Syddawg: Why are you such a loser?

Me: Probably years of repressed "daddy issues", my inability to cope with loss in a healthy way, my staggering up and down moods that make me question my own sanity, my inability to understand the concept of letting things go i.e. exes and all the baggage that cold with them, and last but not least, my unhealthy need for vindication and revenge. That's why. In a nutshell.

Me: I think I'm going to cry.

I like to write things I’ve learned over the past year on my birthday.  It’s usually a list of things I’ve learned throughout the course of the year and sometimes, things I’ve learned over the course of my life.  Each year, the list gets bigger to coincide with my age.  

Here’s a less detailed list of what I wrote in August:

i. You don’t have to have it all figured out (especially not in your early 20′s)

ii. Eat the fucking pizza

iii. Choose kindness

iv. Be humble

v. Do whatever makes you happy (within reason of course...if murder is your thing, don’t do that)

vi. Learn to appreciate everyone’s differences

vii.  Empathy - If you can be a sincere, genuine, empathetic person, you’re fucking golden.

viii.  Be grateful

ix. Go outside

x. Don’t forget what it’s like to be kid 

xi.  Use your manners - This one kind of ties in to the choosing kindness and being grateful bit, but saying please, thank you, excuse me, etc. goes a long fucking way in this day and age.  

xii.  Say sorry- It’s easy to let your pride get in the way of saying sorry first (especially when you feel so vindicated and right about whatever you were arguing about). But, if someone’s feelings are genuinely hurt, just bite the bullet and say sorry.  I mean, is being right and keeping your pride in check more important than working toward a resolution with someone you care about?

xiv. Never stop exporting

xv. Drink more beer

xvi. Be generous - Pay it forward when you can.  Give the homeless dude your last tenner, pay for that woman’s coffee order, give your last bite to your drooling dog.

xvii. Go out with a positive heart

xviii. Have as much fun as possible

xiv. Complain less - No one loves a whiny bitch

xx. Do something nice for someone or something

xxi.  Never stop learning

xxii. Try new things

xxiii. Say,”I love you” more - Tell yo kids, yo wife, yo dog

: knows what?

: that I'm still sad. that I still hurt. that sometimes, I feel like she really fucked me up.

:...yeah. yeah.

: I'm really happy.
