some of our pokemon verse hypno lore:
they have really human-like voices, and almost sound like they're speaking human language, using the same kind of rhythm and sounds as whatever language humans near them speak, but it doesn't actually mean anything to people. the tone and cadence is like a hypnotist, but there's different variations, like ones that sound more firm and confident and loud like a stage hypnotist, and others that are more low and steady, or soft and gentle.
sometimes hypno in different regions have different objects they hold up, depending on what they can find and what people nearby associate with hypnosis. so they might have a pocket watch or a crystal pendant or something like that. there are even hypno who don't hold up anything and just use hand movements similar to drowzee.
they like going after people and prefer the taste of people's dreams (or maybe they're just more filling or energizing?), but they can give more specific suggestions to other pokemon and hypnotize them more effectively, because other pokemon can understand what they're saying, and people can't. most of them don't really bother doing anything complicated though, because inducing drowsiness and sleep is all it takes for them to eat. the dreams they eat don't have to be like actual dreams, they can be dreamy feelings and daydreams and that kind of thing, too. but actual dreams are probably more substantial, especially really vivid ones.
their psychic power can sometimes make the hypnosis more effective, but it depends on how they use it and who the subject is, just like with any other tool or technique. most of the effect really is just suggestion. they have a lot more success with people who have been hypnotized before and who want to be hypnotized. a lot of supposed incidents of hypno taking people away are really situations where the person chose to follow the hypno themself.
hypno are actually usually pretty docile when they're caught, and ones who are close with their trainers might go into a bit of a trance while being given commands.
