Rambunctious laughter quickly filled the room, joyful conversations easily spilling out of peopleโs mouths. You took another swig of whiskey, draining the bottle of its last few dregs. It burned your tongue slightly, a sensation which used to make you recoil as a young girl, but after growing up around the Shelbyโs it had become something you had grown accustomed too. ย The amber liquid entranced you, turning down the volume of your thoughts. Your head ached slightly with ideas that had been formed within your intoxicated mind, one person constantly overwhelming the forefront of your imagination. That person was currently sat down beside you, his thigh cruelly pressing against yours.ย
Tommy Shelby was completely oblivious to the effect he had upon you, unaware of the fire that ignited in your stomach at the sensation of his thigh pressing against yours. He arched his head back slightly, laughter roaring from his mouth. Your eyes trailed lazily over his jawline, sharp as the blade he kept within his hat, before they met with his own. You saw your face mirrored in his ice blue orbs, your own startled expression echoing back to you.ย
โAm I right or whaโ Tommy?โ Arthur bellowed; laughter thick in between each syllable. Tommy turned away from you, the private moment between you both shattering as carelessly as a smashed window. You could almost feel the imaginary brick landing upon your lap, struggling to ignore the way your heart sank. You could only wish for a few moments alone with Tommy, to question his intentions behind his surprising gift. You glanced down at your lap, your fingers anxiously smoothing over the folds of your dress.
โIโm sorry Arthur. I didnโt quite catch youโ Tommy stated, the smirk audible in his tone. You could hear the familiar flick of a lighter, knowing that Tommy had a cigarette pressed in between his lips. You never thought that you would have felt such a strong surge of jealousy over an inanimate object. You ached to replace the smoke that danced amongst his pale pink lips.ย
โI said, about time you found yourself a woman. Keep yaโ company during these cold, winter nights. Keep yaโ bed warmโ Arthur sniggered, barely able to contain his mischievous laughter.ย
The words that fell so easily from between Arthursโ lips, conjured up unwanted images within your mind. The thought of Tommy being with another woman encouraged waves of nausea to collide against the walls of your stomach, each wave stronger than its predecessor. You lifted your glass to your lips, ignoring the way your hand shook ever so slightly. It didnโt take long for you to drain the vessel of its last drops of golden liquid, in a fruitless attempt to suppress the feelings you so desperately tried to hide.ย

ou glanced sideways at his words, your eyes meeting for a brief moment. A thousand unspoken words laid heavy and unsettled in the air between you both, reflected only in a private glint within his cold blue eyes.

Tommyโs head felt heavy. He wasnโt sure if it was the whiskey Arthur insisted he continued to drink throughout the evening, or the increasing amount of space you had occupied within his thoughts. The way his stomach had flipped, and his crotch twitched at the sight of you in that emerald green dress, suggested it was the latter.
โBesides, Iโm waiting for a woman worth my timeโ.Tommy glanced at you, swallowing softly at his reflection mirrored within your (Y/C/E) eyes. His mind invoked a million wicked images of you, thoughts that he could only ever dream of in the darkest hours of the night. He tore his eyes away from you, in fear that you could somehow hear what was so loudly echoing within his mind.ย
โYou ainโt ever gonna find a woman worth yaโ time, if yaโ donโt start bloody lookinโโ John laughed, his chair creaking as he leant back. Tommy smirked at his brothers words, an automatic response.ย

โRight, best if I leave yaโ. Got Linda waiting for me back at the Gaffโ Arthur announced, standing up slowly with a grunt. Tommy watched as his elder brother made his way to the entrance of the room, hesitating for a brief moment. โIf she is the one Tommyโฆlet her know before itโs too lateโ.
Tommy glanced down towards your sleeping form. Your head was resting lightly against his shoulder with your legs curled up beside you, the hem of your dress settling in the middle of your upper thighs. He swallowed softly, ignoring the way his temperature sored at the sight of your exposed skin. ย
The door closed softly behind Arthur, clicking gently into place. Tommy felt you shift slightly in your seat, the wooden furniture complaining at the sudden imbalance of weight. He sighed quietly, watching as your eyelids flickered open. โHello there sleepy headโ Tommy whispered quietly; his tone unusually soft and gentle. You had that affect upon him, and he secretly relished in it.ย
You grunted in response, slowly sitting up in your seat. He watched a rose-coloured flush taint your cheeks, your hands hurriedly pulling at the hem of your dress.He watched as a panicked expression settled upon your beautiful features, and he couldnโt help but pay attention to his heart sinking into the pit of his stomach.ย

โLooks like weโre the last ones standinโ. Knew them lot couldnโt handle itโ Tommy rushed the words out of his mouth, in a desperate attempt to comfort you. He slowly reached his hand out to you, chewing on the inside of his cheek as you hurriedly stood up.ย
โI bestโฆI best be home nowโ you mumbled, reaching to snatch your bag from the seat beside him.ย
The contents spilled out onto the floor in front of you both- tubes of crimson red lipstick rolling across the wooden floorboards. Tommyโs eyes caught an item, which had fallen just in front of him. He leaned down to pick it up, his heartbeat increasing as he recognised what he held within his hands.ย

โHello there sleepy headโ. You grunted softly, the words taking a moment to settle within your mind. Your heart stopped as you recognised the voice.
You sat up quicker than you would have liked, the room spinning slightly as you adjusted to the change in position. Your eyes focused upon your almost bare thighs, heat rising upon your cheeks as your fingers fumbled at the fabric, pulling the hem back down.ย

โYou got it then?โ Tommy asked. You heard him stand up, the floorboards screaming in protest. You turned to face him, your heart pounding against your ribs as you noticed what he held within his hands.The book.You nodded softly, your eyes meeting his. ย

Your eyes never left Tommy, watching as he placed the book down upon the table and made his way closer towards you.
โThis is whyโ he responded, his fingers reaching forward to slowly cup your cheeks. He paused for a moment, his eyes searching yours before he closed the gap between you both.If it was possible for time to stand still, then you wished that it would in that moment. The world fell away at the feeling of Tommy Shelbyโs lips pressed up against yours, sweet and comforting in a way that you never knew was possible. His lips where warm, his breath a mixture of mint and tobacco. Fire ignited through your brain, as your lips danced slowly together.You didnโt know who pulled away first, your breath heavy as you rested his forehead against his. Every question you ever wanted to ask, lay silently answered in the small space between you.
