The first illustration is for @thdungcutenntg’s OC. Yes, I’ve already posted this artwork before, but I wanted to share my thoughts while drawing it. I think drawing their OC in their own art style was really cute and fun to do! Most of my time went into drawing the clouds and the OC’s dress. I struggle a lot with drawing skirts that look like they’re floating in the air, so this was definitely a challenge for me. I also noticed that they ship their OC with Wally, so I added a small detail: their OC is holding Wally’s favorite red apple (more specifically, a candy apple) — it’s meant as a gift for Wally. There’s also a tiny tag that says “For Wally”, though it might be hard to see because it’s small.

Second drawing — OC by @darkxwolf80. I think their OC is very unique, and I really love the design. To be honest, I really struggle with drawing Barnaby’s body, so I decided to cover part of it with flowers and their OC, and I think the result actually worked out pretty well.

Third drawing — OC by @pickupbar3. At first, I wanted to add some Gyaru-style elements to their OC, because their design gave me Gyaru vibes. The OC’s creator even said it was okay. However, after thinking about it more, I decided not to go too far with it. Instead, I added a few subtle Gyaru-inspired details in the background, like long eyelashes and pink bows. The OC’s creator was incredibly kind and complimented me a lot — I was honestly a bit embarrassed... They even used this drawing as their profile picture for a while. Even though they’ve changed it now, it still made me really happy!

Fourth drawing — OC by @sage_artzzz. To be honest, I feel like this one turned out really bad. I don’t know why, but I suddenly felt like I forgot how to draw. The body proportions feel very off, and the colors don’t feel right either. Even so, the OC’s creator asked if I wanted to be friends — of course I said yes! They also told me I’m talented, but when I look at this drawing, I feel like I might have disappointed them. But the most important thing: they drew my OC, Noe!!! And it looks amazing! This is the first time someone has ever drawn my OC, and I’m genuinely so grateful. I really, really love it!!!

Saw someone say (in a reply, apparently not proud enough to put it in a reblog) that "appropriating medical terminology means nothing."

Which is such a stupid take. Are you cool with non-autistic people saying they have a special interest? Neurotypical people saying they have a "hyperfixation" and it's just something they kind of like?

This sort of thing waters down the meanings of words made specifically for people with certain conditions.

The term "system" to refer to plurality originated in clinical contexts, regarding DID. You are right in that they said "system of parts" or "system of personalities".

In the 90's, online DID (at the time called MPD) survivor groups shortened this to "system" for easier use.

Later in the 90's, people started using the term "multiple," and discussing the existence of natural or non-disordered plurality. Folks with DID and non-disordered/natural plurals were using the word multiple. The communities mixed. Those without DID/OSDD started using "system," likely because everyone else in their community was using it.

I do not believe this was malicious, but I do believe it causes confusion. Especially to those outside our communities, if a person knows the word "system" in this context at all, it is "someone with DID (maybe OSDD) aka "multiple personalities.")

And so when people hear "non-disordered system" or "system without trauma," they stop and go "wait wait wait you can't do that." Ever wonder why? It's not necessarily hating multiplicity/plurality (though some people do: my mother, for instance, believes we are possessed by a demon.) They believe it is faking a disorder, because the language of that disorder is being used. I can't really blame them for coming to this conclusion, with the knowledge they have.

We are not talking about solar systems or ecosystems. We are talking about "system" in the context of plurality, yes? People did not just discover this word on their own ("oh yeah like an organ system!") and start using it.

I think we could start to solve this ongoing confusion by using other words. I have recently started doing this for my own collective. I used to use the word "system," but when approached with the history of the term, changed it.

CONLINGUIAN

A Conlinguian (or Conlenguian) is a headmate who makes languages specifically for internal system usage. This can be for a number of reasons, such as keeping things private, journaling, wanting to seperate the system from external language, or a need for an alternative language to be used collectively to define their experiences as a system with their own words.

They might also engage in making constructed languages (or conlangs) externally as well, but this isn't a requirement.
