These panels are so important. As I've mentioned, Inuyasha & Kikyo bonded over shared pain, trauma, and loneliness. Within that relationship, while it may have brought comfort there was no space for acceptance - seeing as she wanted to change him into a human - nor celebration since it was all business all the time. There was nowhere for their relationship to go and it ending with them one of them dying should have killed the relationship too. Kagome has openly, vulnerably, and unconditionally trusted, held space for, and celebrated with Inuyasha. She dreams of a future with him, where she cooks for him and takes care of him. He acts like a puppy little jerk when visiting her at her home because he feels safe being his most immature self in her presence. They may fight together and cry together, but they also dream together too. They gossip about their friends relationship, they seek affection from each other, and have fun! None of that can happen in a relationship that is stuck on past trauma.
