                 wendy darling is the true embodiment of the gentle queen, the queen mother, the queen of peace. she conquers, not with a war cry, but with a soft beckoning. she comes to neverland and peter offers to kill the lost boys for her as they accidentally attacked her, and she tells him no. she, this newcomer to the island, tells the king no. she speaks from compassion and her command is subtle, she shows peter a better way, and he follows it. she doesn’t order her subjects about, she guides and nurtures them, and for that they adore her. for that, they obey her. these near feral boys wash themselves before dinner and take naps, all because it pleases wendy for them to do so. she is good, she is encouraging, yet she speaks with such surety that her will is followed without question. yet when she is angry or displeased? even the pirates, the great enemy of her subjects, felt ashamed at having disappointed her. she walks into a strange land, a place with wild children and deadly creatures and black-hearted pirates, and she is not afraid ——she looks about her and thinks, this can be mine, i can create peace here. and so long as she is in neverland, there is.
