Wondering if we can get some input: Many people have approached us about making our signs a permanent installation. What do you think? It would help spread awareness but doesn't necessarily put Knoxville in a good light...

I often hear from visitors to our city that Knoxville has done a good job keeping its old building stock. It's interesting to consider since, for those of us keeping an eye on such matters, it seem...
Hey there. I am a lifelong resident of Seymour / south Knox / Knoxville. Ha. I absolutely love these pictures. The missing history of our downtown is amazing! Are you aware of any other sites devoted to downtown Knoxville history? And again, I will be following this from now on and thank you!!!
Welcome! Thank you for following! There are many sites we use as resources and others who document aspects of Knoxville's history very well:

PechaKucha
We had an amazing time presenting last night at the PechaKucha Knoxville event! We have had such a great response and have been asked by multiple people to do the presentation again for other groups. If any of the upcoming presentations are public we will make sure to spread the word. Thanks to everyone who came out last night!

Is there any way you could add or find out when the buildings you post were demolished or restored? I think that would be a great bit of info to have and it would tickle my fancy to boot.
Yes! Thanks for the input! That is on the list of things to do. We’d like to get the dates built and dates demolished. Most of them were torn down in the late 70’s-90’s with a few in the 2000’s. As we get the information we will add it. Unfortunately, 2013 was a terrible year for historic preservation and for some reason there are more buildings in Knoxville that are currently pending demolition than in the recent past. (And unfortunately, all of the buildings we post have been demolished.)
