Today is the only day ever for the rest of time that you can reblog this

ââŚDo you think heâs gonna-â
BOOM.
âDo you think heâs gonna pick a fight with the guys outside,â Heath was going to ask, but from how the store rattled and the windows along the front all cracked? It was a likely âyesâ.
âOf course he would. Please letâs just buy the groceries and leave, Iâm certain Chuh Yoong-Nim will deal with it.â
//He did NOT want to risk running into the cranberry-hired Reaper, thanks very much.//
A second, smaller rumble got the boys to nod. "I'd rather not get involved, yeah. Would self-checkout be faster?"
lostprogenitorâ:
âMaybe that theory that we seem different than humans or you holds weight though, if Heath scared him off.â Monty looked over the list one last time, but nodded as it was clearly done with.
âTrueâŚWell, I hope so, at least.â
//Maru sweated with a sigh.//
"...Do you think he's gonna-"
BOOM.
'Do you think he's gonna pick a fight with the guys outside,' Heath was going to ask, but from how the store rattled and the windows along the front all cracked? It was a likely 'yes'.
lostprogenitorâ:
Heath snorted. âYeah, when Dad was poking around last week looking at houses for sale, some guy tried to mug him. It apparently didnât end well for the other guy.â
ââŚI canât believe Iâm not more surprised at this.â
âI really canât.â

lostprogenitorâ:
Monty sat in the cart, blinking. âWait. That guy. âŚHeath, do you think thatâs the guy that tried to rob Dad?â
âWhat?!â
âAre you serious?!â
Heath snorted. "Yeah, when Dad was poking around last week looking at houses for sale, some guy tried to mug him. It apparently didn't end well for the other guy."
lostprogenitorâ:
âLetâs just finish up and go. Dadâs gonna want to know who that was, if he scared you so bad.â Heath grabbed the coffee brand listed there on the list, and set it in the cart.
âHeâs someone Iâve had to deal with a lot. Itâs strange though, the first time he seemed so ready to destroy everything around me and yet you managed to chase him off with a few words.â
Monty sat in the cart, blinking. 'Wait. That guy. ...Heath, do you junk that's the guy that tried to rob Dad?'
lostprogenitorâ:
But Heath didnât get closer, just stood there as a âmeat shieldâ. ââŚLook I know Iâm dumb, but Iâm not that dumb. Picking a fight where thereâs tons of witnesses against somebody Iâve never seen before? Heâs like twice as tall as I am, he could punt me through a wall!â
And then Monty nodded.
ââŚNot cool, bro.â
The guy in the hoodie just stared at them for a moment, before turning away and grabbing a bottle of cold coffee from the small refrigerator next to him.
//To his absolute relief, that guy decided to leave.//
âThat was extremely dangerous but good job you two.â
"Let's just finish up and go. Dad's gonna want to know who that was, if he scared you so bad." Heath grabbed the coffee brand listed there on the list, and set it in the cart.
lostprogenitorâ:
Monty was glaring at the guy, who almost didnât turn in time to spot them.
Heath immediately stepped between Maru and the new guy, looking unafraid but not giving the usual signals of a challenge with his body language.
âAh- Heath wait, donât go near him-!!â
//This was bad, really bad!//
But Heath didn't get closer, just stood there as a 'meat shield'. "...Look I know I'm dumb, but I'm not that dumb. Picking a fight where there's tons of witnesses against somebody I've never seen before? He's like twice as tall as I am, he could punt me through a wall!"

lostprogenitorâ:
Because as they rounded the corner to get more coffee (for if MuYeong visited), a familiar figure in a purple hoodie was scanning the display of energy drinks in those shot bottles.
âŚGreat.
//HIM?! HERE?! WHY?!? Oh his luck just HAD to be this terrible right when he has two precious darlings to protect right?!//
âHUK-!! O-Okay, letâs just back up, maybe we can get out of the crossfire-â

lostprogenitorâ:
So off they went. The aisle there meant being obscured from sight of the window, but that was both advantage and otherwise.
âDo you think theyâll get bored and leave?â
âI sure hope so. Itâd be nice to be able to go home without anything exciting happening.â
//And yet the moment he said it, Maru regretted tempting fate.//
Because as they rounded the corner to get more coffee (for if MuYeong visited), a familiar figure in a purple hoodie was scanning the display of energy drinks in those shot bottles.
...Great.
lostprogenitorâ:
âSame here, Maru.â Heath stuck closer after that, helping whittle down the list.
//Maru kept Monty placed so that the child was always watching behind them, their first alert in case something happened. He picked out a few jars of kimchis, allowed Heath to snatch up sweets to take back, and finished the rounds at the deli, asking for a few steaks heâd dice up for the curry.//
âHmm, this recipe might be even better with some brown sugar. Letâs make a quick trip back to the baking aisle.â
So off they went. The aisle there meant being obscured from sight of the window, but that was both advantage and otherwise.
"Do you think they'll get bored and leave?"
âHow do people even put up with me? Like, I canât even put up with me.â Heath was trailing close behind Maru, Monty in the Chachaoongâs arms as they shopped.
Monty giggled, but signed back, âYouâre my brother. Iâm desensitized to the chaos by now.â
@shygunfire
The boys gave subtle nods. âBut⌠should we just keep shopping for now?â
lostprogenitorâ:
The boys gave subtle nods. âBut⌠should we just keep shopping for now?â
âFor nowâŚBut stay aware of them. I may not be able to teleport* like Hyeong-Nim, but Iâll do my best to keep you two safe.â
//* - Speaking of MuYeongâs beast, of course.//
"Same here, Maru." Heath stick closer after that, helping wiggle down the list.

Monty nodded sagely, while Heath consulted the list and trotted a short ways away to grab some apples on sale.
No sign of those guys who'd been following Maru, until he glanced out the front window and saw them across the street.
Heath stayed quiet, but scampered back. "Uh, Maru?" he nearly whispered. "We might have a problem."

//Maru stiffened when he heard the whisper. Even among the chatter of the marketâs regular shoppers, it was easy to pick out that uneasy tone.//
âOkay. Just walk by my side. Thereâs another exit we can use. We canât make a scene or thereâll be far more trouble than we can handle.â
Monty watched the group from the corner of his eye. 'They're not following us inside. Aren't you all supposed to stay hidden from the public?'
Maybe they were actually safer inside, for now.

"Good." Heath grinned, his lemon-lime eyes crinkling at the corners.
Groceries were easy enough to gather, and checking out was only slightly embarrassing. (Why did every old lady insisted on commenting about Maru having kids around him, meaning they hadto correct them that the blonde was just babysitting? It got old really fast.)

âItâs silly, but I kind of enjoy the compliments.â
âI like being able to spend time with you and the others. But I feel oddly, I dunno? Proud?â
Monty giggled, but kept an eye on someone following them. 'Like a big brother?'
lostprogenitorâ:

âWell, I suppose yes, thatâs how I feel. I like being a big brother.â
âEven to Dom, I feel that way too. Though I donât think Iâd want you calling me âHyong-Nimâ anytime soon.â
"Yeah, that might give Dad ideas." Heath sighed. They had enough siblings already.
