This will be my very first trip to Mexico City!  I cannot wait to see everyone and enjoy the heck out of that place.

This exhibition will be a bit more of a retrospective with various selections of prints from sold out runs and paintings from past shows and projects.  However, I will be creating some new work for the show inspired by Mexico City itself and the culture there.  (Some portions of those are pictured below)

Allison Sommers’ “What Passing Bells” at Last Rites Gallery.

Currently on display at Last Rites Gallery in New York City, New York is “What Passing Bells” a brand new solo show by artist Allison Sommers.  The title of the show refers to a poem by Wilfred Owen, as the artist further explains: “‘What Passing Bells’ has been a jumping-off point for many of my works.  The source material I’ve been taking inspiration from, however, should be looked at more like a general companion or a mood scaffolding rather than as a direct conceptual influence.”  The show features a multitude of new paintings and drawings by Allison.

In the beginning…

belief and rituals shaped the first gods from the dreams of man.

As the civilizations of man grew, so did the strength and influence of their deities. 

In return for sacrifice, the gods gifted their followers with mystic might.

But the people wanted more than these gifts could provide.

In their souls the people found their own power. They called it “Craft.”

The gods, jealous and afraid,

struck down the firsts of these Craftsmen.

Thus the God Wars began.

But the gods were formed from the faith of man. It was a war they could not win.
