Lolirock Prompts
Calix! Any headcanons about Carissa's home country? Who is her family? What are they doing? What kind of fashion do they wear?
Oh, I’ve been WAITING for this.
The Kingdom of Calix is located in the far north of Ephedia, which is almost perpetually cold and filled with dangerous creatures all around. Because of the kingdom’s inherent danger, many of its inhabitants have adopted social Darwinism as a core principle of their kingdom, and believe that it is the strongest who will survive in their kingdom. Calix’s proximity and perseverance, combined with their aforementioned “survival of the fittest”-style attitude, led to them having an incredibly pronounced and proud warrior culture. Carissa is no different in this regard, which means that it took her a fair bit to trust Lyna due to the potential culture clash between them.
Even their love lives are not based in the traditional gender roles (male-female relationships), but instead in the pair’s worth as warriors. If one of the pair is able to prove themselves in battle, then they are considered potential mates no matter the gender. As an example, Princess Carissa herself, by her own admission, is a lesbian who has a thing for strong females who have proven themselves in combat against her. In her own words, “I like a woman who can kick my ass”.
Returning to the discussion about Calix’s warrior culture, however, Calix also has a reputation for having one of the fiercest cavalries in Ephedia, akin to the Dothraki from the “A Song of Ice and Fire” books. Riders form a bond with their horses at a young age, so that they may treat their steeds as though they are an extension of themselves, to the point where some experienced Calixian riders often ride bareback. The riders and whatever companions they have are responsible for caring for their horses, as they believe it is their duty to protect their equine comrades and prove themselves to their fellow cavaliers.
In fact, Carissa’s own mother, Queen Bellona, was implied to have spearheaded this cavalry program herself, based on her own bond with her mare Otrera. Carissa has even been gifted with Otrera’s own filly to take care of when she was younger, which she named Hippolyta, and still owns to this day.
