â ââ ââ Imagine Being Assigned On A Particularly Dangerous Mission & You Leave Without Telling Them In Order To Protect Them, Not Realizing That You Broke A Certain Super Soldier's Heart. â ââ ââ "I'm sorry (Y/N)," Fury sighed, resting his hand on your shoulder in a fatherly way, which you shrugged off to turn to the Director with a fake, nonchalant smile. You loved Steve, but in your line of work being in love made you irrational and weak. "It's for the best," You assured him, displaying no emotion that would make him believe otherwise. Fury opened his mouth to disagree, but he could not waver the decision you had made. You would disappear from the lives of the Avengers without a trace, leaving them heartbroken, especially a Super Solider. "Agent (L/N), take care of yourself," Fury ordered in a soft voice, smiling sadly as he exited the communal kitchen in Stark Tower, leaving you to trudge up to your floor with a heavy heart to pack. â ââ You took a deep breath, adjusting your grip on the duffle bag that rested over your right shoulder. It had been almost eight months since you last laid eyes of Stark Tower and you weren't sure on how to approach this certain situation. Of course, you were trained to disarm a bomb within seconds and speak fifteen different languages with ease, but at the moment your training seemed useless. "Here goes nothing," You said aloud to no one in particular as you stepped inside the building, making your way to the elevator. The secretary barley spared you a glance busy ogling at one of Tony's more attractive clients. You smiled at the familiarity, chuckling lightly when you realized the music was actually an instrumental of ACDC's Highway To Hell. "Jarvis, could you please take me to the communal floor," You asked politely, waiting patiently for the AI to respond. However, the wait was short, despite the amount of time that had passed it seemed that the Jarvis knew exactly who you were as he responded quickly. "Miss (L/N), it's a pleasure to welcome you back," Jarvis greeted in a cheery voice as the elevator rumbled, signaling that you were traveling upwards to your intended destination. "Thank you, Jarvis." You replied warmly as you were reminded as to why you were so fond of Stark Tower. A moment passed before he spoke once more this time to your dismay "Shall I inform the others of your arrival?" He questioned, which was met by your silence. After three minutes the AI took the hint. "I'll take that as a No." You sheepishly smiled at the camera in the top right corner of the elevator before looking over at the door, waiting for it to open. When it did you took a deep breath, exiting the elevator and into the common room. "Jarvis, I told you not to let... (Y/N)?" Tony's annoyed voice trailed off as he stared at you in disbelief and relief, which left you speechless. You opened your mouth to say something, but nothing left your mouth. "I'm sorry.." You finally spoke, squirming uncomfortably at Tony's staring. Your words didn't seem appropriate in the situation, but it was the only thing that you could say. Tony didn't yell or scream like you assumed he would, instead he wrapped you in a tight hug. "You little shit," Tony huffed when he pulled away, poking you in the shoulder with his pointer finger. You raised an eyebrow in confusion as he continued. "Thanks to you we had to deal with a depressed Capsicle for the last few months, who has been too pathetic to insult may I add!" This time your eyes widened in concern and before Tony could say another word you were back in the elevator on your way to Steve's personal floor. â ââ You hesitantly knocked on the door, stepping back and waiting until the door swung open, revealing the super solider, who looked like a homeless bum. His hair was greasy and unkept, but his face was what broke your heart. The dark bags rested below his red, puffy eyes were saddening and seemed out of place on his handsome face, which had turned pale from lack of time spent outside. "(Y-Y/N)..?" He breathed, his usually happy blue eyes began to grow glossy as he stared down at your smaller form. You had left to protect your friends, but you came back to discover that you only hurt them in the process. "Oh, Steve," You spoke softly, launching yourself into his arms. He stumbled back, but wrapped his arms tightly around your waist, resting his head in the crook of your neck. He began to cry quietly, managing to explain how he thought he lost you between sobs and hiccups. "Don't leave," He cried, pausing to hiccup before continuing, "me again." "I'm so sorry, Steve," You cooed, stroking his greasy, blonde hair as he sobbed. You whispered sweet nothings into his ears, promising that you'd never him again. "Promise?" Steve whimpered, looking down at you like a child, who needed reassurance. His big, blue puppy dog eyes broke your heart. "I promise."
