Well, Luchei had officially decided that this whole thing was an absolute mess.
No one had any idea where they were, aside from hiding in a dark alley and behind an empty dumpster, away from prying eyes.
No one had really gotten a good look at the rift that had swept them up, though at least no one got separated. The only reason most of them knew it was a rift was that Monty used to get caught up in them a lot and recognized the feeling.
Also, Monty’s portal maker still wasn’t fixed yet. So they were stranded without a communication link to Dad.
And to make the whole matter worse, Dominique still couldn’t stand up under his own power. How he was even vaguely conscious at this point was a mystery. No one wanted to question it too hard, or to think about how long it would last.
He was nearly slouching against the rough alleyway wall, eyes low-lidded and distant as his breath rattled and wheezed softly against his healing ribs.
At least Gage was doing better, after that nasty ordeal. At least something was going right.
The whole brood was huddled close to one another, scared and confused.
And then Monty picked up a familiar scent on a stray breeze.
