In the Austin arts world, the Austin Critics Table (ACT) nominations came out today. The critics, I assume, met, discussed, and then nominated artists, performers and organizations for outstanding work in various fields from visual art and dance, to classical music and theater.

Since I consider myself a critic in the area, and was not invited to join in on the deliberation or consulted with, I question the legitimacy of the nominations in the visual arts. That last part is a joke BTW, I don’t take myself that seriously, but by stating that it gives me reason to go where I’m planning with the rest of this post. It’s has been noted by some arts leaders in this town that the visual arts lacks coverage in this town and therefore, these nominations can’t possibly reflect what actually went down this past year. This must be remedied, and I humbly offer my nominations to fill in the glaring holes and gaps that the ACT left in the visual art categories.

These last two weeks I’ve attended art exhibitions with plans to write reviews. I’ve stood in at least 4 different galleries and it all seemed so pointless. Right now, art seems so irrelevant and gratuitous. ArtBasel seems so disgusting to me right now.
