either side of your waist and kisses you; when he pulls away, he asks, “what are you doing this weekend?”

“Nothing yet,” you reply, a playful smile on your face.

“Wanna do something? The weather's supposed to be nice!” he says.

“I’m down!” you say, then place another kiss on his lips. “Bye, Lou, I’ll text you later,” you say as you head out the door.

“Talk to you later,” he replies with a wink.

The whole ride home, you can’t stop smiling in the backseat of the uber. You check your phone for the first time since last night; you have multiple texts from Jessie.

The alarm on your phone rings loudly next to your pillow, waking you from your deep slumber - you finally fell asleep just two hours ago. You were awake most of the night, paranoid about the conversation you’ll be having with Louis today, because it could be the end of your relationship.

You groggily roll out of bed and walk to the kitchen, then brew a pot of coffee. While the coffee is brewing, you go to the bathroom and wash your face, and brush your teeth and hair. By the time you come back out, the coffee is done - you pour yourself a cup and take a seat at the kitchen counter, scrolling through instagram for a few minutes.

After finishing your coffee, you get ready for work, then drive there - you spend most of the day thinking about how, exactly, you’re going to tell Louis you have HSV. It’s a conversation you’ve had to have numerous times in the past two years, but it’s never gone over well. You’re not sure if you’ve just not met the right person, or if you’re doomed for life.

Towards the end of the day, you pull out your phone and send Louis a text.

Can’t wait to see you tonight! :)

The work phone rings - you pick it up, scheduling an appointment for a patient, then checking your phone to see that Louis replied.

I can’t wait either! See u at 7 ;)

You smile at your phone, then put it back in your scrub pocket. His message gets you through the rest of your shift; you grab a redbull from the hospital cafeteria on your way out of work, then head home.

When you make it home, you quickly head to your room and change into some cuter clothes - you put on a short black dress with a chunky cardigan over the top, along with some black boots. Swiftly, you walk to the bathroom and freshen up your hair and makeup while calling the uber to the bar.

Just as you’re ready to go, the uber has arrived - when you get in the car, you send Louis a text letting him know you’re on your way.

You check the time - 6:42 PM. Right on time. Louis texts you back.

Sounds good, love. I’ll walk over there soon :)

It’s not long before you arrive at the bar; when you walk inside, Louis is sitting in a booth towards the back - he waves at you. You wave back, walking back to the booth to join him.

“Heyyy, good to see ya!” Louis says, wrapping a hand around the side of your waist and kissing your cheek as you slide into the booth next to him.

“Good to see you too!” you reply, setting your purse down next to you.

You both order your drinks and start chatting; you’re having a lovely evening together and, by the time ten o’clock rolls around, neither of you have noticed it’s been three hours.

Louis, with one hand on your thigh, checks his phone, then sets it down on the table. “Getting a bit late, love. Wanna come back to my place? We can smoke a J, chill...”

Your heart starts to race. Right now you have to either commit to telling him the truth, or postponing it again. You pause, thinking over your options - finally, you decide to just rip off the band-aid. You really want to go home with him. “Yeah... I’d like that,” you say, smiling up at him cheekily.

The beginning of the week has been pretty uneventful; Monday was crazy as always, and now you’re finishing up the end of Tuesday’s work day before heading home, then going out for tacos and margaritas with Jessie.

When you get home, you hang your keys on the hook by the door, kicking your shoes off in the entryway with an exhausted sigh. Jessie is sitting on the couch, scrolling on her phone.

“Hey Jess,” you say, walking towards your bedroom to change out of your scrubs.

“Hey dude,” she says, glancing up from her phone.

You walk into your room and quickly change into some jeans and a black band hoodie, then head back out into the living room, sitting next to Jessie on the couch. You pull out your phone, starting to check the price of ubers.

“Want me to call the ride?” you ask.

Jessie nods. “Sure, thanks.”

After calling the ride, you and Jessie get ready to leave - within ten minutes, your uber arrives, and the two of you head down to the parking lot to get in the car. The ride to the restaurant is short; when you arrive, the hostess seats the two of you at a booth in the back of the restaurant. You both order your usual margaritas and the conversation takes off.

“So, how was your night with Louis?” Jessie asks, taking a sip of her margarita.

Physically cringing, you pause for a moment, trying to think of the appropriate way to respond. “It was good…”

Giving you a suspicious look, Jessie presses. “That doesn’t sound convincing. Tell me more.”

Read From The Beginning

The “Sunday Scaries” hit you hard when you wake up the next morning - the combination of the excessive alcohol and the fact that you cried yourself to sleep makes it worse. When you check your phone, it’s still early; you set your phone back down, dreading the idea of getting out of the comfort of your bed.

Thoughts race through your mind as you replay your date from the night before. Fondly, you think back on how it felt to grasp Louis arms while you kissed him - how it felt when his hands explored your body.

Each of those memories is tainted, though - because you can only think about how you ruined the night. Internally, every worst-case-scenario is playing through your head:

What if Louis rejects me when he knows the truth? I mean... I wouldn't blame him. But I really like him. What if this is how it always goes? What if I'm going to be alone forever?

You sigh, finally pulling yourself upright - you check your phone again. There’s a text from Louis. A soft smile appears on your face; your anxiety quiets down just a bit.

Good morning, gorgeous :)

Your smile grows a little wider. You text him back instantly.

Good morning :) how r u?

Louis texts back a couple minutes later.

I’m good! Just woke up, hbu?

Still laying under the covers, you type out your reply.

I’m alright, lowkey hungover LOLOL

The typing bubble appears right away, then Louis replies.

Oh nooo I’m sorry love :(

You text him back right away.

It’s ok, I’ll be alright haha

Louis replies two minutes later.

Haha good. I was gonna ask u... are u down to go to the coast with me today? I was thinking Cannon Beach. It’s like an hour and a half drive

You smile at your phone, checking the time again - it’s still only ten o’clock. You text him back.

I’d love to! Always down for a spontaneous beach adventure :)

Louis texts you back immediately.

Getting out from under the covers, you text him back.

Quickly, you get out of bed and start getting ready. When you check the weather, you see that it’s supposed to be in the 50-60 degree range, but it should be mostly sunny today - just a chance of rain in the afternoon. You decide to put on some leggings, a cute top, and a light jacket.

You head to the kitchen to fill up your water bottle and grab your bag; your phone buzzes in your pocket. A text from Louis.

Here :)

While putting the cap on your water bottle, you head out the door and down to the parking lot; Louis is waiting outside in a black Subaru. You open the door and step in the passenger seat, then buckle your seatbelt.

Louis leans over the center console and kisses you. “Hey, darlin,” he says, putting the car in drive.

Your excitement wakes you up at the crack of dawn on Saturday, despite the fact that it’s the weekend. Rather than trying to force yourself to go back to sleep, you decide to go on a short hike. It’s not raining this morning, and it’s early enough that the trails probably aren’t too crowded yet.

You get out of bed and throw on some leggings and an athletic top, then find some walking shoes. Quietly, you slip into the kitchen, so as to not wake up Jessie. You grab a water bottle out of the cabinet and fill it with water, then head out the door, swiping your keys off of the hook by the door on your way out.

When you get down to your car, you put in the directions for Wahclella Falls. It’s a straight shot, but you always miss the exit. You drive about twenty minutes to get there and park in an open spot; when you get out of your car, you lock it, then head out to the trail.

The hike is peaceful - you only see a few other people on the trail. The sun is just coming up as you’re starting the hike, and the sky is painted with different pinks and oranges and blues. The sounds of the waterfalls and giant rustling trees calm the constant stream of thoughts that have been bouncing around your head all week; the outing is a full nervous system reset.

When you make it back to your car, you take in one more breath of fresh air before heading back home. At this point, it’s late morning, the sun is up, and Jessie is probably getting ready for work.

You arrive at home, and, when you get inside, Jessie is putting on her shoes, purse slung over her shoulder. “Hey, Jess,” you say, hanging your keys up on the key hook as you walk inside.

“Hey,” she says, clearly in a hurry.

“Heading to work?” you ask, walking into the kitchen while unscrewing your water bottle’s cap.

“Yup. Seeing Louis tonight?” She asks, grabbing her keys from the hook.

“Yeah,” you say, a smile forming on your face as you refill your water bottle.

“Have funnnn,” she says, opening the door to head out.

“Thanks Jess! See ya later!” you call out as she closes the door.

You take a big sip of your water, then head to the bathroom and turn on the shower to start warming up. When you step into the hot water, you let it wash over you, savoring the sensation of it on your skin, taking your time while you wash your hair and body - you still have several hours till you need to leave for Louis’ show.

When you get out of the shower, you dry your body with a towel, then blow dry your hair. After unplugging your hairdryer, you check your phone for notifications. You see that you got a text from Louis thirty-two minutes ago.

Hey :) how are u?

You smile at the message, replying back immediately.

Good! Just got back from a hike a bit ago :) how are u?

Setting your phone back down on the bathroom counter, you wrap yourself in a towel, then pick your phone back up and meander back down the hall to your bedroom. You close the door behind you, and your phone buzzes in your hand - a text from Louis.

Oooo a hike sounds fun! I'm good, just getting ready for the show tonight

Your phone buzzes again, another message.

U can come early! Sound check is at 6

You glance at the time in the corner of your screen. 2:13 PM. You text him back within a couple minutes, trying not to sound too excited.

The next day drags on, but when it finally comes to a close, you clock out for the day and head out to your car. Only a light drizzle today; you don’t even bother to put your hood up during your short walk through the parking lot.

As you’re pulling onto I-84 - into the sea of rush hour traffic - like you do every day, your music stops playing and your phone starts ringing. A call from Louis. You smile, reaching forward to hit the “answer call” button.

“Hey, love, how are you?” Louis asks, his voice warm and comforting.

It’s as if you can feel all of your frustration wash away. “Oh, y’know, sitting stopped on 84 in a sea of cars. What else is new.” You laugh. “How are you?”

“Oh god, I’m sorry, darlin,” he says. “I’m good! Getting ready to go to practice.”

“Oh nice!” you reply, attempting to merge into the far left lane. “Let me in, asshole!” you yell, frustrated with another driver in traffic.

Louis laughs. “...you good?”

You aggressively merge left. “Yeah, we’re good, sorry.” You chuckle, continuing, “that’ll be nice, though! How long is practice?”

“Probably a couple hours,” Louis replies. “I was gonna ask you something by the way. Do you wanna come to my show this weekend? It’s on Saturday. On the East side.”

You smile, feeling excited thinking about the idea of seeing Louis again in person. “I’d love to!”

“Great! I’ll text you the info,” Louis says, sounding just as excited as you are.

You and Louis continue chatting your whole drive home, and even for a few minutes in the parking lot.

“Alright Louis, I really gotta go - Jess and I are getting tacos and margs tonight, I can’t be late. We go every Tuesday. It was nice chatting with ya,” you say, part of you wanting to stay in your car and keep chatting with him.

“No problem, love, have fun! Talk to you later,” Louis replies.

“Byeeee,” you say, hanging up the phone. You grab your bag and head upstairs to your apartment; when you unlock the door, Jessie seems to be in a much better mood than the last time the two of you talked.

“Hey hey,” she says, sitting at the kitchen counter with a glass of rosé.

“Heyyy,” you reply, dropping your bag on the counter and sitting on the barstool next to hers. “Pregaming for margs?” you chuckle.

“Just one glass,” she laughs. She turns to you, placing a hand on your forearm. “Hey, I wanted to apologize. I didn’t want to come off as mean or whatever. The other day. I just love you and hate seeing you get hurt.”

“It’s okay, thank you dude. I appreciate you,” you reply, embracing her in a hug. “I need to go get ready. Be back in a minute.”

You stand up and walk to your bedroom, where you quickly change into some high waisted black jeans, a crop top, and your favorite jean jacket. When you walk back out to the living room, Jessie is calling the uber to the Mexican restaurant you guys go to every week.

“Ready?” she asks, before downing the last sip of her rosé.

Grabbing your purse off of the hook by the door, you reply, “yup!”

Jessie looks down at her phone and says, “sweet, uber’s here. Let’s go.”

You both head out the door, making sure to lock it behind you. You make your way down the stairs to the parking lot where your uber is waiting; after confirming the license plate and the name of the driver, both of you hop in the back seat.

It’s a short drive to the restaurant, maybe ten minutes. Jessie thanks the driver as you both exit the car and walk towards the restaurant.

When you get a table, both of you immediately order margaritas. Yours is a frozen strawberry margarita, Jessie’s is a classic on the rocks. The drinks start flowing, and it’s not long before you’ve forgotten the conflict that existed between the two of you a couple days ago. You’re laughing together and having a great time.

Jessie is on her third margarita when she finally asks you about Louis. “Okay okay okay. Fine. So tell me about the guy. What’s his name? Loki?”

You burst out laughing, also on margarita #3. “LOUIS!! His name is Louis!”

CHAPTER 3

The following morning, you sleep in again - you and Louis were up until dawn on facetime. It’s Sunday, though, which means you have a lot of preparing to do for the work week ahead.

After checking your notifications and savoring the comfort of your bed for just a little longer, you toss the covers off of your body, then sit up and stretch. You get out of bed and make your way to the kitchen, where you can smell coffee brewing.

When you walk into the kitchen, Jessie is standing in the corner, dressed for work, putting a piece of bread in the toaster. There’s music playing on the TV in the living room. You reach into the cabinet next to the fridge and grab a mug, then walk over to the coffee pot to pour yourself a cup.

“Morning, Jess,” you say, bringing your mug over to the kitchen counter and taking a seat.

“Morning,” she replies, grabbing a granola bar out of the pantry and putting it in her purse.

“Leaving soon?” you ask, taking a tiny sip of your piping-hot coffee.

“Yeah,” she says, taking her toast out of the toaster. She spreads some jam on it and takes a bite, standing on the opposite side of the counter. “Gotta leave here in a few.”

“Gotcha,” you reply, glancing down at your phone to check your notifications.

“You were up late,” Jessie says, a bit snarkily.

You chuckle nervously. “Yeah...”

She gives you a disapproving look. She then finishes her toast quickly and grabs her purse. On her way out the door, she calls out, “see ya later!”

“Later!” you say, waving goodbye as she leaves for work.

After Jessie leaves, and you finish your cup of coffee, you walk back to your bedroom and gather a pile of dirty scrubs. You carry them across the hallway and toss them into the washing machine and start the wash cycle.

Your phone buzzes in your pocket - you check it immediately. A smile lights up your face when you see that it’s a text from Louis.

Good morning love :)

Quickly, you text him back, still standing in front of the washing machine.

Morning, Louis :) how’s it going?

You put your phone back in your pocket and walk back into your room and start tidying up. You spend the afternoon tidying up your room, cleaning the shared spaces, and going to the grocery store. Saturday morning - your head is pounding. You wake up with a dry mouth, feeling fairly nauseous. You reach for your phone on your nightstand. 11:30 AM. You breathe a sigh of relief because it’s Saturday - your plans for the day include doing absolutely nothing.

Begrudgingly, you get out of bed to use the bathroom and get a glass of water. Then, immediately get back under the covers. You can hear raindrops tapping against your window - it feels tranquil. You start scrolling through the pictures and videos you took at the band showcase last night; they turned out really better than you expected.

When scrolling through your camera roll, you come across some pictures and videos of Louis; you smile, remembering back to the two hour conversation you guys had at the bar last night. Then, it occurs to you that, in your drunken haze at the end of the night, Louis put his number in your phone. Quickly, you open up your contacts and search for him.

There he is. Saved under “Louis - Dante’s”. As if you would forget where you met him - as if you had another Louis in your phone. You stare at the number for a solid minute, contemplating whether you should reach out. That’s when you remember Louis, the night before, telling you, “you better text me, love.”

You mutter to yourself, “fuck it,” and draft up a text to Louis. You decide to keep it short and sweet.
