Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.

It's not the first time that this production stirs up a hornet's nest in Sicily. In Lipari, divers are reportedly already working on cleaning the sea. Here is what we know.

In recent weeks, some macabre discoveries made in the waters off Linosa, near the village of Pietra del Bagno, have caused quite a stir.
A number of fake skeletons and various props have been found on the seabed around the island. These are from the production of the film The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan, the Oscar-winning director of Oppenheimer, a film dedicated to the tragic figure of the man in charge of the Manhattan Project.
The skeletons, in particular, have caused worry among divers and swimmers who didn't know that some of the scenes of the movie had been shot on the island.
It's not the first time that the production of this movie stirs up a hornet's nest in Sicily. This past spring, some environmentalists accused the Wildside production of ruining some parts of Egadi, the other Sicilian archipelago in which some of the scenes are set. To ascertain whether any damage has occurred and, if so, the extent of it in these archipelagos, Giusi Savarino, the Councillor for Land and the Environment, decided a few days ago to carry out further inspections, in collaboration with ARPA Sicilia and on the basis of reports already submitted by the Port Capitancy, which had previously highlighted the failure to remove certain props from the seabed around these islands.
To make it worse, Egadi and Aeolian Islands are part of some of the country’s most important marine protected areas and are amongst the archipelagos with the greatest tourist appeal in our country. “Along with the authorisation to shoot the film in our region,” explained Councillor Savarino in a statement, “we had also provided precise rules and guidelines to protect the environment of the areas involved in the filming. The discoveries of the last few days are a cause for serious concern and, for this reason, together with ARPA, we will take action to assess the potential impact of these materials on the habitat and marine species in this area of significant natural value.”
We are delighted to host international film projects and are always willing to support these productions, but no one should think they can take advantage of our generosity by showing a lack of respect for the beauty of our environment."
There has been no response yet from Christopher Nolan, but it is a known fact that the director's intention was to film in Sicily to make his ‘Odyssey’ as faithful as possible to the literary work.
Nolan had been planning to shoot this film in the Mediterranean for years and waited until he had obtained all the necessary permits to film at the various locations, which – in addition to Sicily – included Tunisia and some mountainous regions of Greece.
Furthermore, it is not the director himself who is under fire, but once again the film production company Wildside, which collaborated with him during shooting in the Aeolian Islands in May.
In Lipari, however, a team of divers is reportedly already working to clean up the seabed, precisely to defuse the controversy.

So far I haven't found any in English, only one in Dutch and a few in Italian but even in Italian news there isn't much, they aren't mentioning it on tv or anything (and I don't expect them to mention it when they are going to promote the movie on the national news). It's mostly on some local newspapers.
Alright I'll bite. About The Falklands, that post where you said you don't accept the 2013 referendum where I think something like 99.8% of people voted to stay a British Overseas Territory because it's predominantly people of British heritage living there.
Why do you think the islands belong to Argentina then? (yes I know the historical claim and... proximity?) but if the actual people overwhelmingly don't want to be ruled by you...what is the actual plan? I personally believe in the right to self determination, and that the actual citizens of a region should be allowed to decide who governs them but I'm interested in hearing your viewpoint.
Because say we play hypotheticals and Argentina does get control of the Falklands (something that could only be born out of another war because idk if you keep up with British news but generally the Falklands are the only "popular" war post WWII that people still think was "worth it" and morally correct.) Then what? Because mind the islands have been British for roundabout 200 years, it IS a generational homeland for a lot of people. Are those people deported to the UK? Are they forced to either take Argentinian citizenship or leave, can they keep their British citizenship and stay, if so do they have the same rights as Argentinians?
Then comes the matters of governance....if you allow the people to stay, historically speaking - governing a group of people who identify with a different nationality whose region you essentially invaded and conquered is...difficult to say the least. Do you force them to completely erase their systems? Change their currency, their healthcare and education, their laws and language? That would be presumably wildly unpopular. Idk every time it comes up it feels like more trouble than its worth and huge drain on resources (ironically the reason Britain gave up most of it's empire, it cost them more to keep fighting for control of the areas than if they just retreated.)
I am sorry if this comes off as antagonistic, I truly don't mean it to, and I'm not trying to change your mind I just want to know what your opinions on the topic are. I've noticed that a lot of Argentinian football fans are quick to talk about a football win as revenge (which I personally think is a disservice to everyone who died in the literal war but oh well)

i care very little about the opinions of the british on the war and i also believe very few wars are correct or moral. To me the only thing the war did for the british, aside from keeping the islands, was serve as the re election platform for Thatcher
i also dont care if its been an ancestral home for 200 years, i care that the islands are on a very strategic place where they can stract oil, fish and also get a possible claim to the south pole. Both the fishing and the oil extraction is done on argentina's continental platform by the way, but the claim to malvina's lets them get away with it
if it came to malvinas being actually handed over to us, the people currently living there would have access to an argentinian citizenship and all the rights that come with. Unlike Europe, we are not zealous over who can be argentinan.

its not my place to say how governance would follow, im just a guy with a tumblr blog, but i think its very easy to say it would be such a drag when your country is the one that would end up keeping the islands if we do nothing about it
While I understand kind of where you are coming from, I also need you to understand that our biggest issue with Malvinas is the fact a foreign country is able to extract so much wealth from us. These are the consequences of colonialism, Ive been aware of them from such a young age, I see it every day. I cannot escape it. Oh! forgot to mention the MILITARY BASE just a few miles from our country, not a security concern at all.
Laslty, sorry if this comes as agressive but i really don't like your last point about football as revenge and how YOU think its a disservice to the people that died in the war. We know the hand of god didnt bring back to life anyone, we know that materially nothing changed.
But it did mean something very important to us. For once we felt like some sort of justice was done, even if it was inside a football pitch. The world caters to the global north so sometimes all we have are this emotional victories.
