Defense for Miho Nosaka (YuGiOh)
Okay so this submission is four years old but idc, my girl Miho needs to be defended
First point submitted for why fandom hates her: “She’s whiny”
I’d like to say ‘bitch where?’ Miho Nosaka is smiling and cheerful about 95% of the time. Doesn’t matter what’s happening to her, she’s got a positive look on life and floats through it with a smile on her face. The only times I can remember her actually “whining” was when she had legitimate reasons to be upset: Honda lost her expensive watch, she’s about to get turned into a figurine by Bakura, etc, etc. That’s not even whining, though, that’s just being a normal human being.
Second point: “makes Honda do everything for her”
Okay I’m not going to deny that she can be a bit manipulative but Honda sets himself up for that. She says one fucking sentence and he’s immediately jumping up before she can even ask him for something. She lets out a “I’m hungry” and he’s already running down the hall to go buy lunch for her. Anything Honda does at her request, he does of his complete free will, because he likes her. Does Miho kinda take that to her advantage? Yeah, she does, but honestly it’s not like she’s forcing him to do anything.
To put it in perspective, the typical “manipulative mean girl” will often tell people that they “won’t be friends with them” if they don’t do as they ask. Miho never does this. She asks Honda for things, like to stand in line for her to buy the watch she wants, but she never gives him an ultimatum. She just asks because he’s a friend and seems to want to do things for her a lot, so why not ask him? And it’s not like she’s leading him on, either, because she never once implies that she’s promising something in return for his actions—she just asks for a favor and because Honda is Honda, he jumps all over that request and does it.
Third point: “wants a ton of things she can’t afford”
okay
really
who doesn’t
just because Miho is obsessed with jewelry and fancy clothes and accessories doesn’t mean that’s wrong
I mean, doesn’t everyone want things that they can’t buy? Look at gaming, with people dropping thousands on consoles and games. Is it because she’s interested in typically girly things that people dislike her for this? Is it just because she spends her money on expensive watches and bracelets and clothes that it’s not okay?
Yes, she’s materialistic—very materialistic. But isn’t everyone on some level? Things are nice. There’s nothing wrong with liking and wanting things. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Miho enjoying herself in the way that she chooses; it seems wrong to shame her for something like that.
ALSO! She goes out of her way to get a part-time job with Anzu once she finds out Anzu’s secret, because she wants to buy things for herself. Can’t afford the things she likes? Well, she’s clearly willing to work for them. You even see her getting another part-time job after Anzu gives up when the burger place is shut down.
She’s materialistic, yes, but she’s clearly more than willing and capable to work for what she wants. So what’s the problem?
Fourth point: “endangers Honda’s life several times”
……WHEN?!?!?!??
I’ll admit it’s been a little while since I’ve seen the anime but I cannot remember??? One time?? When this happened?????? I read the episode summaries again and once more I cannot figure out when it happened?? Miho can be airheaded, but she’s never put anyone in direct danger.
Now here are the points why Miho is amazing.
