Nosferatu is so smart.. I too would like to have Peter Lorre on a leash
Peter Lorre being 5'3 makes all the characters he played 5'3 (I know some sources says he's 5'5 but he is noticably shorter when standing next to people who's actually 5'5)
Anyways with this thought, Herman Einstein is then 5'3 and I dream of terrorizing him and holding his schnapps above his head and make him pathetically try to reach for it.
I love it when Herman Einstein scrunches his nose when he's laughing <3
Very cute, very kawaii <3 It reminds me of a cat :3

Women Scream at the Sight of Him
He said, "I am Peter Lorre"--and waited with a strange expression in his eyes.
"Women Scream At the Sight Of Him" by Faith Service, from Motion Picture (February 1935 Vol. XLIX No. 1)
Entire article under the cut. As always, keep a skeptical lookout - this article errs on the side of ridiculous, yet I do think this writer is a fan, whoever they really are.
I'm innocently reading the intro and instantly stumble over "a woman DIED in the audience one night..." bwhahahaha, oh I doubt it.
I also found an amusing typo: "Pioniere in Ipoplstadt" I don't know how you get that from "Ingolstadt," but somebody wasn't checking their sources. In fact there are multiple instances where it feels like the copy editor elided an important word or two? Oh well who cares, they got cheap magazines to sell. 😄
I do like how the author describes Peter's sweet face. Because he did have a sweet lil face. ^^ And it's true, he did have that deep understanding of human nature that allowed him to play so many different roles in unforgettable ways. It's why I always suspect that, in the absence of character backstory in the script, he would privately invent one and go from there.
I wish they really had made the Kasper Hauser movie. Damn, he would have been so perfect for it.
Arsenic and Old Lace is the first movie I saw that had Peter Lorre in because I saw ya'll on tumblr writing the craziest fanfics about Herman Einstein and I figured this must be Peter's most famous role judging by the amount of not-elderly girlies thirst posting about it.
Lorre after I used my time machine to show him my spongebob artbook and show him Slappy's page and tell him that this silly little fish was inspired by him. He is charmed by it. (He does not yet know how deranged I am about this)
Basically straight up Looney Tunes’ caricature of Peter Lorre, he chills on my website and keeps out the hackers while I’m away.

So I keep thinking about M and how Hans Beckert claims he isn't aware when he's committing the murders and I have to say I really do not believe him.
All of his actions leading up to the murders show that he is aware of what he's doing and at worst actively plotting this with a conscious mind.
I do not think someone like he describes himself to be would sending the police multiple letters taunting them about the murders he had committed.
Nor do I think all his victims would be the same (little girls). If it was truly insanity; at random then why is it the same vunerable population? The ones easiest to manipulate and the weakest to fight back? It takes conscious effort to chose to go after a vunerable demographic like that. It is not a random attack fueled by a moment of insanity.
But for a moment, lets believe his words. If we allow ourselves to believe he isn't actually aware of when he commits the murders. As he said he is only aware after he's done them and is horrified by his own actions. YET he still chooses to talk to little children, he choses to be friendly despite knowing himself to be danger to them.
At what point does he tap out and becomes unaware of his crimes? Where does his insanity start and end? What triggers it? He seems pretty aware when the mob is after him that he should run away, he knows what they are after them for while he was walking with a future potential victim. He knows.
Now this is not to say that I didn't enjoy the movie. I like the question it presents and the messy gray morality of it. I think Lorre's performance was spectacular and I think does the most to sell the fact that Hans might be innocent/insane, but at the same time, thinking about his actions, Hans seems mostly competent in his actions, I just can't buy it. Lorre's big sad wet eyes does a lot of the heavy lifting here lol

Seeing this is like seeing sketches of the Mona Lisa
Does the person who drew this knows the profound impact it had on my life? Are they aware that this single shot is what sparked a 5 year (and ongoing) obsession with Slappy and all things Peter Lorre related?
Peter Lorre. Circa 1938. Colourised by me. Find more here.

Here's a screencap of the original post.
I love this picture cuz Lorre and a skull, death, my pattern seeking brain associating lorre and death with his silly fish. Fits perfectly with my theme <3
